San Marcos is always in great condition and I rarely pass on the opportunity. My only problem is they don’t have a real range, only limited flight balls. This is extra frustrating as there are many long par 4s on the front and if your like me, wish I had hit driver a few times before the round. Otherwise, great track.

Great conditions, greens roll true but unique grass, takes some getting used to. Tees and greens in wonderful shape, seeded rough can add some difficulty, very well placed fw bunkers. What a great challenge and day.

Course is playing great. Greens much slower than practice green.

I hadn’t played The Duke in quite awhile but understand the monsoons took a toll. They are recovering nicely and we thoroughly enjoyed our round.

Where’s the fairway grass Ken? I hit 9 fairway but only on grass twice. 2nd wave of price increases yet course conditions getting worse? I’m confused. Greens were a bit spongy as well, speed not consistent between holes. Oh well, usually a really nice track.

Cons: no driving range, only foam balls and about 160 yds to work with. This means no warm up for driver, I call that ridiculous. Bunkers need love, for a course of this clout, should be sand in bunkers.
Pros: practice green comparable to course. Nice conditions and some real challenging holes. Note the 481 yd par 5 followed by the 471 yd par 4, so fun. Greens rolled very nice but very small.
I probably won’t play again, if I can’t warm up before my round . The first few holes could be a wash as it was yesterday. I had a good back 9 but the course should not be trying to compete with similar course prices if they don’t have standard things like a driving range.

Loved it as Maryvale and still love it. Good track, fairly flat and trees not too dense, really enjoy the course. Need to know where to be on the greens so approach shots important. Greens were fast, ball glides very nicely and never need to hit a putt.hard, that was enjoyable but above the hole, be ready for 7-10 coming back.

Ken McDonald is always in good shape and today was no different. With the monsoon last night the course played long from the tips but the greens held everything. Get an early tee tee else it’s slow play on his popular Tempe track.

Not much rough to the sides of these fairly wide fairways. Once off fairway, you’ll find a playable shots about 50% of the time. Double bogey lurks around every corner but good tee shots on many par 4s can get you into wedge territory. Greens are often thin, long and undulating, making approach shots as important as tee shots if not more. This goes on for 18 holes. Enjoy, I did this, time anyways :)

Greens just punched, already running at 9-10. Aguila and Phx courses always in great shape even through the hot summer but expect fast greens. Fairways in fantastic shape and the bunker rebuild turned out amazing. Only complaint is they charge $15 per person for cart. Even tho I have the Phx card I will continue to book Hot Deals to avoid that ridiculous cost. They truly believe everyone charges that much. If you pay notice, when the tee times get cheaper through the day it’s because they slowly trim the cost of the cart down to $10, still too much IMO.

There’s always crabby staff in the clubhouse. They treat you Like they are doing you a favor versus as a paying customer. Don’t you dare chip a ball somewhere you’re not supposed to, they will come out and tell you what you’re doing wrong. On the other hand, if you’re standing at the first tee, 20 minutes past your tee time, nothing but crickets. It was the first day after reopening from the over seed so I’ll give them some slack, but 40 minutes late to send me out is ridiculous. Top that off with the course not being anywhere near ready for play, the fairways were furry which is half OK, but the greens were unbelievably slow, the grass was nearly an inch high in some areas, you could tell they re-opened before they even mowed the first time or rolled the greens . And I’m supposed to pay $40 for that? I warmed up from my teatime a full hour too early and they never once told me that they were running behind until I asked And at that point they only said 20 minutes. The course was littered with garbage, me and my partner were picking up trash on every hole. There were three people in front of me at snack bar and it took 20 minutes to get to the counter, I’m pretty sure they were cooking the food for each person before they helped the next. Typically this is a decent course and the layout is somewhat challenging, but opening this soon, With a course not prepared, and ballooned prices, is pure greed. I’ve played quite a few rounds around there, I believe they know my face, and I was still treated like a stranger that was just in their way. I played Aguila the next day, same thing, they just reopened after over seed, and the course was immaculate. The greens rolled well only slightly slower which is to be expected and it was $10 cheaper ($30, walking). I was going to buy the Arcis card but now it’s obvious I should buy the Phoenix city card.

