Darby Creek Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2015Ugh..Ohio weather
First off this review might be a little unfair, but this is because it was 45 degrees and raining all day, its Ohio, can't expect much. At Darby Creek the front and back differ, where the front is links style, which I prefer, and the back is American style. I did much better on the front by 10 strokes, its wasn't a good score today. Anyway the green on hole 13 was soaking wet, you could see there would be standing water any minute, that wasn't a good sign. The course had lots of bunkers, so keep that in mind. Afterwards, I went into the pro shop and found a double dozen of Nike Mojos for $16 what a steal! And the guy behind the counter picked up the 17 cents in tax, just a little extra friendliness. If the weather was different I'm sure I would love this course.
Ashland Golf Club
Played On 09/21/2015Wish I played here more often
Ashland Golf Club is probably my favorite course in Northern Ohio. The course is short great for walking, some easy holes, but some very difficult holes. The greens break just the way they look like they should and have great speed. Ashland is a great course with great staff.
Oakhaven Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2015Nice course
I have played Oakhaven before but it was more than a year ago. This course is fun to play with challenging greens and very thick rough. One thing I don't like about Oakhaven is there is only one short (under 190) par 3. With me not being able to hit my driver more than 190, I had to get an up and down on almost every par 3. Overall Oakhaven is a great place for practice and play.
Royal American Links Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2015Fun course
This was my first time playing Royal American, and it was pretty fun after it stopped raining and lightninging. I did have one of my worst rounds in a while here but if I didn't hit six balls in the water, it wouldn't have been that bad. Even after some rain the greens were still pretty fast. After the round I went to get something to eat, and it was 3.25 for a hot dog. I've never seen a hot dog that much overpriced. Anyway it still was pretty good. With everything I said the round was pretty fun and I hope to come back soon.
Vernon View Golf Course
Played On 08/14/2015Either too wet or too dry
Hiawatha is a good course if you are a beginner, but if you have played nicer courses this will seem harder than those nicer courses. When it rains, puddles are everywhere and greens are super slow and you chunk almost every shot. When it doesn't rain the fairways do have good roll, but it is impossible to get under the ball, I had 3 holes with 3 chips because you can't get under the ball. The crouch family that owns the course is very nice and the food in the clubhouse is pretty good. If you are just looking for a good time, that can be had here.
Great review! Note: You're not supposed to "get under the ball". You're supposed to strike ball-first, then take the divot forward of the ball.
Golf Club of Dublin
Played On 08/12/2015Fun, hard, and too much walking
As a golfer with a big slice links style is for me. But even with the wide fairways, the water on 17 out of 18 holes is hard to deal with. And the bunkers make you feel like you are playing at The Open but some are too small you can't stand in them. Another thing about The Golf Club of Dublin is that there is alot of space between greens to tee boxes. This is not a course for walkers, even though the distance of the actual course is 7,000 and some yards you will be walking at least 9,000 yards. With all my complaints this was a pretty good round for me and it was very fun.
Clover Valley Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2015Difficult greens
As the title says the greens were very challenging, but I guess that's what the course wants. The course is fun to play with friends but if you are trying to get better then you might get a little frustrated. Food is a little expensive but its a golf course what do you expect. Overall this course is fun to play but very challenging.
Lukestr - thank you for taking the time to review our course. We appreciate the feedback on the greens and hole #9. We can be a bit challenging but we're glad you found us to be enjoyable as well! Thank you again!
Chapel Hill Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2015Very nice golf course
Chapel Hill is the best golf course in Mount Vernon. The greens are nice and the fairways aren't bare like other courses in the area. One thing I haven't liked the last few times I have played there is that the fairways are very hard especially on the front nine, its hard to use my wedges when i cant get under the ball much, but it does help the ball roll more in the fairway. Overall Chapel Hill is a very nice course in Mount Vernon.
Apple Valley Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2015Best public course in Central Ohio
Where to begin? Apple Valley Golf Course is by far the best public course in Central Ohio. The course is in great shape besides a couple spots on holes 9 and 10. The greens are probably the most challenging part of the course, they are very fast and putts will lip out. The pace of play might be a little slow but who can blame them for coming to this course. If you want to have a great round at a great course for a good price come here.
Irish Hills Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2015Ok
Irish Hills is not my favorite golf course in town.
I just thought that the course was not very well kept and too many trees on the front. But maybe I didn't like the course is because after 7 holes it started down pouring, and we had to leave. This is where carts with roofs would come in handy, but I do realize that the tunnel is very small so they can't have carts going in that. But one idea is to put some carts on the back nine and some carts on the front nine, with roofs, but oh well. Overall I wouldn't recommend Irish Hills to anyone while they can play at Hiawatha or Chapel Hill for about the same price.
I'm sorry that you were not able to complete your round when you were here. We would to have you back to play the entire course! Email us and we will make sure that happens. support@irishhillsgolfclub.com
