Deceiving approach shots, bunkered defense

Great course. We played when the greens were coming back so that's' about my only complaint; they could have been better. We played the tips and I don't recall a course where I hade more 190+ approach shots even when out drives were running 280ish.

If you can't keep your tee ball in the fairway it will roll into a bush or some kind of native landscape where you can't play from if you find your ball. The rough is non-existent and the entire place is well kept. If your ball is in the grass your lie will be fine, if you squirt it somewhere you will have to take a drop.

The greens are narrow but long. Approach shots should be played to the number. 5 yards long or short has potential to miss the putting surface all together. The greens are mostly blind; you can see the flag, lots of guarding bunkers, but not the actual putting surface on most holes. A shot-makers course for sure. Grab a yardage book.

Very challenging for our first time out not knowing the green's defenses. It is one of the most bunkered courses I've played. We counted 12+ on one hole from the tee shot alone. The sand is always in play. I look forward to playing it again with a bit more local knowledge.

All in good shape, except the greens...

A buddy and I went out for memorial day weekend. We were initially impressed by the service and practice facility. When on the practice green I noticed the grass was not right and looked like it had some fungus or something overtaking the grass...

On the first Green I noticed the same fungus / lack of grass. The putting surface looked good until you were actually on it. The ball didn't check all day as these green conditions were the same on each hole. For a low handicap player who traveled to play, I was disappointed on the greens. Fairways and the rest of the course were great. The facility should notify players of this condition before the come out until it is fixed.

OMG - A Must Play. Golfers dream about these conditions

We drove up from So Cal to surprise our Dad on his 60th B-Day. He is an NCGA board member and raves about this place as one of his favorites. After we played, I completely agree.

Great conditions throughout. The superintendent should be commended; the course conditions have literally set the bar as the best. Thankful we got to experience conditions the courses are in that these Pros play every week.

Not a bad lie anywhere, consistent bunker sand, great greens, and the entire place was manicured like it just walked out of a barber shop. The rough can be gnarly and it will get you. Photos don't do it justice.

I cant wait to play it again. I just wish it wasn't 650 miles from my front door. Don't pass up the opportunity to play this great track.

Great Golf & conditions

My dad and all the brothers played and can't wait to go back. We played a step up from tha back tees as single digit handicapers who all hit the ball 270+ off the tee. Watch out for the wilderness... you will not find your ball. One green has a bunker in the middle of it which was a bit strange. Friendly staff at the pro shop, cute cart girl, range included w/ pyramid of balls, lush fairways, true & fast greens. Course well kept & groomed all the way around. The only better place we have found conditions -wise in our local area is Journey at Pechanga, but, I feel this layout at fallbrook may be better.
