Fun place to play

The reviews are pretty accurate:
- Charming, old timey course - check
- Short track (most par 4's 300yds - or less) - check
- Slow play - check
- Balls flying everywhere - check

But I gotta say, if you understand what the golf experience is there, you'll have a great time. I mean the 19th hole is named The Billy Baroo for the crying out loud! Course was packed all the way past when we finished (teed off at 2pm, finished 7pm) with people having a fun time enjoying a late summer round. Lots of couples, lots of friends. Drink cart ever present. Charming course, decent, playable conditions and the greens were actually very nice.
If you're looking for a regulation, serious golf experience, it might not be for you. But if you want to have a fun time in a nice setting and have a modicum of patience, give it a shot. Knock a few back, tell lots of stories between shots, have a tasty burger after. To be honest, if you can't have fun at Foster, the problem isn't the course, or the slow play, or any other lame excuse, the problem is you.

Great afternoon as usual

As usual at Tunica National, great afternoon of golf. Got to play the day Hurricane Laura blew past after the rain stopped. Of course Bob had the course open when most others were closed. This course can handle soooo much water. It was a little spongy in spots but greens perfect. Good day to play in links wind conditions. Actually played one of my better rounds out there, testament to the course, the staff, and their commitment to golf. Make sure you visit Willy in the restaurant and ask for the club sandwich. He must put magic dust on that thing!

Riverwalk is way underrated

Riverwalk was a pleasure today. From all the courses I've played on golfnow, it is by far the most underrated. Yes they charge extra for the cart (VERY walkable course), the fairways are a little rough in spots (lift, clean and place approved) and I admit the tee boxes are pretty beat up (isn't that what tees are for). But the layout is real nice, close to championship quality, and the greens were just pristine today. Rolled in two 30' putts even. Since the course is a little overlooked, it's mainly regulars so I found the pace of play and friendliness of the people to be superb. Was matched with a regular player and we just had a heck of a time! 7am tee time, twosome following a couple groups and we still played in 3+30. I'm super glad I found this place and will gladly come back when visiting San Diego. Thank you Riverwalk for a real nice "river walk!"

Shaggy but fun layout, great value

May be a little underrated on Golf Advisor. I found the course to have a very fun, interesting layout. Blind shots, lots of terrain, water here and there, even streams mixed in. The tee boxes were admittedly shaggy and the greens did have some damage spots, but it in no way affected our round or our fun. In fact, I found the greens very nice and true, very rollable. I made several putts outside 15ft. Very nice area too, lots of nice houses along the course, but the course plays nicely away from them so they were never really a factor in our round. I ended up teeing off as a single behind several groups, so I layed back until a 2 some came up and joined me. A couple of locals, very fun time. I think we finished in under 4+30, but I was having so much fun I lost track. I tell you, for the price ($14 hot deal on a Thurs Afternoon), it was like stealing. Super great value and I'll definitely keep this course in mind next time I need a tee time in the area.

I felt spoiled playing here

Just an amazing course, amazing conditions, and a pretty decent bargain. This is more than I usually pay to play, so it was a special treat for me, and it felt special. It looks, feels, and plays like a regular PGA tour stop. I guess the only wish I would have is that they would have let my two-some go earlier than our 7:50am tee time. I know there was room for us, not sure why they wouldn't let us. Nonetheless we had a great time on a great course.

Worst value on Golf Now yet

Played Coral Creek and I have to say it was the worst golf value I have had on golf now yet. 2 rating for value. The course itself isn't all bad as far as courses go (or it would have been a 1 for value), it was everything else and the price. The golfnow price was $90, would have been a good value somewhere under $30. Not one staff member was nice or courteous, just the opposite. Felt like we walked into Shawshank with all the strict rules and staff barking orders. It was clear that this is one if those local places that only care about a certain brand of local player, so if you're not one, good luck! Pace of play was snail-like. Six-some of locals in front of us, so we skipped a hole to find ourselves behind a 5-some of locals, so we skipped another hole and it was ok after that. If you go, better byo drinks cause with covid, there isn't a single place to get a drink (unless you count the broken vending machine).
The course itself was ok. Plush, green, some memorable holes, decent greens were smooth, puttable and true. It was a little trashy and unkept around the edges, but would have been a pleasure at the right price/pace of play/customer care, but not at this price/conditions.

