About
Variety is the spice of life. I enjoy playing new courses and exploring what they have to offer. To date I've played 544 different courses, from Pebble Beach to St. Andrews. I have also played every public course in New Jersey and many in the surrounding states. I'm always looking for somewhere new to play. @aol.com

Jack Frost National Golf Course
Played On 05/23/2016Great Deal!!!
It's a fun course to play. Wide fairway even though it's through the forest. Ther are no parallel holes, so each hole is all by its self, nice. It plays shorter than the yardage indicates. Entire course was in good condition.
Greens were a challenge, because the course is rolling they were difficult to read. "The Deal" $38 for senior w/cart and a good lunch and drink (soda or beer).
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 05/21/2016Ridge/Links
3 nines here. Ridge and Pines are the best. More playable than the Links. Course in good condition, although greens were a little bumpy. Just didn't enjoy the Links with it's blind shots and cart path only on some holes. Just off the fairways is heavy rough, beyond that not much chance for a decent lie.
McCullough's Emerald Golf Links
Played On 05/17/2016A Unique New Jersey Course
This course is fun to play. No trees, but there's trouble off the fairways. There are some blind shots off the tee. The greens are exciting to putt. You don't find too many greens like these on public courses in New Jersey. They are fast and very undulating with great contours. Favorite holes, #7 par 4 with a split fairway, go left if you dare or play safe to the right. #8 par 4 with elevated tee nd a fairway that doglegs right and water down the left. # 15 plays down into a valley with a sharp dogleg right. It's short, but there is really nowhere to bail out.
Harbor Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2016Always Enjoyable
Good conditions all around. Great price for the area.
What you see is what you get and the greens are fast and fun. Favorite hole is #12 short par 4 with forced carry over a pond from the Tee.
Heron Glen Golf Course
Played On 05/14/2016Always Enjoyable
Course was in great shape. Greens, Tees, and Fairways all good. Favorite holes are #6, a short par4 with approach over hazard.#13, par 5 with forced carry on tee shot and second shot, and #16 another great par 5, where positioning your ball for optimum results is required.
Stone Harbor Golf Club
Played On 05/09/2016Designed by Desmond Muirhead
Very narrow fairways, defined by mounding on both sides. This leads to some blind shots. There is plenty of water too. But there are some very exciting holes. Especially # 6, a par 4 with its split fairway, the one on the right is an island. #7 is a par 3 with an island green. And # 18, a shorter par 4 with a forced carry over water to the green.
Oak Hill Golf Club
Played On 05/02/2016It's all about the Greens
William and David Gordon design this course in 1964 and it is still a great challenge. Enjoyable to play with it's rolling terrain. It's all about the approach shots and where to put it on the greens. You do not want a down hill putt, so keep it below the hole. The greens are very fast! #15 was a bear, 215 yds up hill. This course is private, but if get the chance, take it.
Bayside Resort Golf Club
Played On 04/26/2016Very Challenging
There is not a straight hole on the course because of all the hazards that cut into the fairways. Sometimes you have to play laterally or away from the hole. The first 9 does not play back to the clubhouse, but there is a halfway house between #8 and #14. Look for the eagles nest on the right side of #14. Music on the practice range, nice touch. Also, look for coupons in local magazines or flyers for discounts.
Baywood Greens
Played On 04/25/2016The Best In Delaware
In my humble opinion. Everything here is first class. It is a fun, playable course with water on 11 holes. Special detail to plants, shrubbery, and flowers (not necassary, but nice). My favorite hole, all of them but, my very favorites were #14, par 4 with split fairway and the left side being an island. #15 uphill par 3 and #16 par 5 with forced carry over pond and again on you approach shot. OK food. Staff was friendly. Even the practice ranch was special.
Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club - Grizzly/Kodiak Course
Played On 04/24/2016Now I Know...
...what the pros must have to deal with. The fairways were ample, but your shots to the greens were treacherous. Greens were slightly elevated with closely mowed run off areas on all sides. Now you’re on these undulating green that were running 12 on the stimpmeter (I asked). There are 3 nines here, I played Grizzly to Black Bear. Favorite hole was the #3, short par 4 on the grizzly, cape hole around pond. Food was good and the staff very friendly. Play it after 2pm for a reduced rate.
Pocono Farms Golf Course
Played On 04/16/2016Bring your A game
Fairways are tight and treee lined. Keeping your ball in the fairways are a must. No forgiveness for errant tee shots. Would enjoy playing here again. No parallel holes as the course weaves through the woods was a big plus. All the greens were very interesting, quick and undulated. My favorite holes were #4, Par 4 with 2nd shot over the lake. #8 long a par 3, but it was all downhill. And #17, a shoerter par5 with water down the right side.
Stanton Ridge Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/11/2016What you see is what you get!
Nothing trickey here, you can see it all from the tee. Ample fairways, some water and very interesting greens. Plenty of undulations and on the quick side.
My Favorite holes were #3, Par 4 with forced carry over the pond and #4, short par 4 with cross bunkers.
Warrenbrook Golf Course
Played On 04/06/2016A mystery
I understand aeration but, why would you aerate in December, when the grass does not grow and have lousy greens until the middle of May. Do not play here until then, any putt over 12 inches was pure luck. it is still a fun layout and enjoyable to play when conditions are better. Slow play, no ranger, and bring food and drink as there is none there.
Royce Brook Golf Club - West Golf Course
Played On 04/02/2016It's all good man!
Course was in great shape and we played in the rain.
The greens ran quick and true. Big wide fairways.
approach shots to the green are key. It's just a little pricey.
Pound Ridge Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2016Not for the high handicapper
The course was in beautiful condition. It is a difficult. Tight fairways with no forgiveness. Mounding or hugh bunkers on either side. Some forced carries. And then you reach the green and they are very large, undulating, and fast. Bring extra balls and some nourishment, no restaurant. Very pricey too.
Hopewell Valley Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/23/2016Strong Challenge
The course was in good condition. The course is "sneaky long", don't rely on the yardage, it plays longer than you think. This course will be very difficult during the summer when the rough is in and the greens are quicker. This is a private club looking for new members and is allowing some limited outside play.
Take advantage if you can.
Blue Heron Pines Golf Club
Played On 03/19/2016Terrific Challenge
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Every hole makes you think on every shot. Where to place your T-ball and how to approach the green. Favorite holes #7 short par 4, but place your t-shot to avoid the cross bunker. #11 short par 3, over a pond and fronted by bunkers. And #14, a par 5 with it's own version of Pine Valley's Hells half acre.
Colts Neck Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2016Good News
All the Tees and Greens were open. The course was in great shape, especially for this time of year. Some of the tees were a little uneven and scruffy, but no big deal. Favorite hole is the 5th, dogleg right. Long forced carry to a fairway with a bunker in the middle. Bite off as much as you can chew to the right or play safer to the left. Then it's a short iron in.
Rutgers University Golf Course
Played On 03/09/2016Spring is here!
Rutgers just opened for the season and is in terrific shape, as usual. The course was packed, but no delays.
you always finish under 4 hours.
Quail Brook Golf Course
Played On 03/01/2016First Round of the Year
A cool breezy day, course was in good condition. It was easy to get out as ther were not many playing which helped pace of play. The greens were exceptional for this time of year.
I meant practice "range".
