The Club At Westminster
Played On 11/04/2019The Gem in Lehigh
This course provides as much of a challenge as you want. Well designed and a challenge for any level and the maintenance has improved even since last year. A fair price with a very good practice area AND a surprise of a complimentary drink in their bar after the round for each of us. We stayed for two as it is a very nice atmosphere. Great staff all around!
King's Forest Golf Course
Played On 05/31/2019Soggy...like everywhere this spring
Still one of the best Municipal courses around...tough at any time but with very long rough and wet conditions, even tougher.
Nit much can be done about that with the cool rainy weather this spring but I was surprised that carts were being driven everywhere...still conditions were mostly very good. Very busy day but round was relatively quick, just over 4 hours
Whirlpool Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2018One of the best!
Always a pleasure to play Whirlpool! One of the most enjoyable rounds whenever I’ve played there. It would have been 5 stars all around with the only complaint being the bunkers, some were fine others very little sand. Inconsistency is always a problem especially if you find yourself in a few. Otherwise the course conditions were superb, greens were absolutely excellent!, fairways and tees were great. I like that they have removed a lot of the fescue as trees have matured. It creates problems for off line shots without slowing down play looking in the long grass!
MontHill Golf and Country Club - Blue/Gold Course
Played On 05/23/2018Construction Site Golfing
I’m not sure why GolfNow doesn’t have alerts for this course. The construction of a massive new clubhouse turns two holes from par 4’s to par 3’s. Another hole is entirely closed on one of the nines. Our foursome headed out and we’re told to play two nines (blue and gold) and after 9 we were directed to play the red nine?
Anyway just be wary going out here for the foreseeable future. Not very impressed with the golf course mainete ance either....long weeds growing in unkept bunkers. On the red ninth hole there was 4inch rough growing right next to the green....all this while a multimillion dollar clubhouse is going on seems very odd.... not sure I’ll return here
Aileron Golf Club
Played On 12/04/2017Nice course in the Port Charlotte area
With prices in the Naples area a little ‘inflated’ for what you get, we took the 45 minute drive up 75 to visit Kingsway. Some of the pictures online were flattering toward what we actually saw but it really is a nice layout with excellent greens...smooth and fast! Staff were friendly and met us at the car as the lot was crowded..nice touch! Always like courses in Florida that provide lots of nice cold ice water...Kingsway provided that. Nice, generous landing areas, unlike many Florida courses, so no need to get nervous on slightly wayward drives. It’s one of those course that you’ll want to play again as there are some hidden issues that you don’t notice from the tee ...to reconsider club selection from the tee.
Flamborough Hills Golf and Country Club - Hills/Woods
Played On 10/25/2017Nice late season round until...
Maybe it’s people that just don’t care about courtesy or any sense of etiquette buts it’s disappointing to come to the 10th Tee and have a group starting their round on that hole while we wait for them, just because they felt like it. Unfortunately the people in the Pro Shop didn’t care either. Maybe they’re members with that type of attitude...but regardless, not a good impression for any golf course
Didn't expect too much after Irma but they've done a great job!
While many courses remain closed Copperhead was available - the staff have done a great job getting it playable. Only a few issues on some greens but overall tees, fairways and greens were in great shape. Staff, as usual, always very friendly.
Great value on this excellently designed course!
King's Forest Golf Course
Played On 05/30/2017A top Municipal course - does need some work
This is one of the best layouts for a Municipally owned course you will find. It's a tough, hilly course and with the wind and somewhat wet conditions we had, it made for a tough day. Though we had carts booked when we arrived we discovered it was too wet to take them out. The course did call (home#) but we were already enroute to the course and weren't prepared for a walking round.
We were surprised to find the greens as slow and as inconsistent as they were and some not in the greatest of conditions. Tees were good for the most part but some need work - often had to find a level place to hit from.
