Lived up to the hype today

TPC Scottsdale Stadium course lived up to the hype today. Greens were the best I've seen anywhere course was in impeccable shape. I just wish I could olay it a few more times. Looks way different without the grandstands everywhere, especially the famous #16 par 3, but still tons of fun. Top rate care from the staff made it that much better.

Coming into it's own

Been quite a while since I played the new Papago since ASU made it their home course, and I must say it's finally starting to come into it's own and realize it's full potential. The track itself has never been in question, one of the great layouts anywhere in town.
But last time I played following the arrival of the new ASU practice facility, the course was still in its rough-around-the-edges condition from years ago. That's starting to be corrected and if they keep going this way, Papago will truly become the gem it always should have been. They're cleaning up the edges around the holes and strenthening the layout even further. Green complexes are becoming world class and care of the park has improved greatly. While the greens are still recovering from aeration a couple weeks ago, it was still a treat to play and it's easy to imagine the nations best college golfers competing here each year. I'm very proud of what they are doing with Papago and very optimistic that the facility is on it's way to a true world class golf experience (and starting to be worth what they have been charging since ASU arrived!).

Fun course to play

Had a real nice round today at Bear Creek Bear course. It's a fun course to play, good length from the back tees, interesting hole layouts, very walkable. Conditions on Jun 1 were pretty good, a little dried out transitioning from winter to summer grass. But the greens were very honest, rolling nice, and a good speed. Held some long iron shots nicely. Very hard to read these greens. The slopes are deceptive with the surrounding elevation changes, making it hard to determine where the ball will break. There isn't a lot of danger on this course, not a lot of trees, so it's pretty simple in that regard and not much shade to be found. A few lakes to keep the challenge there, not overly bunkered. I only found one bunker all day.
My only critique would be there is no drinking water or even beverage cart of any kind during the week. It made walking difficult when you have to lug your own water all the way around the course.

Couldn't have had a nicer time

I couldn't have had a nicer time today at Payson Golf Club. Had to be in Payson by 4 so I brought my sticks to squeeze in as many holes as I could and it was just a storybook day. The course is waking up nicely and the weather was just perfect, cool, gentle breeze. The course itself is muni standard, not real sophisticated but fun little layout. Plays pretty short, greens slow and bouncy with lots of slope, hard to make putts. I joined up with a couple young men who were very friendly and fun to play with. Got a full 18 in less than 3 hours on a Fri afternoon. The 3.8 rating might be a little high for the course but deserves it for the fun and the scenic layout. If you go for fun and don't expect country club/resort conditions you will have a great time.

Absolute Pleasure Today

It was just an absolute pleasure to play Aurora Hills today in all respects. Wide open, fun, grip it and rip it course with little trouble and outstanding green complexes, and at half the rate of commonground down the street. Had a blast today. Details below if interested.
From the time I showed up this morning I had the model golf experience. Golf shop very welcoming and offered me to start early if I wanted to. I was a single today so after some warmup on the range and the excellent short game area, I went off early walking. I found the course in excellent shape especially considering it’s November. Greens were in pristine condition, firm and fast, and with all the slope and contours the greens were quite a fun challenge. Played through a foursome at the turn and off I went like I owned the place despite the robust amount if golfers out on a cool windy Monday. Honestly the only thing preventing a 5 star rating was the layout is a little too simple to be a 5 star track, but that also makes it very playable and a lot of fun. And it was nice to have a proper 19th hole with food, drinks, and a comfortable place to chill overlooking the course. I will happily come back. Just a great day today.

Times they are a changin'

Times they are a changin' and Tunica National is no different. Time will tell if it's for the better, but one thaing that is NOT better are the bunkers. Tunica Nat'l used to stand out because of there top knotch care of their bunkers. They were groomed, consistent and honest. Not any more, at least for now. They seem to be pretty much ungroomed now, some hard pan, some softer, each bunker plays different from the previous, a definite decline here. Hopefully it's only temproray with the increased green fees and number of players. Tunica Nat'l will always be a champio ship quality layout, now can they keep it championship quality conditions?

