Not walkable

So the back nine has holes where it seems like a quarter of a mile between green and the next tee. I played this course three times over the past couple of years and find myself realizing I’ve made the same stupid choices over and over. This is a tricky course but fun. The pitcher of beer for $7.50 helped with recovery.

Pairings

Sometimes when you are a single you get paired with people who are boring or too serious to enjoy the round. Here I was paired with a guy that had me laughing on the first tee and never stopped with the stories. The course was great, the greens were fast and true, and some of the stories were so good that I now claim them for my own. A great round of golf.

Walkable

The first time I played was a crowded weekend. Pace was still good and course is very walkable.

Airplanes

Everything about course was great except I did not realize just how close to the airport the course was, being buzzed by commercial airliners on the tee was a new and disconcerting experience for me. If noise, I mean lots of noise every five minutes or so does not bother you then this is a great course. If it does play somewhere else.

Cart path

This is a fine little course slowly going to seed. Everything is dormant this time of year so how can you judge conditions? Look at the cart paths, almost every hole has a cart path disruption. I thought I was too far south for freeze thawl to be a factor but something has destroyed a few feet of cart path on almost every hole. The layout is great, the greens and tees are reasonable, the fairways are in pretty good shape, but the cart paths are overshadowing the positives. From a marketing point of view fix the paths and raise the price.

Good time

This is a nice course, a nice layout and my only complaint is that only two holes don't have water in play and my golf balls apparently love water.

Interesting

The holes on this course are actully pretty good if it wasn't 1/4 mile from green to tee I would rate it higher, but the layout is terrible. The first tee is a not welll marked 1/4 mile from the clubhouse. Twice the course crosses a major road over a wooden bridge, often the distances will be extreme between holes. Often you find yourself driving on neighborhood streets searching for the cart path.

Cross your fingers.

This is a great layout in decline. The greens are still true but the standards have slipped below where the layout indicates they should be. The restrooms are dirty, the cut grass is clogging the fairways and they have no liquor license. It is still a fun to play course but has the potential to something special. Hopefully the new ownership bring the standards up.

Great views

We were looking for a golf course along I 68 on our way home from Gettysburg. This was about the right distance so we gave it a try. At one time it was probably a fine course but it's in decline. The fairways were full of dandelions the ruff was in serious need of mowing, on one hole the cart path has fallen into a pond so a wood barrier has been built to keep you off thr path. The sand traps have been allowed to go back to grass with GUR signs stuck in most bunkers. At the club house the snack basket was full of crackers that may have been original equipment.

On the upside 6 beers for ten bucks was nice and the panoramic view of Frostburg was beautiful.

A good time

Traveling in the area with two friends, we played this course in the afternoon after visiting Gettysburg Battlefield in the morning. The layout and view are great, the back nine is a little more interesting than the front but both are in good shape. We were behind a slow fourthsome and asked the single behind us to join us. He was a pleasure to watch, a local high school junior who new the course, he helped our scores with his local knowledge and played the course at par. A wider selection of beers and food would have helped but the course was just fine

More than you pay for.

I paid seventeen dollars to walk eighteen. The course varies the distances from hole to hole. The fairway and ruffs are fescue so sometimes the only difference is length of grass. There is no sand but some pot bunkers full of long fescue will challenge anyone. The greens were all good and fair. The people working were great. I enjoyed everything about my round.

The price was right.

I had some time to kill and this was an inexpensive course to play. The course was very crowded and is fairly tight so at some points you felt the need for a hard hat. A woman in the group behind us was hit by an errant drive. I heard "four" yelled so many times I was getting twitchy especially on the back nine. The course was dry but in okay shape considering the heavy play. The people playing the course were great, they tolerated the back ups with humor and I ended up having a great time.
