Woodley Lakes Golf Course
Played On 03/04/2023Rude and unorganized staff
This is my home course and I usually always have a great experience. On this day, I was greeted by a rude guy at the check in office who clearly didn’t want to be there. They also didn’t carts available that day because they supposedly lost the keys to the building. I have foot injuries so it wasn’t a great experience walking the course.
Woodley Lakes Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2021Wide open fairways
They have a decent driving range, chipping, and putting greens. Also a place to practice sand shots.
It’s called Woodley Lakes but no water hazards really come into play unless you hit really bad shots. Fairways are wide and aside from a couple of holes, it’s a great place for beginners and very score-able. For a LA muni, it’s great.
Encino at Sepulveda Golf Complex
Played On 05/15/2021Conditions were good
I haven’t played here in maybe 5 years and I haven’t seen the conditions this good in a while. It’s always a fun course to play. Good mix of length and challenging par 3’s.
Hidden Valley Golf Club
Played On 02/14/2016No marshall = slow play
Pros: The layout is fun and challenging and views are stellar. The conditions were great and the greens were a little slow but still fine. Staff is friendly. Carts have GPS. Also the price isn't bad at all. We paid $29 (with cart) to play on a Sunday afternoon.
Cons: The biggest complaint I have with here is there is no starter, no marshalls and no beer cart girls, and ridiculously slow play that can easily be avoided. There was a 4-some of high-handicappers 2 groups ahead of us that were teeing off from the tips and each taking 1 or 2 mulligans on every single tee shot. It really took the fun out of the round and we didn't even play the last hole due to darkness and annoyance. Not sure if I can recommend playing here until they address the slow play situation.

Balboa at Sepulveda Golf Complex
Played On 08/22/2015Easier of the two Sepulveda courses
This is my home course, so I usually come here once a week to play the back 9 ($14). It can get pretty crowded, especially on Sundays, so be prepared for a slow round if you're not teeing off super early.
Balboa is shorter than Encino, but the fairways are not quite as wide (they're still wide). The par 3's are pretty easy here and give you a great shot of getting birdies.
Encino at Sepulveda Golf Complex
Played On 08/15/2015Good course to hone your game
Keep in mind this is a muni course, so the facilities are a little dated and the condition of the course isn't going to be anywhere near a private course. It's a great course for beginners due to the wide fairways and not too many hazards.
I usually play the back nine on weekend mornings for $14. Saturdays aren't as crowded as Sundays, but it can get pretty busy here. If you play 18 holes during a non-twilight tee time, it can get pretty expensive for a muni course (around $45 + cart).
Greens are pretty slow, but are generally pretty large and don't have too many breaks.
Fairways are wide open and not too many doglegs. This course is a little longer than the Balboa one here and also a tiny bit more difficult.
The food is not bad at all. I usually pick up breakfast to go after my 9-hole round.
Also the staff is friendly.
Woodley Lakes Golf Course
Played On 08/08/2015Not bad for a muni course
Compared to Encino and Balboa, I think Woodley Lakes is a little bit nicer but has more hazards (water, slightly thicker rough).
There are also ducks/geese walking around so be careful not to hit them. As a result, there is a lot of duck/goose droppings on the fairways, which can be annoying.
For some reason it seems to play a little slower than most muni courses I've played at.
They have a grass range but the lies there are probably the worst I've ever seen at a golf range. It's also near the airport so you'll hear planes overhead, but it's there's also an area nearby where people fly their RC airplanes, so it can get distracting at times.
