To me, the course is very challenging. That said, the rough was a little longer than it should be (and yes, I should hit the ball to the fairway), to the point you couldn’t see the ball if it was more than 10 feet away. This, I believe contributed to a little longer round, just looking for my playing partners golf balls or my own.
Later in the season I’ll give this course another shot, it’s a challenge and I think I can do better than I did.
Eastmoreland Golf Course

Five and a half hours, so enough about that.
The greens were in incredible shape, fast and rolled true. Rough was a little long, that made for difficulty finding the ball if I strayed off the fairway. In general, this is a great course— but pace of play kills any momentum you can build off of a good hole.

No fault of the course, it was soft and spongy because of all the rain in April.
I enjoy this course, it usually has open tee times late in the week— there’s fun holes, and some challenging ones. Some holes can be repetitive, but in general I think this course is a good value.

The greens were in good shape, some brown here and there from tee to green— but overall a good value.

Yes, golfing on Easter may have contributed to why there was no one, and I mean no one on the course today. Walking we played in 3:40– not bad. I like this course, I’m not sure why it doesn’t get played more often. I think it has some unique holes, and some legitimate birdie holes along with holes you’re glad to take par on. I’ll say this, the first 3 holes are brutes— no easing into your game there.
Heron Lakes Golf Club - Greenback Course
Played On 07/19/2020Warm Day
We’ve had a stretch of warm weather and the fairways ran fast. The greens in general were firm making it tough to get at some of the pins, yet a few greens were receptive to approach shots and would hit and stick.
All in all the course played well and is a fair test. 18 holes in 4:15
Eastmoreland Golf Course
Played On 07/04/2019Great Value (even for a Muni)
The course has unique holes, and can make you use every club in the bag. 13 is a par 5 with a forced carry 2nd shot, that Eastmoreland is known for— and 17 is about as close to an island green as you’ll get in Portland.
My round on 7/4/19 was less than 4.5hrs and never really had long wait times on the tee boxes. You will score well if your a straight hitter, and if your not, you’ll perfect your recovery shots by the end of the round.
This is a very good municipal course.
