About
Intermediate player. I mostly play for the fun of the game and for the business aspect. I just enjoy being on the course and finding that "one shot" that keeps me coming back, if I end up having a good round in the process then I'll take that as a win.

Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park/The First Tee of Pittsburgh
Played On 11/02/2016Can't Say Enough About "The Bob"
I've only been playing golf now for about 12 years now and this was the first course I played, so I may be a bit biased. However, I do believe that this course is by far one of the better kept "executive courses" in the PGH area. The holes are manageable and they are short enough that they make a 9 hole round seem like a nice walk through a park. Play is generally at a decent pace in the mornings and throughout the day, although it can get crowded after work hours due to First Tee lessons and groups. I generally find that, even though the fairways and rough are basically the same grass just cut to different heights, the greens are always well maintained for a course that is located in the heart of the City of Pittsburgh. I happen to think that this course is perfect for trying out new clubs, finding you r swing, or just getting in a good practice round coupled with a nice walk. I really can't complain too much about the course and with a price tag of only $15 for either 9 or 18, that's a deal that is a no brainer. Yes, there are a few hills that test the average walker, but again I find it a challenge. Overall, if you have the time and are looking for a good value, then give "The Bob" a try. You might find a new course on your favorites list.
Berkley Hills Golf Course
Played On 10/29/2016Great Course Def Coming Back
I played 2 rounds there during a stay in Johnstown for a hockey tournament on a friday and saturday. During that time, I had nothing but positives from the golf experience (we lost the tournament). Staff was extremely friendly, the course was very well maintained and looked gorgeous for fall golf, and the I've never seen a pro shop that was more well stocked for a small town course. I really don't remember the price for the round, but didn't really care since my group was treated so nice on the first day (friday) that we decided to come back for a second day of golf prior to our hockey games. Since this is a yearly hockey pilgramage, I can definately say that we will be coming back and playing this course again. Thanks.
Glengarry Golf Links
Played On 10/01/2016There for an outing, turned out great
Overall I found the course to be a good experience. The staff was nice and the course was laid out just enough to challenge me. I was part of an outing and fun was the main agenda so the course took care of us in terms of not disappointing. Greens and fairways were well maintained and the bar was nice as well. I'd go back there with the right group.
Nine Hole at South Park Golf Course
Played On 09/24/2016Ugh, THAT place.
If Schenley Park Golf course had a "goofy looking" cousin, it would be the South Park Golf Course (18 hole). It and its sibling the South Park (9 hole) make up two of the worst kept courses my clubs have ever hit a ball on. If it weren’t for the 2 guys I regularly play with to beg me to go there, I’d never actively frequent that course on my own. The course is in desperate need of water, I’ve never seen a fairway there that isn’t burned up or damaged by some sort of sun damage. Then there are the greens, they are a terrible sight to look at. I’m sure that the average golfer wouldn’t even allow their dog to take a leak on them. Then, of course, there is the lovely staff at the course which is basically a group of retired old men who would rather spend their day doing nothing and mooching off the county than maintaining the carts and being helpful to the golfers that provide the business to the course. Being a guy, and a big guy, I CAN say that the course does offer decent food and at least beer specials, so at least they have that going for them. But as a whole, this place I’m sure was great in it’s heyday, the clubhouse is massive and you can tell there was some history there, but the glamor is gone and with it obviously went the pride in the gold course and it shows. I’d love to see it come back but aside from a private citizen hitting the powerball and reviving the ole girl…I just don’t see it happening, nor my recommendation to others.
Scenic Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/01/2016Keep Coming Back
I’ve been playing at Scenic Valley now for about 4 years both in an outing and with a small group and it never disappoints me. The staff is always friendly and the bar well stocked. I feel the price point is on par with what golfers are willing to pay and they get their moneys worth out of the course due to its challenging play and its level of being well maintained. The fairways and greens have always been disease free and well cut on the days I’ve been there. Never really had a bad experience, would defiantly recommend this course to friends.
3 Lakes Golf Course
Played On 06/15/2016High dollar price for low dollar value
Despite living close to this course, I just can't bring myself to go back there and shell out the $25-$40 price tag for a round no matter what type of special they are having. The last experience I had there despite the great weather was anything but great. Poorly kept greens, a backed up course, and a high price tag made for an in general poor review. I realize that this place is a "former country club" but I don't wish to pay country club prices for a simple round of golf that I can get from another course at a cheaper rate with a better looking course.
