Hope my review steers people away from this place

The good: greens are in superb shape. Actually just phenomenal. However, if my review keeps just one person from wasting their money at this place then my 15 minutes writing this is worth it. First, I purchased a foursome and my email receipt clearly indicates I paid for 18 holes and a meal is included. When I arrived to check in the gentleman said that I paid for 9, not 18 and that a meal was not included. But my receipt shows 18 and meal included. Honestly, this man was just clueless and after 20 minutes I was too frustrated to continue. I figured I would just continue to play the back 9 anyways and just pay for a meal somewhere else. From the looks of the place, the included meal probably would have been contaminated anyway.

Awesome practice area, but if you’re a long hitter stay away. You won’t have room for woods and probably not even a 3-4 iron if you hit them 210 and beyond. The course itself; layout is just one of the most poorly designed courses I have played. It’s short. I get that. But this is not a course for the “good” golfer. The issue with that is the green and the next tee box are just too close to each other. If two people are teeing off simultaniously then you need a spotter because if someone is just a fraction off, you’re in danger. This is just not a safe course. Which leads me to hole 12. We were teeing off 12, a couple of kids were teeing off 11. We are watching them just in case. We lose their ball in the sun and it nails our cart in flight. Three fee lt away from a playing partner. Could have killed her. No fore. No watch out. No nothing. Being that they were a twosome and we had four we decided to let them play through. But they refused. Probably because they were too scared of us because they knew they were in the wrong. We called the course to send out a ranger and they don’t even have one. Absolutely no course disciple. Ridiculous. They sent out the cart washer. He said that they said they yelled fore and said they were sorry which of course they would lie about to avoid getting in trouble. But our issue was that they refused to play through. The “ranger” would not enforce that. He left and two hole later there was a major back up because this twosome would not play through a group of four. My point is this is the clientele that you will see at this course. And they were bad. Shots all over the place. On a course like this with its sub standards setup that is just dangerous. We had to call in a second time to get that “ranger” to come back out to escort them ahead of us. Then they began to eight putt and chip at will, practicing the short game that they evidentially don’t have, slowing the pace of play. We could have cared less because we were letting other twosomes and a single play through, but their play and the clear negligence of the course staff to enforce proper pace of play made it a miserable experience for about four groups.

Please, for $18 for 9 holes there are much better choices in town. Stay away from this place at all costs.

Poor greens

Played here many times, first time in maybe 6-7 months and the greens are in horrendous shape. We didn't even bother to finish our round. Surprised they were so beaten up with all of the rain we've been getting. They just must have let the place go. A shame too.... I loved playing here.

Please read, and save your money

Hopefully I can guide a few people so they do not waste their money or time on this course as we did. It is not worth saving the $4-$5 per player greens fees that you would incur playing at a far nicer course.

This was my first time playing the course, and we will never go back, not even if you paid me. The driving range was abysmal and there was very little grass to hit from. They could have easily moved the ropes, but apparently are either too lazy or short-staffed to do so. The putting green was, however, immaculate and in great shape. They didn’t have any cart keys for us when we checked in, so we were forced to wait. When they finally came, they parked them out front but we had no idea where the first hole was. There were no signs and we ultimately teed off the 10th just because it was adjacent to the clubhouse, thinking it was the 1st.

The course itself is just horrendous. The game is played around the greens and they were terrible at best. If you are on the fringe, or have a long putt, just forget about putting. Chip it. There are large burned-out areas, and if you putt you will have no directional control over. On one green, I counted 26 ball marks. Most of the others were similar; I guess the majority of people who play there take no pride in the course.

After hitting a home on one hole, the homeowner came out to confront us. It was a fade, but the hole was tight. I hit far worse shots that day, just this is the one that got a home. If there was not a fence separating the home from the tee boxes, who knows what would have happened. The clubhouse was quick to call authorities once reported.

On seven occasions a car beeped their horn on our backswing. Now this is no fault of the course, however, it does give a good indication of the playing conditions and the cliental in the surrounding area. Many holes you need to cross heavy traffic just to get to the next tee box; it just does not provide a good golfing experience.

We chose this course to save a couple of bucks, but now wished I would have spent $20 more per player to play elsewhere. It was just an awful experience and my only goal in writing this is to help advise others who may be looking to play here in the future. There are many other courses in the area to choose from, and your experience and game will be much better.

Great course

First time, but not my last. Not sure why I'm spending $30-$40 a round elsewhere when this is just down the street. Thoroughly impressed with this course.

