Brasstown Valley Resort
Played On 06/30/2021A Real Beauty
Lovely setting and well configured golf course. In a valley surrounded by mountains.
Course was beautifully conditioned and you’ll need every club in your bag.
Greens ran very true but running only at 9-10 on Stimp.
18th hole is only weakness. It’s one of the longest holes but has the narrowest fairway.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Played On 05/02/2021Got 5 hrs?
Played here a half dozen times over 20 yrs.
Very disappointed this year with pace of play.
Played on Fri afternoon and Sun morning.
Never saw a ranger. Five hour round on Fri and 4:45 on Sunday. Don’t think I will ever return.
Love the layout. Well-conditioned. Greens running 9-10 Stimp. Strantz’s masterpiece but not managed to expectations.
Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest
Played On 03/25/2021Got time ??
Two and one-half hours for nine holes.
Never saw a ranger.
Nice course. Good condition. Nice layout.
They have a pace of play problem.
Great fun
This Audubon preserve is a natural marvel. No houses. Water galore. Dozens of bird species.
(there was a huge turtle on one tee).
Layout is fine. Greens a little slow but with the contours, you would not want it too fast.
Very well-managed. Mgmt keeps you on time.
Pace of play was excellent though I did not see a Ranger.
Look, at this time of year, most golf courses reserve their tee times for members. Not here.
This is now my favorite public course this time of year in Naples. Wife was a little disappointed at the pro shop merchandise. (no biggie).
Little Traverse Bay Golf Club

This course has major elevation changes which make it a little quirky. And you need to lay-up off 15 tee to avoid rough. But it has dramatic views of the bay and Crooked Lake plus dynamite green designs that will challenge even skilled putters. Conditioning is A- Greens rolling 10.5 on Stimp. Pro shop, bar and restaurant are very friendly and offer very inviting spot for dinner.
Of the six courses I’ve played in Harbor Springs, including those at three times the price, this is my favorite.
Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course
Played On 06/16/2019tough track first time
First time player and there had been a good bit of rain several days before so no roll and slow greens.
It’s a nice course and well-conditioned. Never saw a marshal which is bad though pace was acceptable. Several design flaws on a handful of holes. First hole is long par 4 and fairway bunker in middle is where you normally would want your drive to be. Number 15 is long par 4 with bunker and deep grass right next to green. Too penal. Tee markers were poorly placed for our mixed foursome with ladies penalized. Very difficult for first timer to know where to hit the ball. Fun course.

We played this course, Wequinasong (sp?), True North and Boyne Heather. Hands down, this was my favorite. And super cheap. Public course, now listed for sale for $2.5 mm but with deed restrictions that make it hard to sell.
Loved the layout which minimized blind tee shots. What you see is what you get including spectacular views of the Bay. Conditioning was good but not up to True North (private). Greens nice at 9.5 with lots of slope (typical for the area).
Just loved looking at these holes from the tee and take a minute to look back from the green. Good bar and restaurant next to pro shop.

At $225, I would not have played this Fazio course but my host included it in our itinerary. It is private and we had our pro call. There were very few people on the golf course.
First, I am a Fazio fan and am surprised that he was chosen for this job given the topography. It is a very hilly course and lacks the wide open bigness that marks so many of his courses. This ended up having numerous blind tee shots which I do not care for. Also, the routing got weird as holes were scrunched into the top or bottom of the elevation.
Immaculate conditioning. Way too expensive compared to better (my opinion) area courses.
It’s not a Fazio design, it’s a Jim Engh design,. The only Fazio course in Michigan is at Treetops.

Played On 09/10/2018unmemorable
This course was fine. In good condition. Friendly staff. Greens a little slopey. I just found the layout uninspiring. Some of the holes a little tight as almost every hole was a dogleg. Need to be able to work the ball. It’s a very ok course, just did not get my juices flowing.

Played On 09/09/2018A little stange
This is a private club with friendly staff. We were not members but had our club pro call. Course was in good condition and greens were about 9.
The problem is with the layout of some of the holes. There are several large elevation changes and some holes have odd routing. The greens were too slopey for me, though I admit the other area courses had the same issue. The holes were not marked and we got lost a couple of times.
It’s a nice place, just not my cup of tee.
Porter's Neck Country Club
Played On 05/30/2018Too private
This is a very nice golf course. However I have punished them in the rating due to their unwelcoming attitude toward non-members. As of now, non-members are not allowed til August. Also, seems like whenever it rains they close the range with no adjustment in fee. And fees are the highest in the area.
Look, most people that belong to a club don’t want it to be daily fee. I get it. But we non-members need to know.

