Leatherhead Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2023Bad condition.
Really poor condition. Never worth the increased price, even with the hot deal. I’ll not play this course again.
Dudsbury Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2021Should be in better condition
It’s a nice course. But very tired in places. The condition was just about passable, but way below expected for August. Grass clippings everywhere and many bunkers GUR.
I don’t mind that courses have weeks of maintenance time but they should tell you so when you book. In its current condition it is not a fifty quid course.
The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club - Kings Course
Played On 05/31/2021No fairways
Most courses can manage a decent bit of grass at this time of year. Not the Warwickshire though. The rough and what should be a fairway are just the same. It’s impossible to tell where the edge is.
Premium prices for very sub-premium course conditions. Add to this the price hikes at weekends and bank holidays, and the obligatory 5-hour round, and you wonder why anyone plays there.
Heythrop Park Resort
Played On 10/30/2020Should not be open
Why is this course not closed. It’s nothing more than a bog. Unless you’re very steady footed I would give this a swerve as you’ll not be able to make it round. No drainage whatsoever. It has the potential to be a nice course but not unless it employs some decent management.
If you book through golf now you’ll not get the actual time you booked. And the reception staff will come out with whatever excuse they can think up for poor management. They might squeeze you in in an hour or so and it’ll be dark by the time you reach the 13th.
Oh and off-course amenities? Shut. Mid afternoon on a Friday.
Stonebridge Golf Club - Hampton Course
Played On 08/11/2020Concrete
Not one bit of irrigation on the fairways or tee boxes. You may as well be playing in the carpark. The layout is all over the place and some of the walks between holes are the length of 2-3 holes. Greens are ok, but that is the only positive. Even the driving range is pretty poxy. Can't see how far you're hitting it because it's just into a lake. It's a long while since I've played course this neglected.
Lutterworth Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2020Not a great layout
The greens and tee boxes are way too close. At least 2-3 times a round you'll nearly be hit by a ball, that to be fair is not that far off line. Some of the fairways are a bit strange - a bit like a farmer's field with large ruts across it. I can't see any reason at all for this.
However it's maintained quite well and at least has been watered during the hot weather.
The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club - Kings Course
Played On 08/08/2020Nice course, well maintained.
Some courses have managed to maintain things well during lockdown, and this is definitely one of them. Two course, equally as good as each other but quite different. Decent clubhouse and friendly staff.
But.... please open up tee times for single players - and not charge the same as two balls. Even if its later in the day when it's quiet.
Magnolia Park Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/25/2020Terrible condition
This is not just from temporary closure. It’s from months, if not years of neglect. Every single one of the bunkers would be GUR at any other course. I have never seen bunkers this bad. The tee boxes are pretty much non-existent. I have seen tidier rugby pitches. The greens are just about ok.
It’s a shame because this could be a nice course if it had proper greenkeepers. But in its current condition it’s not even worth a tenner to play.
Forest of Arden Country Club - Aylesford Course
Played On 09/01/2020Good for a quick game
Nice course but obviously not as nice as The Arden. It’s appropriately priced and well worth the £20 current fee. 3 hours on my own even after being stuck behind a 3-ball for a few holes. Some holes are wide open and some are very tight. It’s quite close to the M6 in places so quite a bit of noise.
Overall a decent course and would go again.

Played On 08/22/20205 hour round
The most backed-up course I have ever played. Sometimes 4-5 groups on one hole. Couldn’t even finish before it got dark. The course is nice but what’s the point? Taking a shot every ten minutes is just a joke.
Compete waste of money.
Oxford Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2019Dreadful condition
For the rate the condition was unacceptable. Aside from the two holes being dressed which In reality makes these holes unplayable, the rest of the course was in poor condition. There was no real difference between the rough and the fairways. Parts of the course really need some money spent on them. Pathways like building sites. Old, tired tee boxes.
And then there’s the layout. I have never seen so many tee boxes in close proximity to greens. You will never hear so many shouts of fore anywhere. It’s no wonder the course is backed up with people waiting on every hole.
Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe, Spa & Golf Club
Played On 09/30/2019Could be good if managed properly
£35 for a buggy is just a joke. It’s quite a hilly course and this is just the club taking advantage. And I wouldn’t bother anyway. It’s one of these courses that tries to control the buggy’s path, badly. ‘Follow this side of the fairway’ which it only tells you halfway down the fairway and then just stops refuses to cross it. Just back it up for 100m to find one of the few paths.
It’s no wonder the course is so backed up with everybody getting frustrated with the stupid buggies.
And do you like uneven tee boxes? Then this is the place for you. Such a cheap thing to fix but they can’t be bothered. The greens are very slow and should be in better condition this time of year.
The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club - Earls Course
Played On 09/19/2019Expensive buggies
£30 for a buggy is just too much. It’s 20-25 at most courses. The course is nice and well kept. Lots of slow play as other have highlighted. And that was midweek so I can only imagine what it’s like at the weekend.
Temple Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2019Old fashioned
It’s quite an old fashioned setup which no doubt the members like. The course is good all year round. Apart from the bunkers which thankfully they are slowly replacing one by one. They seems to spend about 3 months building a lovely hut at halfway - but it’s only a toilet. What a waste of an opportunity to put in a much needed halfway house.
Windmill Village Hotel, Golf & Leisure Club
Played On 10/17/2019Short
At 4500 yards you can’t really call it a proper golf course. Most of the par 4 holes are 200 and something yards and there is no need for any of the longer clubs really. The 3 par-3 start only really serves to back the course up nicely.
Some areas of the course are nice and they do a decent job of maintaining it. However other areas in contrast really need some money spent on.
The Springs Hotel & Golf Club
Played On 05/07/2017Not bad
Not bad, but also not great. Mainly due to the club going through a purchase. Could be a good club if and when some money is spent on it. The course needs some work. The course was very dry and I didn't spot any sprinklers.
The tees are quite close to other green so you need to keep an eye out.
The clubhouse is very tired and in desperate need of some painting.
Having said that it was enjoyable enough and would consider coming back, maybe in a couple of years.
Hampton Court Palace Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2017Dreadful
One of the worst courses I've ever played. Bad greens, scabby fairways. Pace of play is a joke. Nearly 6 hours for a round. It's not exactly as if it's a nice course worth the wait. It's basic and not very well looked after.
Of course, that's why it's in golfshake's top 100 courses to visit for 2020, which is based on reviews left by golfers. Way in front of other courses in the area in terms of condition, whenever I've played it the greens are rapid.
Still, if you like 400 yard boring straight par 4's (driver, 3 wood) and flat, easy greens the windmill isn't for you. If you do like a challenge, it is.
What a stupid review -
I take it you shot a low score?
