Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course
Played On 09/10/2022Awful
It’s a cow pasture with a lake nearby. Course design / set up is terrible. To top it off…greens punched and heavily sanded within past week and we were not notified. Do. Not. Play.
Mountain Shadows Golf Course
Played On 10/15/2018Great Fun!
The course is a lot of fun...the views are great and the staff are absolutely a joy to be around. The short course, with betting hole 17 1/2 is a great wedge and short iron test. The greens weren't great coming out of overseed but I've played here before when they're fantastic. Food is really good and the entire property is wonderful!
Thank you for the great review. The greens have improved coming out of overseeding. Enjoy our fun, fast round, our great view and cool setting for a lunch and a drink.
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2014If you enjoy golf, play somewhere else
9 holes in 3 hours! Awful course management, bunched up tee times because they fell behind AND because they had a shortage of carts. Attendants eating cheese sandwiches laughing at the fact they were out of carts. 10 min waits on every tee box, 4 foursomes backed up on par 5's. Paid for 18, played 9.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 11/26/2013Overpriced, poorly maintained
Ocotillo is known for its water hazards, but the course itself is terribly wet and soft. I slipped a couple times on the tee box, slung a cow pie out of one bunker and hit concrete in another, while cart tracks made muddy conditions and wet fairways unpredictable and terribly frustrating. At $60 for twilight rates, I felt Troon should be charged with a crime for robbery. I won't pay a greens fee ever again at Ocotillo, in fact, I'll never play there again...nor will I ever suggest anyone play there...so much so I'll dissuade my friends from playing there. It was a horrible experience...a 5:25 hour, awfully manicured and disgustingly wet round made for an experience that will stick in my mind. Lastly, I would've liked to make some comments to the golf shop, but teeing off at 12:45 and finishing at dark, of course the shop was closed and there was no recourse opportunity.
Vistal Golf Club
Played On 1/22/2013Get what you pay for.
I'll start by saying I had a lot of fun at Vistal. It was a fairly easy course with some great views of South Mountain and the skyline of metro Phoenix. The staff was friendly, the amenities were nice, and I can say enough about the views. The track was rather easy, probably put together for the recreational golfer rather than the serious, but there were a few holes that were fun, including a long par 3 on the back.
The course, as I wrote in the summary, you get what you pay for. The fairways were just the same grass and cut equally to the rough, the fairways are just spray painted lime green so you know the difference. The greens are shaggy, but still rolled pretty well. There's a bunch of course maintenance going on, but there were plenty of signs letting us know. The bunkers were really inconsistent, one would be fluffy sand and the next, concrete. Also, if you look at a satellite image you'll note the setup is somewhat like a CC layout in some parts. That plus the price that attracts a certain type of golfer, many times we had people in our fairway going the other way. Last, pace of play was dreadfully slow...but it was a beautiful day with beautiful views so I'm not complaining.