Time to bring some sanity to the rating for this course

Time to bring some sanity to the rating for this course. It is not a 2.3. It is a championship quality, historic old course in Salt Lake City. My friend was looking.for a place to play and asked several people for a recommendation, they all said Bonneville. They just played the City Am here in June. So don't listen to the reviewers who complain about pace of play. I would rate it a solid 4.3-4.4, maybe higher. More detail below if interested.
The course isn't real long, but plays up and down the hills. We walked 18 and were pretty beat by the end. The conditions were ok for a late Oct, a little dried out in spots but overall pretty good for so late in the year. Pro shop guys were helpful, wasn't very expensive, my friend and I played 18 at Mon noon for less than $100 for both of us including range balls and a couple logo Titleists.
The course is never boring. It doesn't play real long even from the tips, but each hole is unique with enough challenges to punish wayward shots. Tree lined fairways with large very mature trees. The real strength of this course are the greens. They are very hard to read with deceptive slope, deceptive speed, and enough tiers and contours to challenge anyone. Our short games were definitely challenged. My friend at one point.muttered something.about spending hours and hours on his short game and still getting eaten up here.
Make sure you bring a water bottle as the only water is at the closed snack shack that you pass four or five times as the course winds around. Miss it and you will have hydration issues. Even the clubhouse had no waters.
Weather was great, pace of play was great, greens were menacing but very playable, just an overall solid golf experience. I will play Bonneville anytime

Jury is still out on this precious resource

Tunica National is a course in flux. There's been a change in leadership from a true pro golfer who was all about golf to a new kind of leadership, and the jury is still out on what Tunica National will become. The course was in excellent shape today for the most part, although they don't seem to be caring for the sand traps like they used to. I can't remember a time when the bunkers were playable out there, and they always used to be playable. But it's still pretty lush and the greens are still excellent. Rolling pretty quick right now but not as fast as they make them from time to time.
I do like the new people working the pro shop desk - they seem to be much more engaged and friendly to the golfers than some of the people before.
There are some changes going on, so far cosmetic and personnel, so the golf remains strong. I'm sure prices are about to go up a lot - it will be very interesting to see how this affects the property. It could scare away all the golfers and lead to it's ruin, or it could transform it into an even higher quality venue than it already is. I'm just hoping not to lose this precious resource

Did not disappoint

It's been a great week of golf in the Indy area and The Fort did not disappoint. Buffer Park, Brickyard Crossing, and the CC of Indy were all stellar golf experiences and The Fort brought Indy golf to yet another level. Historic, scenic, BIG, lush, just a great venue and the conditions were fantastic, and for a price that would make most high falutin' tracks blush. Winding through the hill country of the old Army fort area, this gem was a real pleasure. We played the White Tees, and when we looked back, the 2 tees behind us looked they could offer all any golfer could handle. Each home was unique and memorable, with ample fairways on some, tight spots in others, not a boring hole to be found. My friend who lives in the area says it's his favorite local course and I can see why. The greens do suffer a little from ample play with a lot of unrepaired ball marks and some slight fungus damage here and ther, but not enough to detract from the experience. I'd be happy to play here again given the chance. If in the Indy area, don't miss this beaut, er, brute!

Real pleasure and privilege to play CC of Indy

Very honored to be the first to review! It was a privilege to play the Country Club of Indianapolis today. Total 5 star golf experience all around. This is a Palmer Advantage Club, so I brought a friend and played with my membership from my club. We were treated like special guests at every point. Great place to play. Details follow if interested.

