Monterey Pines Golf Club
Played On 11/26/2023good experience
Had fun again. Only real complaint was someone ahead of my group was seriously dragging his feet around the cups, creating foot-long gouges. Probably some fat guy who should be bowling instead...

Short but sporty layout in excellent condition. Lots of fun, and not a bad chance to tune up the short game.
Del Monte™ Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2023insanely slow play
I'm a semi-regular at this course, so I want to preface my review by saying that this particular experience was not indicative of how it usually is there.
I played on a Friday afternoon. It happened that in front of us was a recreational tournament, many of whose players may have been first-time golfers. It was clear that they had no interest in playing expediently. It took a full hour to play the first 3 holes.
I will say that the marshal did try to help - he even had one group skip a hole - but evidently the problem was just too big to manage.
Del Monte is a Pebble Beach Property course, and a round of golf there should be held to the same high standards as the other courses. This round was not pleasant. Safe to say I won't be booking late-day tee times at Del Monte in the near future.

The course seems to have weathered our nasty winter well. Lots of maintenance going on, but never got in the way of play.

Great place to play. Greens were a little bumpy but otherwise a lot of fun.
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 12/21/2020Not going back
I've placed Laguna Seca several times this year. Yesterday was my final round there (at least until I hear of some massive changes). The entire operation seems to be run on a shoestring. Course conditions (which never were great) are now really poor, and it's not just because of the season -- greens appeared unmown and in some cases unwatered.
Equally poor is the general disposition of (most of) the employees - the guy behind the counter has the personality of a door knob, and acts like customers are a nuisance.
The last few times out, I've noticed a complete lack of marshals. There's no excuse for this at a course with a seniors program. This, of course, leads to all kinds of unacceptable behavior by players and spectators. I saw carts driven within 5' of putting greens, and virtually onto teeing areas.
Overall, the place has the feel of a dying municipal course. It's really a shame because the layout has such great potential. But without better management, Laguna Seca has become depressing to visit.
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2019Sporty little course
One of the better bargains in the Monterey area, Laguna Seca offers more of a challenge than reading the score suggests. Many holes, while short, demand a strong drive in order to yield a look at the green for your approach. Most of the course is moderately hilly, and the term "target golf" definitely means something here.
Condition is decent. Fairways are a little dry, but not too bad for this time of year. Greens are excellent: fast but turfy, and they will hold a well-played shot. Bunkers are hit-and-miss: some are fine, while others are ratty and almost empty of sand.
All in all, a fun little course with more than enough challenge for a duffer like me.