Would never go again

After planning this outing for three months (best friend from high school came down for Daytona 500 weekend) I can say that without question, I will never go to or recommend this course to any friends or family. We arrived early to hit some range balls and were informed that there was a scramble in front of us so there were no carts available and that we should come back 15 minutes prior to our tee time (1:45pm). We did that as instructed but there were still no carts so we were instructed to wait by the putting greens. When our cart arrived (at 1:47pm) we still needed to drive to our cars to get our clubs. When we told the starter this, we were greeted with a rude look and comment. When we arrived at our car to put the bags in, the passengers bag clip was damaged so we had to ride back to the carts with the bag on our lap to get a replacement cart. We received another cart relatively quickly but when we arrived at the first tee the starter began arguing with us about why we were late. I informed him that we were at the course two hours early so we could hit some balls and grab some lunch, and it was of no fault of our own that the course had scheduled a scramble prior to our tee time which limited the amount of carts. He waved us through and said, "Just go". All four of us felt rushed and hurried, no way to start a round that cost a total of $200.
Around the fourth hole the same starter came up to the tee box and said that we should have "already hit" at which time we shared with him that the play on the course was extremely slow and we were not going to hit up into the foursome in front of us. In fact, one of the members of the group in front of us was practicing for a tournament and taking about 6-7 extra putts, all at different locations, on each hole which also slowed up the pace. We informed the course, but there was no resolution to this issue. It even happened on 18 when daylight was limited and we were just trying to finish our round. The play on the course was extremely slow on the front 9, with our group waiting on every tee box a minimum of five minutes prior to hitting. Hole 2, the wait was 16 minutes. When we stopped at the turn to get some food to take with us (since the first 9 had taken about three hours) we were told that they only had snacks. For someone who is concerned about their health, “just snacks” wasn't an acceptable answer.
Overall, I would never recommend to anyone paying $45 (which I booked a week in advance on golfnow) for this experience. It was awful and I hope this review helps

Dear Sir,

My name is Nate Stevenson, and I am the Director of Golf at Timacuan Golf Club. After reading your review of our facility, I am very upset to hear that you had such a poor experience, and even more upset to hear that you don't ever plan on returning. I would love the opportunity to speak with you about your experience on the Monday after the Daytona 500 to make sure that I can clearly understand the problems you encountered, and hopefully keep them from reoccurring in the future. I can be reached at nate@golftimacuan.com, or 407-321-0010 ext. 231. As I read through your review of our facility, there are a couple of things that you brought up that I would like to touch on. The Monday after the Daytona 500 is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year, and it is not uncommon at all to have nearly all of the cart fleet out on the course on extremely busy days. Golf courses typically have a fleet of 75 golf carts. With two golfers to each cart, a normal cart fleet can accommodate up to 150 golfers. When a golf course is completely full, you have two pairing groups on each hole, which equates to 144 players. This is a supply chain management issue that every busy golf course has to deal with, and certainly not a problem that is systemic to Timacuan. It simply means that the golf staff at a full course must quickly clean the golf carts as they come in off the course and get them to the players that are set start their round next. I understand that you would have preferred a cart right when you arrived at Timacuan two hours prior to your starting time, however when we have a full golf course, there are times when carts will be available just prior to the start of your round. Please keep in mind that the standard rate on this particular day was $69. I know that you left Timacuan very frustrated with how busy the course was, however I have to challenge your suggestion that the discounted online rate of $45 that you paid was too high. I would suggest a lower price would only create more demand, which would have made any issues with cart availability even more strained. The tournament that you mentioned was a 40 player shotgun that was scheduled to start at 1:00. The event went out at about 1:10 due to a slight delay at the first tee from morning play. Every group in this event had completed play by 5:30, or 4 hours and twenty minutes after they started. This event had absolutely no impact on cart availability, or pace of play. I am a little confused about your comment regarding picking up your clubs at the car. You stated that you arrived two hours prior to play in order to warm up at the practice tee, and have some lunch. It would seem to me that you would have probably unloaded your clubs in order to head to the practice tee and wouldn't wait until your tee time to do so. Nonetheless, I apologize if the starter gave you any grief as that certainly is not becoming of any customer service employee. In regards to the broken bag clip on your golf cart, there were two bags secured onto this cart for morning play, which leads me to believe that it broke when the morning golfers were unloading their bags. These clips are plastic and unfortunately do break from time to time. I apologize that the staff member that cleaned this cart did not identify that a clip had just broken and that you had the unfortunate situation of having to transport your bag from the car park to the cart staging area in your lap. I am happy to hear that the staff quickly replaced that cart with a new one with two working bag clips. I truly hope to have the opportunity to speak with you about the customer service issues that you had with our starter and ranger. We certainly take pace of play seriously at Timacuan and at no time allow players to practice on the golf course. In terms of your issue with just snacks at the turn, I apologize that your group was not able to order off the menu at that point in the day, and I have recommended that the hours of operation for the kitchen be looked into further. We greatly appreciate your business, and please know that your reveiw of our operation has helped us improve. I hope that I have been able to answer some of your concerns about your experience, and I hope that one very busy Monday after the Daytona 500 won't keep you from enjoying Timacuan again in the future.

Sincerely,

Nate Stevenson