A couple of years ago, this was an acceptable course. Decent routing (though tight...not for 20+ handicaps) ok conditioning, very few houses, lots of scenic wetlands, etc.
Not anymore.
The owner decided to stop supporting the course and the conditioning is horrible. Large bare spots on fairways, greens and rough. Everywhere. This course needs a $2mm investment to make it playable. I heard that the owner just hired a new superintendent. Who would want that job? No way the owner will get this right. Stay away unless the $28 afternoon weekday rate is all you can afford.
Saguaro Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2018Easy desert golf
Sure there are better golf courses in Scottsdale but very few daily fee courses in Scottsdale area can top the quality, fun and consistency of these two courses. (I am rating both courses here as I could not detect a big difference between them). The layouts, conditioning and greens are excellent. Greens were rolling around 10 and you would not want them any faster with the slope and firmness of them.
It’s all so easy with the resort right there, very good food at the course and hotel. Reasonable greens fee and no houses anywhere! Just a few coyotes, roadrunners and quail all over the place. I always come back here because it’s so easy and fun.
Love the wildlife
You will see all kinds of wildlife/waterfowl on this course and there are no houses. So it is a fun experience. But, I am a sticker for greens that roll and Raptors do not. Seemed likel old Bermuda rolling at 8-9. Also, the fairways had not come in as well as some other courses down here. Too tight lies. Well designed with the elevated greens and coquina waste bunkers which I putted from when I was green side. Nice people especially Jordan at halfway house.
Calusa Pines Golf Club
Played On 01/16/2018Best on East Coast of FL but very private
Excellent golf course. Huge fairways, beautiful green complexs and perfect bunkers, some of which are extremely penal. But most of your strokes will be spent on the greens which were running about 12 and had a good bit of slope. I had two approach shots land 12 ft from pin with spin that rolled off green into rough. I had two birdie putts roll off the green into the rough. Some of the most challenging greens I have ever seen on a Championship course.
Best golf course in FL not named Seminole.
Calusa Pines Golf Club

Next to Siminole, best course in state. Greens were 12-13. Faireays wide.
The Club Pelican Bay - Club/Pelican Course
Played On 01/11/2018Private Club so have your pro call
Three nines here, all of which a very good. The Club nine is my favorite followed by Pelican then Bay.
Outstanding greens running at 11 on Stimp, large, well-designed without too much slope though the Member has at least a two stroke advantage due to knowledge of slope.
Layout is playable but with a fair number of ponds/lakes and bunkers. If your game is a little off it will cost plenty.
Brand new 40,000 ft clubhouse is a showpiece. At this time, new pro shop is still under construction but temporary is fine. I believe these nines are among top five courses in Naples.
Boot Ranch Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2017Exclusive Gem in Hill Country
This is an exclusive private club so I hope you can find a way of playing there. The new Bermuda greens are perfect, rolling like 11. Putts go exactly where you hit them. Brilliant layout. I’m a 6.1 but my host plays the Executive tees. Tell you what, it was still a big challenge. Hard to reach par 5’s in two due to deep waste areas that need to be carried. Fairways generous, greens plenty big and fair. Also, new sand in bunkers are pure and consistent.
This is an exceptional golfing experience.

What a treat! I played here 46 years ago. What a dog track then. Now it is a glorious golf experience. Beautiful open layout with generous fairways, large greens that were rolling about 10-11 but fair in contour. Not greatly fond of the real short par 4’s because it was too risky to hit driver. Oh, free water and $2 for a Gatorade! Not bad for a ritzy joint.
This course beats the other Charlottesville tracks, Birdwood (under renovation), Farmington and Old Trail. Need to stay there or be Member I think.
River Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/21/20174-star,especially for women
Nice layout and conditioning. Not much elevation change. Not many forced carries, good for women.
Big gripe with amenities. Waited for rental clubs which needed to be arranged and cleaned. Then discovered that not all clubs were cleaned, had two p-wedges and hybrid was broken. Lousy putter. Driver had scratches on top. Had to wait ten minutes for hot dog at turn and it was cold. Did not lose place on course because of slow play behind us. When I made tee time, was not told that I was in middle of Men's team play. We were twosome and could have played at another time. Again, nice course, sub-par management.
Wow, we are so happy you enjoyed your round, u000007152317! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
