Oak Grove Golf Course
Played On 11/23/2018Good course layoput but terribly maintained.
Let me start this review by saying that I play this course multiple timers a year. The course conditions continue to deteriorate each year. The course layout is magnificent. No two holes are alike and It forces you to use almost every club in your bag. But that's where the good vibes end. The greens are a mess. There was unfilled aeration holes in many of the greens (leftover from the fall aeration) in the spring that did not fill in until June. They are soft and full of ball marks. On the positive side the greens are spacious. The sand traps are literally rock hard with many stones and rocks in the sand. Customer service is a crap shoot. Typically there is one person running the pro shop and the bar. It wasn't that long ago that his was a destination golf course that was well maintained and had the some of the best greens of any course I played. It is a shame to see what this course has become.
Boone Creek Golf Club - Creekside Course
Played On 10/27/2018Flat
Nice course but flat with very little movement in the greens. Easy to score well. Areas between fareway's are full of thistles and very high weeds. Answer to that of course is to stay in the fareway., However instead of adding to the charm of the course these areas make the course look cheap and somewhat unkept. A better way to make the course a bit more fun (and challenging) would be to add a few bunkers around the front of the greens. Kudo's to the greens keeper as the greens roll true. The course has three-9 hole courses with regular rotation to make for variety of 18 hole experiences. The staff is very friendly. I would have given the course a 4 star rating if the approach to the greens forced me to be a bit more strategic in my shot selection. You can basically shoot for the front of the green and let the ball roll up on virtually every hole.

The course layout is good. Challenging par 3's and strategically positioned bunkers highlight this beautiful nature setting. The unfortunate thing about this course (and clubhouse) is that it's not very well maintained. The traps are terrible (variety of hard packed sand and lots of rocks) with rakes either hard to find or broken. There are weeds growing in the fairways and traps, and the greens look and feel like they have not been plugged and dressed in a very long time. The clubhouse and staffing is in similar condition as the course. The deck overlooking the 18th green is full of slivers. The walkway to the clubhouse/pro shop is old weathered wood that was slippery from an earlier rainfall (it looks like there used to be a runner there). There was one person to tend the bar, check people in and bring carts out. The upstairs bathroom smelled terrible and the pro shop is ill equipped with scarcely anything other than golf balls, tee's and minimal selection of shirts. I wish someone with a love for golf and some money to invest would buy this place. It is a worn down venue screaming for some love.