No complaints about the value though, this is a course to play in Hamilton if you have never played it! Highlight hole for me is #11, elevated tee, a great driving hole with a nice view.
The Club At Westminster
Played On 05/18/2017Very good course in Lehigh Acres
I've played a few of the courses in Lehigh and generally you get an OK course for a low price compared to other areas...The drought conditions the last few months have been hard on a lot of those courses.. Westminster is in a gated community, very nice atmosphere and the course was very enjoyable. Nice layout and generous (green) fairways for landing your good and not so good drives! Greens were pretty slow, but in otherwise good condition. Lots of water for these hot days but surprised cups were empty at a few of the coolers . Maybe bring a bottle to refill. I'll look forward to playing this course again.
Panther Run Golf Club
Played On 03/20/2017Well worth the drive!
If this course was in the Naples area you could not touch it for under $150 a round. At the tips it's 7530 yds., but lots of tee boxes for any level. Wide fairways, lots of water and no houses in range off the tee...unlike most Florida courses. Despite the dry weather SW Florida has experienced this spring, tees, greens and fairways are in excellent shape. Greens were fast but in great shape and consistent. We teed off at 3:30 with two very nice ladies and completed our round with a brilliant sunset behind us. Very enjoyable afternoon on a beautiful course in Ave Maria.
Valencia Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/09/2016Not your typical Florida course
If you have come to expect tight, house/condo lined fairways, Valencia is a welcome change from that! Get ready for forest lined fairways, especially on the back nine. While the front nine does have holes with residences nearby they are smartly planned and don't really interfere or concern you much on the tee. Played on a hot afternoon (should I expect anything different in SWFLA this time of year?) but the great Golfnow deal and the abundance of ice cold water stops made up for it. Course was in excellent condition and is a challenge at any level. Blues play 6600 yds and Greens are 7145. Often played from the greens only because they provided some really picturesque tee offs.. The large, fast greens can be real tough if your approach is not good. Staff couldn't have been friendlier - very enjoyable, 3 hr round!
Twenty Valley Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/20/2015Nice course but greens are a mess, left restaurant - no service
This is an enjoyable course with many nice holes. This is not the time to play it however. We all understand greens must be aerated and it is the responsibility of Golfnow to ensure its customers are properly informed of this when we book. We were not and this is the second time this season it's happened! I have never seen so much sand on greens after aerating which had the putts very slow and bouncing - approach shots 'splashing in the sand.
After our round the foursome went in to the restaurant (entirely empty, and were told after waiting 5 minutes that they would be right with us. Waited another 10 minutes and left. Two servers were apparently not interested.
Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course
Played On 09/02/2015Worth a short trip across the border
This is a very nice course on lots of land (no jamming holes together) and for the most part very well laid out with one bizarre exception. Fairways and greens are generous in size although errant tee shots are punished as a result of other fairways not being laid out tightly together. Although the greens were large and putts rolled beautifully, the back nine especially were very undulating and require accurate approaches. Many are very tight to water edges and marsh edges, especially the tough 17th. Shots short of the green are most often punished severely...ie lost balls.
It would almost seem however that the designer thought out 17 very nice holes. The 18th hole is perhaps the worst finishing hole I have seen on any course of this caliber. A run of the mill par 3 over water to a shared green!!?? (9th hole) left a bad last impression on this otherwise quality golf course.
Greens at Renton - Blue Nine
Played On 08/18/2015A GEM that is worth the drive!
Did not know too much about this course prior to deciding to make the drive down towards Simcoe. It is always a treat to feel welcomed and both the pro shop staff and the starter did exactly that. From the blue tees the course is 6225 yds and has some very nicely laid out and attractive holes. The rolling terrain and the forest mixed into the red and blue nines we played made for some enjoyable golf. Lots of hills so it's a good workout if your walking. I look forward to playing this course for the second time and more!
Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters
Played On 08/11/2015Very good, only with a good deal
I had never considered playing Lionhead simply due to the overinflated rates. We found a great deal for an early morning round (Masters course) and decided to give it a try. Staff couldn't have been nicer and the conditions of the course are very good, though cart path only after some rain the previous day was a bit surprising. Greens were very nice but maybe it's the typical clientele here...seems most can't be bothered to repair ball marks.
This course is typical of other Kaneff courses with several cramped tees next to greens - I expected better at their flagship course. Numerous crossover points could be confusing but signage is helpful.
We did find that the yardage is very far off on many tees - especially the numerous dog legs. My GPS is very accurate for distance points and does not straighten out the dog leg, yet some holes were off by 40 or 50 yds. Why?? Padding the length of this relatively short course?
Would definitely play again ( at the right price) but not at their usual rates.
Legends on the Niagara Golf Course - Battlefield
Played On 07/16/2015Excellent conditions, challenging but fair - must play in the Niagara area
Well worth the drive to Niagara and we were lucky enough to play his beautiful course on a gorgeous day, with a great price. Have not played Battlefield in a few years but it has matured very nicely and is in impeccable shape as per usual for the Niagara Parks!
One hint, the bunkers, and there's lots of them, are a little different sand but very consistent throughout the course. Greens rolled very nicely!
Thank you very much for the feedback and we hope you'll come down this way again soon to enjoy our courses.
Lowville Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2015Great deal and Conditions, saw my first Ace!
Played this course countless times since my early days of golfing (late 70's) and it has only seen improvement since those days. Haven't walked it in a long time and we knew we were in for a tough haul on a hot day. My playing partner (brother) eagled #12 and followed that up with his first hole in one on #13!! A 9 iron from 154 yds.!! We were talking before that about him having his worst score ever (137) way back when and now it is very memorable for another reason!! Amazing views from the escarpment with lots of elevation changes....but it would be nice to have some water available for the walkers!
Tyandaga Golf Course
Played On 06/30/2015Tee shots here - longer is not always better
Have played this course numerous times and more often than not I will question why I chose a driver off a tee vs. a hybrid or iron. The valley hole, #17 is a perfect example. A shorter, controlled shot off the tee removes lots of trouble on a very tight fairway. On #1, a par 5, even a good drive may give you a downhill or blind second while a shorter tee shot keeps you on the upper flat area (less trouble) and a good, albeit longer look at your next shot.
Don't be fooled by the yardage, this is a fun but challenging course. One note - we played the blue tees and they are in desperate need of levelling - many are mounded in the middle or even slanted, other than that conditions were very good
Very Nice but some things....
Nice resort feel, complimentary bag of range balls to start. Staff including, pro shop, starters and marshals were all great. Greens are very slow so be prepared to give it a good knock. If you're not a big fan of Condo lined fairways, you will like this layout..
The concerns: Not a fan of the hard packed/gravelly waste areas that take the place of bunkers on this course (not one sand bunker on the course). If you value your clubs, don't hit the ball from these! Balls that land in or roll into these are gone, which also affects the pace of play. Secondly, the fairways tend to crown or either slope towards watery areas which may make for good drainage but will often result in decent shots bounding their way to the waste areas. One of our playing partners hit what we all considered a perfect tee shot - it was lost as it took a hard bounce left and ran into and through the cart path/waste areas.
Colonial Country Club
Played On 02/17/2015Very nice course, excellent for varying skill levels
Played a late afternoon time to just squeeze in 9 holes and was very surprised at the quality of the course given some of the recent courses played in the area for higher fees. If you hit it 250 plus, play the blues as the whites can leave you hitting less than driver off many tees. Conversely an elderly couple played in front of us and easily enjoyed the course from forward tees. Pace was slow but only because EVERY golf course here at this time of the year is busy. Very well maintained high quality course. Note that the driving range closes at 4 at least at this time of year.
Great review, thank you very much. We'll be sure to pass on your bunker comments to our Turf Department for consideration.