The drive through the gate presents a classic, stately, tree-lined entry. There were plenty of polite young people there ready to assist with clubs and cart, so first impression was superb. Very courteous welcome at the pro shop with very easy going pace. Driving range and practice green were all first rate. Greens rolled so nice and fast I was sure I would make a bunch of putts (I didn't but my friend rolled the rock great and sank some nice putts). The course was very memorable. Lots of terrain, big beautiful trees, and a creek that seemed to run throughout. Course amenities were excellent, with front 9 coming back to the club house for mid round refreshments. Probably the most memorable thing was the tee box on #11 that wraps around a large tree in a horseshoe shape. Very unique and Horsehoeesented a stunning look. Several holes finish on top of a hill (including 9 and 18), giving a real challenge of club selection. Just had a great day and look forward to going back as a Palmer Advantage member. Thanks Country Club of Indianapolis!

5 Star course in every respect and then some

Brickyard Crossing is a 5 star golf experience in every sense. The conditions were just superb today - resort/country club caliber. Everything I saw or experienced was top quality including the customer service. Lots of people there to help out and very friendly. It’s truly sad to see people with bad attitudes drop the rating of a course like this. And you add in the special experience of playing inside a legendary venue like the Indy Raceway, just special. There was a Ferrari driving course going on the day I played, so they were racing around the inside track during the round, extremely cool! I admit in terms of value it is pricey, at least you get a top quality course and experience for the money. Well worth playing at least once. A real pleasure.

Deserves 4.8 rating

It’s rare to see a 9 hole course with such a high rating - ok, you never see a 9 hole course rated this high. Buffer Park deserves it. Just a gem of a course tucked away in central Indianapolis. Regulation length, in fact can play pretty long from the tips. Course conditions were superb with delightful hole layouts. Just a pleasure to play. Oh, did I mention price? I think they charged me only $25 to walk 18. While there is no driving range, it is an excellent place to work on putting, with an ample practice green to get good work in. Greens in excellent shape. Definitely play if you get a chance. As good a golf value as you will find anywhere

What fun in Alaska!

Can't believe there's no reviews on Palmer Golf course. Well let me get the party started with a 5 star rating. Ok it may be a stretch to call it 5 star, but I'm front loading it for all the grumps who trash courses' ratings! What fun I had at Palmer today! This storied course comes with US Open pedigree, being selected for qualifying for quite a few years now. And while it's not necessarily at the very top tier of golf courses, it's easy to see why the USGA likes this venue. Plenty long and solid challenges make Palmer a lot of fun to play. I hit from the back tees today and glad to say I shot my handicap. Very scenic with snow capped mountains all around, and a living air show/museum as it winds arou d the Palmer airport with all the unique Alaska aviation going on. Pace of play was good for a muni playing.mid week. There are spots that suffer from arctic challenges, so have to play around those, but not a big deal considering where it is located. Overall great time and worth the 45 minutes drive out from Anchorage to play it

Doesn't live up to the hype, EXCEEDS IT!

Ahhh Bethpage Black, the legend lives! Got a chance to play on a work trip and may I say, it doesn't live up to the hype, it exceeds it! Rarely does any experience in life exceed such high expectations, but the Black Course certainly does. It's just such a golfers paradise at Bethpage - 90 holes of golf there, yes I said 90! And while surprisingly there is very poor areas for practice, nonetheless from the time you step on property, they create an atmosphere of all golf, all the time! Their teller windows for paying your green fees have every single opening, not just tee times but individual openings in a foursome, posted on big screens making it super easy for a walk on to pick your course and time. And the golf course, wow. Not only do they NOT allow carts on the Black, but they don't want you setting you bag down on the tee box, that's how much they care for their course. Everybody walks the black. As big as it gets, with winds, bends, sand, long whispy grass, boy this course was more than I could handle and kicked my butt! Just so memorable and gorgeous holes! I could go on all day, but if you are serious about golf, The Black Course at Bethpage State Park is a must.