Should be rated higher

I don't know why this course isn't rated higher. I was very happy with all aspects of the course. From the arrival, to warmup, start, play, drinks at the turn, to finish, just a great time and great track. More details below if you want them, but let me just say here, best greens I've played all year. Just about perfect! Definitely worth playing.

Arrival was very welcoming and easy, with a nice drive up to the club house, club drop and parking. Painless check-in. Really liked the practice facility. Lots of places to warm up, chip, putt. Starter staff was great. Welcomed me, gave me a good briefing on the course, local rules and conditions, Sent me off solo and course was wide open on a weekday afternoon. Played B-C nines. I thought the course looked a little dried out, but it didn't affect play at all. I loved the layout, lots of challenges, and with the wind, quite a challenge. There were several 400+ yard par 4s I couldn't reach in 2 into the wind from the blue tees. And the greens, super. The speed was just about perfect and super honest roles. Not a bump on those greens yesterday. Plus they have a real quick and easy drink/snack shop at the turn with fully stocked bar.

Honestly, there was not one single detracting element to playing here and I think this course is way underrated on golfadvisor. And it has championship capable tees also so in my mind, it has all the characteristics of a 5-star course

Fun course

Looks like I get to be the first to review Moose Bay Hill course. Glad to do it cause I really liked it. I played both the Hill and the Creek 18s in the last two weeks - I thought the Creek layout was more dramatic and scenic, but the conditions much better on Hill.
But the Hill course is real nice too. It's a tale of two nines - the front mountainous and scenic, the back completely flat and much easier to walk. Lots of blind tee shots, nice vistas, greens pretty good, not real fast, mostly puttable. Decent value especially for an old retired AF guy like me since they have military rates being associated with the AF/Army base there. Pace of play not real fast, we were behind a very slow foursome, but I didn't have anything else to do so it didn't matter. Overall, fun day, nice course, food value, well worth playing.

Best course in town?

Very enjoyable round today at AGC. Was playing as a single, no tee time, no problem. Got paired up with two locals, one is a marshall there. They were great guys and it was great to play with someone who knows the course and everyone there. The course is in good shape, I wouldn't say excellent shape. Greens decent and puttable. Course walkable even though it wore me out. Very pretty layout, lots of blind tee shots, some memorable holes. Well worth playing if you're in Anchorage, from what I can tell is the best course in town, unless you want to drive an hour to Palmer or Settler's Bay.

Sad but true, I won't go back

It's a little sad to write this, because AzGrand (the old Phantom Horse) is such a fun little track and I know they're trying hard out there. I just went back today after many years away, and was pretty disappointed. As scenic as it gets w/the back nine through S. Mtn Park.
E ach hole has character, is so memorable, and the conditions really aren't bad even at the peak of summer. They even had a ranger out there monitoring pace of play. But they just make it so hard to play there. You can't tell where to go, there's no practice range, no club drop, it just isn't set up for local players. And with the new layout (well since Phantom Horse days) eliminating the most dramatic finishing hole in town, it's just not worth going back. I was going to bring my cousin from out of town out in a couple weeks but canceled after today. If you're a tourist looking for a fun day, this is for you. If you're a local, go play it once. You'll be glad you saw it and then decide it's not worth going back, like I just did. I think the course deserves an under 4 rating all things considered.

This is a follow up to my review. AZ Grand replied to my review and invited me to reach out directly so, as a local wanting to play here, I did. Talked to Pete and he was very interested in making things better. I think if they can make the arrival experience better it will make a huge difference. Pete said a lot of the problem has to do with Covid procedures, which I get. I'll give you guys another shot soon as this course is still one of the most fun courses in town. Thx for responding AZ Grand, it shows you care.

The course you play when there's nowhere else to play

Probably not real nice of me to say, because they are real nice out there at Las Colinas, but this is the course you play when there's nowhere else to play. It is a good track, not great, but not a goat track either. Conditions are good, not great, but very playable. The value is good, not great, because it doesn't cost a lot to play there. I have always been treated real nice by everyone so I know they are trying. As long as you're not expecting a pristine, manicured, luxury golf experience, you should do fine. And along the way you'll probably hear a Hank Williams song or something from 30 years ago blaring from one of the houses along the fairway (what does that tell you), so that could be a good thing or bad thing depending on your persuasion. All in all, playable when your favorite options aren't. Sorry guys, gotta be honest.

