Twin Creeks Golf Course
Played On 08/04/2018Perfect greens
The course was in great shape. Fairways were nicely cut, rough was lush for this time of year, and the greens rolled quick and true. Several greens had the look of Open courses, but they were still receptive and smooth. Only complaint was the lack of on course water/or beverage cart on the back nine. Sub 4hr round.
Plantation Resort Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2018Value play
As always, this course is consistent and one of the top values in DFW. Overnight rains left it a little damp, but not soggy. Greens a little slow, but rolled true.
Twin Creeks Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2017Where is the hydration?
Only 2 negatives of this round: (1) The beverage cart never passed us a single time during the 5 hour round [we flagged her down once when she was on the other nine]; (2) The 5 hour round - there was a 4-some of hackers with no one in front of them for at least 2 holes, we pulled up to the tee several times when they were walking off but they made no effort to wave us through.
In summary, 5 hour round with no beverage cart and no marshal - everything else was great, particularly the clubhouse hot dog.
The Courses at Watters Creek - Traditions Course
Played On 08/26/2017Longer than expected
Course drained well from the recent rains. I never ran in to any casual water. I'm not sure if it was the wet fairways or if the course played a little longer than the numbers. I'm only a 250-260 driver of the ball, but I had a lot of 5 & 4 irons into greens. I'd like to play again when the fairways are more dry to see if that holds up.
Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2017Wet, but fun
I played after a decent amount of rain; however, the course was still in great condition. The greens were still rolling well and the fairways were dry - for the most part. I can't wait to play the course under dry conditions.
Twin Creeks Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2017Great Layout
My first time playing. I had a great day of driving the ball (86% of fairways), so I didn't experience the rough much. However, it looked like it could be challenging. The greens were a little spongy and inconsistent, but they rolled true. Will definitely play again.
The Golf Club at Champions Circle
Played On 10/22/2016Harder than I remember
Wonderful afternoon for golf. The last time I played this course (1-2 years ago), the rough, fairways, and greens were in poor condition. Fast forward to last weekend and all three are excellent. The rough is grown in enough to actually penalize you if you veer of target; and at this course those targets are sometimes small. The greens were rolling true at a decent pace. Course (from the 2nd tees) is rather short, but that is offset by the tight fairways and undulating greens.
Texas Woman's University Golf Course
Played On 10/16/2016Greatest Value in the Area
This course is in the best shape I have seen it in the 4 years I have played it (about once per year). The small greens and semi-narrow fairways make you think about each shot like a chess match. I know it is not a very difficult course overall due to the short distances; however, if TWU would invest in it, it could be a great 9 hole or par 3 course. I understand that it will be closing soon, and I'm sad that I won't have a place to take my kids to golf anymore. All other courses are too crowded to allow kids to play and learn the game.
Texas Rangers Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2016No Driver Needed
The layout of the course is excellent. It will challenge you to hit all types of shots. On the back nine, consider whether the driver is the best option. If you have a strong mid-iron game, try a long iron or hybrid off the tee for better placement. The greens were in rough shape, but they rolled fairly well. Very interested to play the course again after the renovation.
Tour 18 Dallas
Played On 05/29/2016Wet and Sandy
Was expecting some wetness due to the recent rains and was okay experiencing some showers during the round. However, there was no notification or alert as to the greens being recently aerated and bumpy. Also, some fairways were in bad shape and the greens were hit or miss. Staff was very friendly and I love the course layout. But, for the price it is hard for me to keep coming back without some better turf management. Once every 3-5 years is all I can handle, as that is usually enough time for me to forget my prior disappointment.
Hawk's Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2015Poor condition, but high potential
First time playing. The course design is excellent requiring a multitude of different shots to be successful. However, we played after some recent aeration. Therefore, each putt hopped multiple times on its way to the hole and approach shots that landed in the sanded pits of despair would spin in uncontrollable directions. But, even the fairways and rough were not up to the value paid for this course (See Trails of Frisco for great value). I don't like being on a bare patch when I miss the green by a few feet. Final Thought: Great course design, both hole by hole and on the greens; Poor course condition, but maybe it's a rough time right now.
Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
Played On 06/07/2015Risk/Reward
First time playing this course after a recommendation from a friend. After all of the recent rain, this course was still in very good shape. Some greens had dead spots, but this did not really affect play. This course is not too long, however, tee shot placement is important. I hit several 3-woods and long irons off of tees to leave me either 100 or 150. Pace of play was good, staff was friendly, and value was great!
SugarTree Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2014Vertically Challenged
I had not played this course since 2003 and that was during a scramble tournament. I titled this review "Vertically Challenged" because not only do you have to horizontally navigate this course, but vertically as well. What I mean by that is even though you are in the fairway, your position may be affected by overhanging trees. Several times I hit tee shots (from the tips) that I felt good about initially, only to find that I was on the "wrong side" of the fairway for a clear approach. That being said, the course was in very good shape. The greens were rolling true at an average speed (even with the recent rains). I hate when I have a poor score because of bad play, but I don't mind a higher score due to a difficult course. This was the latter. I was pleasantly surprised and will make the 2 hour journey again next year.
The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 08/03/2014Second time not as good
We were hoping with the rain the previous week, they might cut the greens a little closer. They still rolled true, but were slower than expected. The course is always in great shape (especially the practice facilities), but after you get over the allure of the historic nature of the holes, it is not a very tough course. As long as your short game is in gear, you can miss some fairways (not too far) and still shoot a good score. We'll be back, but only at the cheaper afternoon price.
Plantation Resort Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2014Great Value
Great value for $25. The course is in as good of condition as other more expensive courses in the area. Greens were in great shape, but rolled a little slow (like all the other courses in the area). Either I am just unlucky or the trees in the rough were strategically placed well enough to make me pitch out when I missed the fairway taking birdie out of play.
Frisco Lakes Golf Club
Played On 7/30/2013Know the greens
This course was a quick round (it was a Tuesday). The holes were pretty straight-forward with no big surprises. The fairways and greens rolled relatively fast and were very smooth. The tricky part was the greens. You really need to play with someone who knows were all of the mounds and valleys are, not to mention the false fronts. Great course overall! I will play again.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 7/13/2013Large greens
Course was in great shape! Links style course with a abundance of bunkers. Not too much trouble (ie water hazards, OB, Gunch). Accurate drivers will have an opportunity to hit an abundance of greens, but be aware of the pin location to avoid being on the wrong tier. 3-putts a plenty!
The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
Played On 7/6/2013Tougher than expected
The course was in great shape. The greens will hold full long iron shots and allow you to spin the ball towards tough pin placements. Tee shots always give you aggressive and safe options with well placed shots paying off. On the other hand, approach shots not as forgiving with trouble often on all 4 sides. I will play again because I love a good challenge.
