I will not be coming back

I have been looking for a course within 20-30 miles of house that I could regularly play that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I paid $18 + $10 cart fee for a 5:40 tee time and was playing by myself. I got to the facility early to hit some balls at the range and it was there I knew there might be a problem.

First and foremost - a medium bucket of balls cost me $16, almost as much as the twilight walking fee for the course was. But my two biggest issues were many of the balls that were loaded into my basket were broken. As in the casing was cracked or just missing in places. The second issue is they were out of water. I went to pay for a couple of bottles of water and all they had was booze, and a shoddy selection at that.

I was then told I needed to drive to a different parking lot to get my round started, which wasn't a big deal. However, the pro shop is in rough shape. I had to check in through a barely cracked open window and almost missed my tee time because no one was at the desk. When someone did finally come they answered the phone and I had to wait another 5 or so minutes. I was able to buy some water and some tees and got my round started.

On the first hole, I hit a drive down the right side of the fairway that ended up rolling in to the "rough." Here is my biggest issue with the course. I lost the ball because the grass is so tall/thick that you almost need to be over the top of your ball to find it. This goes for balls in the fairway and balls in the rough. In addition, there was thatch throughout the course which made it even thicker and made finding drives, even in the fairway, pretty hard to find. The bunkers don't have sand in them, instead there is rocky fill type dirt. I hit 1 ball into the fairway on the 5th hole and refused to hit the ball out of it because there were so many rocks - I didn't want to damage my club.

Even though I was riding and playing by myself, it took me 2.5 hours to play the front nine. That isn't really the courses fault. There was a two-some in front of me playing, what it appeared to be, their first round of golf. In front of them was a single player who was walking.

"You get what you pay for" rings loud in clear when you play here. In my opinion, if they could manicure the grass better, the course would be playable and I might return at the price I paid, but I lost atleast 4 balls on drives I hit into the fairway. It's unacceptable.

My saving grace last night wasn't anything that happened on the course, although I had a decent round. There is buona beef directly across the street which I stopped in for dinner. Had that beacon of hope not been there, my recollection of the course would likely be even worse.

First time playing - excellent condition!

I played in a foursome on Saturday 5/30. We teed off at 4PM and while the course was busy we never felt rushed and never had to wait to tee off. The course was in SUPERB condition. This was my first round since corona virus so it was nice to get outside and get a round in. I was able to hit a bucket of balls and get in some putting practice prior to our round, which is always nice.

The weather was perfect.

One small gripe is the amount of tall fescue type grass that is around the course specifically around the greens. I hit two balls that landed on the green and rolled into the tall grass and it is extremely difficult to find once it is in there unless you get lucky. With that said, I decided how to approach certain shots because of that, which adds to the challenge which, in my opinion, is a good thing. Our foursome was able to finish 18 in about 3:45.

Staff in the pro-shop was friendly and helpful. I bought a new glove and some tees. Downstairs in the bar I had some homemade trail mix (the addition of dried bananas is a revelation!) and packed up a 6 pack of white claws.

I would love to come back again - thanks!