Stunning setting for golf

Sure is a lot of whining going on in the reviews about this course. I'll correct all that below if you are interested, but suffice it to say, this is simply a stunning setting for a fun "little" (as in fairly short) golf course that literally winds through the tropical forest at the base of the Ko'olau Mountains. I was paired up with two local native Hawaiians who, on their own, actually called it "Jurassic Park" (no joke) and said along with Turtle Bay is by far their favorite course on the island. Need I say more? Ok, I will below. 5 star overall rating for the backdrop and setting alone, the course itself being secondary. I've never seen a more impressive setting in my 40+years. I highly recommend it, just bring lots of balls and your patience for the slow, rich tourists playing whack-heck, and the "natural" but very playable course conditions and you'll marvel at this jewel.
So to correct the whiners...
Course Conditions: I agree that it is by no means a pristine or manicured resort level course. I call it "natural". The bermuda fairways didn't even look mown, but play like a short second cut of rough, all very much playable. As for muddy conditions, YOU'RE PLAYING IN A RAIN FOREST, HELLO!!! It is a fun if short track that winds up the foothills of the Ko'olau's, winding literally through tropical forests. Very beautiful. Just the 5 minute drive from #1 green to #2 tee alone is a veritable deep jungle tour itself. Most of the tee shots are blind, so it helped me a lot to play with locals who know the course and told me how to play it. You can hit driver on just about every hole (they did), but you better be precise, because any wayward shot is lost in the dense tropical forest. Very small greens require precise approaches, but the course can be had with precise irons off the tee toward the 150 pole then an accurate approach. Lots of little risk/reward type shots that keep the fun going.
Pace of play: dude, you're playing a tourist attraction course where the rich and painfully bad players play and lose tons of balls into the forest. If you can't be patient, enjoy the amazing scenery, and have a few while waiting for the groups ahead to clear, better go somewhere else (and miss out on an amazing experience).
Staff friendliness. I found them to be great. It was odd to be asked at the pro shop what I paid on GolfNow. I should have challenged him on that as to why it matters, but chose not to. But the guys controlling the start and the carts were welcoming, informative, and seemed glad to have me there.
Value for the money. Well, it all depends on what value you put on the most gorgeous setting you will ever see in golf. If you can't get over the "natural" conditions and slow play, you'll probably think it is a horrible value. If you can chill, play conservative, snap lots of pics of the natural beauty, you'll probably think it great. Of course I thought it was even better because I used a Hot Deal monthly round on it and was very richly rewarded.
BTW, my local playing partners told me that this course had been fairly recently purchased by foreign investors. So that could account for a lot of the condition issues. They said the name has been changed and the layout has been changed some. It didn't really affect me because I never played it under previous ownership.

Every bit worth the 4.6 avg rating

In town on a work trip and was very happy with the round at Prairie Lakes. Found it to be every bit worthy of the 4.6 avg rating and glowing reviews on golfnow (I realize I rated it an overall 4 but 4.6 isn't an option and didn't think it had that 5 star championship feel). We played right after a storm blew through early so the fairways were soggy but the greens had drained nicely and were very playable. Definitely a 5 star value as we walked for just $20 and played in UNDER 4 hours early on a Monday when all the club courses are closed (take that snooty clubs!). Lots of locals having a good time and all very friendly. And make sure you allow time for the 19th hole - I liked the fork-tender brisket better than the much ballyhooed Hard Eight and the self acclaimed "Almost World Famous" smoked sausage was a big hit! Definitely worth the time and price. Would definitely play here again give the chance.

Nice little jaunt

I rate this course a solid 3. Lots of folks working the clubhouse made it nice because you had all the help you needed. We took a cart so we could visit as we played - would be a challenge to walk as it has lots of terrain. Opening hole was a blind drive up a steep hill so right off the bat followed by a par 3 way down the hill. Pretty short layout and not real memorable holes but lots of nice trees and not bad care/condition of the course made for a nice 9 holes squeezed in late on a Saturday with my boy. Must be popular because the course was packed until late in the day. Beware because carts have to be in by 7:45pm so better be off by 3 to get a full round in and allow for slow play. But we met our objective with a nice easy 9 and was very pleasant round.