Kenny Mac is always in good shape, good driving range and practice facility. Expect an easy, flat layout and minimal trouble. There's a mixture of walkers and riders so round time is always in the 4.5 hour range.

Aguila 18, like all the Phoenix municipals, is always in decent to good shape. Aguila in particular is a nice challenge with many tight fairways and small greens. Fairway bunkers are in play on many holes. Only con is that the greens have not healed well from aeration on most holes. Also wish they had coolers on the carts.

Boy, the course layout sure is fantastic here in the Foothills. The scenery and design is 2nd to none and this course takes full advantage of it. Miss a fairway and you're sure to be on a slope of some sort and you don't have to miss by much which I really appreciated. Many of the greens are small and tucked away and from the tips you will be challenged...again, I applaud that. Now lets talk about the greens. If you're like me and tee to green you give yourself a chance to post a decent number, you're sure to be upset when you get to them. I'm not even sure if that was grass on the greens; so patchy, sandy, and sadly not coming even a little close to a real putting surface. Whether or not a well hit iron stays on the green at all is one challenge. Next, be prepared for putting through patchy, crispy grass? and sand. Talk about destroying a round! Needless to say I found an awesome deal on Golfnow.com that made this a decent value but let me tell you, there's no way I'm EVER paying the $55 dollars their website says is standard cost during this time of year. It actually makes me laugh out loud. I chose yes, I recommend this course but only if you're getting a great deal and have slim pickings. If they ever fix those greens I will be sure to play more often and write another review.

We've played this course quite a few times. The cost is always tough to beat and even though the summer conditions are fair I will vouch that the winter conditions are downright right fantastic, especially for the price. The course throws plenty of challenges at you to include undulating greens and some fairly long par 4s from the tips. You better miss on the right side on quite a few holes. On my last view I'm pretty sure I forgot to bring my brain because I forgot my golf clubs at home and they pushed my tee time up to allow time to get them without charging me extra. That's classy! To top that off, we didn't purchase the lunch special but they gave it to us anyhow and that brat was delicious! Many courses could learn from the management and cordiality of this staff. Stay classy Southern Ridge! Will be back...many, many more times.

Kokopelli is always in decent to great shape but is currently in decent shape I suppose in prep for summer. Fairways are tight and it is above average difficulty. Had a blast, no complaints.

I originally booked at the Duke but the monsoon from earlier in the week played a toll on the course. It was communicated promptly to us via email that there was damage and only half the course was playable. Stephen Reish, the Head Golf Professional at the Duke took my correspondence and was patient with me while I cried and moaned about the scenario. I asked him if we could have our tee time moved to Club West down the road and he made it happen within minutes. We got basically the same tee time at the same rate and we couldn't be happier. Club West was in fantastic shape for having just endured the monsoon. It was a perfect mix of challenging and rewarding. Curtis at the front desk and the rest of the staff were fantastic and the beer was 2 for $6. How can you beat that? Thank you Stephen and the Ahwatukee courses management and staff for going out of your way to make sure I had an awesome golf weekend.

I've played Encanto 18 quite a few times and it's always average to good. This weekend, 7/13/14, I have to say it was better than good, it was excellent. The fairways were impressive and the greens more-so. If you miss the fairway you have a to club up because the rough is impressive but not daunting. I recommend this course to anyone; awesome muni!

The course is in fantastic shape. The fairways are perfect and if you miss them, you have to deal with a few inches of rough; not too bad but a definite penalty for missing the fairway. The greens are running exceptionally, the bunker nice and soft. I'm very proud of this Phoenix city course and will be playing their as much as I can.

I play here when I don't have time to play a longer course. I had a 7:15am tee time and played with one other. We finished at about 10:30a. but were almost the first out. The course is by no means pristine, however, it's quite a challenging par 60 with all the water and a cheap weekday tee time. I recommend this course for all high handicappers.
