Torres Blancas Golf Club
Played On 01/28/2015Interesting and forgiving
My wife and I played a twilight round. Got paired up with someone from my home town in Wisconsin, which helped make the round bearable. It played SSLLOOOWW. Managed to get in 14 holes 4 hours. The course was really backed up. The course had over-seeding which is struggling to take hold. However, several errant shots remained in play and allowed good recovery shots. Lots of roll everywhere. The greens were rough, bumpy, and slow. The rough had plenty of bare spots. It shows signs of heavy use.

If this is a Robert Trent Jones design he must have done it when he was a kid. I guess the bunkers, which are fairly well placed and numerous (and large) are typical of his design but beyond that it was very straight forward. The course condition was very poor. They mentioned that they had fungus problems and the greens were very rough. The rest of the course was rough too. You were constantly dodging pot holes all over the course. Over seeding hadn't established much at all so bare lies was the common condition. I prefer grass.

We (2-some) played in under 3 hours as we had the course to ourselves (first off). Would have been quicker except the leaves were hiding the balls!
The course is a good value with a decent variety for the average golfer. It may play a bit short for some.
The greens are healing and played mostly true but a bit bouncy. Fairways and tees in good shape.
Glen Cairn Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014Challenging but in poor condition
Played as a two-some. Passed two groups but a third wouldn't let us through for 6 holes on the back. That was very frustrating as they were playing quite slow. The tees were beat up and the fairways were hard to distinguish from the rough. The greens had damage but rolled true enough. The layout is quite interesting in places, with a few more blind shots than I care for. Playing it frequently would help to understand where a lay-up or shorter club off the tee would prove valuable. All in all a decent value at a discounted price.