Pleasant Surprise!

Dropped in to play Coronado Muni cause the Navy base course was closed and might I say I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was standard muni matter-of-fact but not necessarily unfriendly, and did a good job of matching me up with two other singles to tee off promptly. Very enjoyable layout and very walkable. Some nice challenges but plenty of room to miss - front nine has nice views of the Coronado bridge and back nine very scenic with the Del and marina in the background as it plays along the water. Lots of sun once the fog burned off, nice and cool with gentle breezes. Local players in my group were very friendly and fun to play with. I actually enjoyed this round much more than the two I played at Torrey which were way more expensive. I think it's definitely worth playing, if you can get a tee time because it's pretty popular. Played in under 4 hours too which was nice. 4 stars just because it is a muni and not necessarily top resort quality, but still a real treat.

Exceeded my expectations

Thought I'd head up to Mirimichi to see what all the hubbub is about (with the Justin Timberlake connection and all). I must say it exceeded my expectations. I thought it was inviting and plush, great track, good vale and will definitely go back! Keep reading if you want details.
It's a little out of the way but not too hard to find. Entering the course is nice, with a nice clubhouse and practice area. You can't even see the course from the clubhouse because it winds back over a little hill and opens up into a wide area framed around a nice lake w/fountain giving it a nice setting. The front nine plays around that central lake and although fairly compact, I felt like the holes were laid out nicely so it doesn't feel crowded. Well cared for, challenging but fair layout and nice greens. The back 9 felt a little more scenic. Joined up with a nice group of three who know the course - just had a great time. Friendly, inviting staff made me feel welcome and glad to be there. Course was busy but we still played in 4 hours which was nice. Lots of memorable, challenging holes and I found the course to be well cared for with a lot of nice little extras that show care and attention. Definitely worth the effort and price. Solid 3

I think a 4.2 rating is too high. Felt like a solid 3 to me. Not much to choose from in the Pro Shop, only dining was a snack counter, so not much in the way of facilities. The course was ok. The holes kind of wind all around each other which was a little odd. You can tell it's getting run down and marginally maintained with cart paths sinking and bridges wearing, bunkers poorly maintained. The greens were good however and super fast. The other bright spot was they were very friendly and I liked the way they controlled the starting - clear announcements over speaker system. It was an enjoyable albeit slightly lesser quality round.

Just love Tunics Nat'l

Ok so my review might be a little biased because I absolutely love Tunica National, but was super happy to get to play there yesterday. I was especially grateful because the course was soaked and sloppy, but VERY playable, and walkable, and Bob kept play going, which shows his mindset. He's a pro's pro, makes things happen to get the golf in. The only thing I don't like about Bob is he's so busy I never get to talk to him. But he's great. I like the grill too. The folks in there are super nice and helpful. They made me a great club sandwich. I was a little disappointed in the guy working the pro shop. As many times as I've been there he acted like I was a complete stranger. Maybe because I'm not a member, I don't know. But if you go play Tunica Nat'l, bring your A game. It's relentless in it's hazards and treacherous on the greens, just like I like it!

The atmosphere makes it

Seville is a solid standby when I need a place to play. To be honest, the course itself is not real memorable. Wide open, not many trees or shade, fairly easy to play. For me, the things that make Seville worth playing are the conditions are always very good and especially the atmosphere they create there. I have always felt welcome, valued, and cared for, from the folks in the golf shop, to the welcome in the bar, even the guys downstairs who tuned a couple clubs for me. The only negative for me is it kills my handicap because I always score so low out there my handicap goes lower than I can handle at most other courses!

Really Enjoyable

I really enjoyed Irene today. Very nice course. Mature, well cared for grounds. Solid layout with a lot of memorable holes. Not real long, not a lot of trouble spots, fairly tight fairways but still can miss and have a shot. Very welcoming staff, actually got us off early. Greens are subtle-tricky, were very playable despite still recovering from aerating. Nice price - will definitely want to play again. Just a real enjoyable round. Thanks Irene!