Best golf option anywhere close to Memphis TN

In my opinion, this is by far the best golf option anywhere close to Memphis. Nothing else comes close. Quality of course, practice area, upkeep, and best of all price make it untouchable. A true championship layout with world class practice area. Lots of hazards, lots of challenges, you can play it as long as you can handle. Greens do vary day to day in speed but are never in bad condition or slow.
A couple things to keep in mind before you go:
- It is a down home place, so you may encounter a group of 5 (or even more). But don't worry, everyone is friendly and will step aside and let you play through
- There is no starter (or marshaller), which I like, but might make some people a bit nervous. Just be ready to go on time and it will all work out fine.
-. Weekends can be a real bear with all the out-of-towners playing the weekend from the casino, so bring an ample supply of patience or try to play durung the week

A real treat

Decided to splurge a little bit and play Kapolei. I usually don't spend anywhere near that much money to play golf, but I had the opportunity so I took the rare step. I was not disappointed. It truly was golf at a higher level and the course definitely shows off as the championship venue that it is. Carpet like conditions and perfect greens, and yes, they are pretty much all elevated. I was actually surprised how much room there is to miss out there. There are some spots you will lose your ball in, but they can be easily avoided with a little care. The greens actually putted fairly slow, but not in a bad way. Plus it was nice to be sent off first at 8:04am on a Friday with two other singles. We took our time and were still done in 3 hours, and that was with me walking the front nine.
I do have a couple of critiques though. The warm up was a little challenging and substandard because you have to hit off of matts in beautiful Hawaii, and the range didn't really open until almost 8 for an 8:04 start. At least they let us putt and chip then hit a few before we started. Didn't detract from the value or experience any, but it is substandard in my view. Regardless I had a very enjoyable round.

Always a 5 Star Golf Experience at Prince Hawaii Hotel

It's always a 5 star golf experience at the Hawaii Prince, or Prince Waikiki Hotel, whatever it's called. I think they have one of the best start set ups anywhere. The carts and starter are right there outside the golf shop and they really apply effort to make the whole experience good. The course is always in nice shape and today was no exception. It's always a little windy though so bring your best low ball flight game. Super value, super round. Thanks Hawaii Prince

Was a real pleasure to play Le Triomphe today, and an honor to write the first review. From the drive in to the 18th green, first class experience. The mini Arc de Triomphe entering the property and club house were an especially nice touch and gets the day off to a great start. Forgiving and playable course, very puttable greens, and friendly, courteous staff made for a nice day. Nothing out of place there. Hope to play when the wind is down, because 15 gust 25 made the course a bear today.

Classic beauty

Very impressed with Oakbourne. Very solid test of golf - challenging and hard but not ridiculous or gimmicky. Easy to see why the USGA selected it to host a 2021 US Open qualifier. Got to play on a reciprocal from Le Triomphe with my cousin who’s a member there. Greens did have some damage on the front but all in all, very difficult greens. Soft but very quick. Smaller size greens with some very difficult spots for pin placement. Course conditions very nice. Gotta keep it in play because off fairway bad lies and lots of tree trouble. Lots of doglegs!!! Some real pretty holes - the first par 5 on the back just a gem. Plus being so close to Lafayette airport made it a treat to watch airplanes. Just a real nice day.

golfpass rating absurd

My buddy invited me to come up to Greyhawk to play Talon, thought I’d check the golfpass rating just for grins. That 3.6 rating is not only stupid it’s just plain absurd. 64% recommended? Ridiculous. You tell me, do you think the NCAA Championship would play a 3.6 rated course? Not. Greyhawk is a legit 5 star championship course in every sense. The conditions today (early April) were just perfect. Is it a little pricey? Yeah a little. But there aren’t many places anywhere that overseed from edge to edge like they do here, not even TPC Scottsdale, who host the PGA every Feb. Perhaps the whiners rating it so low don’t like to pay what it costs for this level of golf. Regardless, suffice it to say at Greyhawk you’ll get pristine, manicured, 5 star championship golf on beautiful green grass all winter long, even if you have to pay a little extra for it. Did I mention the beautiful setting and nice facilities? Just ask Tom Lehman, who was hanging on the veranda w/family today.
