Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
Played On 03/09/2017What happened?
I played this course approximately 10 years ago at about the time it was playing host to the made-for-television "Skin's Game". I was blown away by the fact that mere amateurs were even allowed to play the course, it was so well conditioned with a extremely friendly staff and enjoyable to play.
Well, I don't know what happened , probably some money issues but it has to have seen a lot of misery to be it such ragged shape. As to the staff, let's just say, no one had a smile on their faces. Too bad but I would forecast that it will desert again in a few years.
Amery Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2014What a difference!
Two days before this round I played one of the most tricked up courses in the state of Wisconsin. I had never played either before but the Amery GC turned out to be a most pleasant suprise rather than the frustrating experience I had on the previous course. Amery is a well thought out course and takes advantage of the area's terrain rather than inventing holes. I have played on quite a few of the so-called Top 100 course in this country and I have never played on better greens. The Greenskeeper at Amery deserves any kudo's he may get. In fact he could easily be the GK at any of the high-buck couses anywhere in the country. I beat my handicap on this course but it wasn't due to any recently obtained skill I somehow acquired, it was the overall fairness and play of this fine course.
St. Croix National Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2014What was I thinking???
This has to be the most tricked up golf course I have ever played. Long carries over steep hills, blind shots, radically evelvated par 3's and add to this witches brew, extremely slow play w/o ranger in sight. Before I played here a friend told me I would be insane to play here that's why I am writing this review from a rubber room. If you happen to know a haughty self-centered golf braggert send him here if you want to utterly destroy his or her self image.
Hayward National Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2014HAYWARD NATIONAL
This course looks like it was probably a good layout and was probably build to attract the summer tourists staying in the Hayward area so therefore it is a fairly forgiving course. The main concern is the course maintenance which has not been kept up to it's original overall condition. The one exception is that the greens were in excellent shape. If I return to the Hayward area in the future I would definitely choose to play the Hayward GC which is very good track.
Spooner Golf Club
Played On 7/11/2013Course needs special attention to the greens.
I have been playing this course off and on for the past 30 years and except for a couple of years under some questionable management several years ago the course has always been on my top 5 list which includes many courses around the country. I have only two minor(?) complaints: Please adhere to the 8 minute between tee-times policy, too many times we will have groups teeing off in less than 2 minute off the 1st tee. It backs up the course from the get-go and we feel pushed all the way through the 18 holes.
. I understand that the course has experienced a hard winter but the greens on some holes have not fully recovered. Spooner is a great course and many people who play it for the first time find it suprisingly fun but also a challenge for a course in NW Wisconsin.
Canyon Springs Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2013Hilly, up and down variations, tough but fair. A very well thought out course.
I played this course about 10 years ago and it immediately became one of my favorite U S courses. It has deterioated to some degree but a good spring housecleaning would probably bring it back to, in my opinion, the best course in the San Antonio area and I have played alot of the so-called "primo" courses there.
Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course
Played On 03/19/2013This course was fun to play. A lot of doglegs as well as many beautiful views.
Cedar Creek is a course with many suprises. My first look at the course I was convinced that I wasn't going to like it. The Clubhouse appeared to be very shop worn and needed a refurb. The course itself turned out to be a very pretty course with some great scenery and interesting shots even if you wind up in the fairway on your drive. Very hilly but well laid out. The only unfortunate thing is that it needs a lot of attention to be put back into a 4 star course condition. I reccomend this course based on playability alone.
Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course
Played On 03/13/2013Another course among many now in the USA that are slowly dying.
It appears to have been a fun layout in it's prime but it's evident that they are trying to cut expenses by letting some past maintenance procedures go by the wayside. i.e. Old ballwashers, beat up tee boxes, didn't overseed this year, etc. Too bad....so sad.
Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort
Played On 03/10/2013I hope that George uses a wad of his Pesos to really refurbish these 3 courses because the overall layout of these courses is spectacular.
The overall layout of these courses provide some excellent views and the elevation changes provide a opportunity to test a golfer's shot making ability. Many shots require fairly long carries over some pretty gnarly areas. Fun courses to play but bring a lot of balls if you are a 10+ handicap. I wish that they would have overseeded the fairways for winter/spring play.
Hibiscus Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2013Hibiscus is well past it's hay day. I'm sure that back in the 50's it was ranked as one of the courses to play in Naples. Too bad, glory days r gone!
Friendly staff but Hibiscus is a Delta Dawn, well past it's prime. It probably was a highly ranked course in it's day. Kind of sad to see a dying course trying desperately to recapture it's looks.
