The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2022Nice Course and Staff, Members are Impatient and Entitled
Thr staff in the clubhouse was helpful, respectful, and friendly. The grill has good food and friendly bartenders.I golfered 2 rounds in a week at the course and really like it. It was very busy both weekend days and we were waiting on most tee boxes. During one round we were hit into by members (they had custom carts) and during the other the group behind us complained that they had gotten hit into several times as well. When I told one player that they hit into us, he was unappologetic and acted as if it was our fault. Although there are several blind tee shots, the GPS displays the location of all carts on the hole.
I am not sure why the members open the course to non-members, then treat them poorly. I play 80-100 rounds per year and this is some of the most unusual course behavior I have encountered. I suggest that the course either go fully private (if the members can afford it?) or have a talk with the members about their behavior towards others on the course.
Rum River Hills Golf Club
Played On 09/05/2021Fun Course in Tough Shape
The dry then wet weather has resulted in the fairways being patchy and thin. Often the ball would be resting on mud or very thin grass. We played winter rules and ended up placing many shots due to poor grass. I really like the layout and it is a fun course but the condition of the course made the round less fun.
Nags Head Golf Links
Played On 07/28/2017Soggy weather bu course is holding up OK.
They have had tons of rain lately and there was some casual water on th he course. Otherwise it was in good condition and the greens rolled nice.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 02/06/2017Water not limited to ponds, entire course wet.
When you pay a premium and go to a Troon course you have an elevated expectation of atmosphere, experience, and golf course conditions. After having played Maderas (San Diego), Quintero the day before, and AK Chin Southern Dunes in the morning, I was excited to try Ocotillo, another Troon Course.
Golf:
I was very disappointed to find that the quality of the course was FAR below the other Troon Courses. The course layout was nice but tee boxes fairways, and greens were soggy. It was like a Midwestern municipal course after a week of rain. Every shot felt like I was hitting off a wet sponge and more than a few times I had to drop because of casual water.
(1)As we drove up we waited at the bag drop and no one came to take our clubs. We ended up unloading our own clubs and carrying them to the bag stand.
(2)I wanted a quick bite to eat at the restaurant bar and ordered a sandwhich. I was not offered a plate and ended up eating my sandwhich out of the plastic wrap while sitting at the bar
(3)While on the putting green players were asking each other where the starter was. There was no one there to tell players which of the 3 9's to start on. We waited for a starter until after our tee time and he found us and indicated that the cart guys wrote down the wrong cart number. We started 10 minutes late and we had a plane to catch later in the day.
(4) The players we were paired with talked the entire 18 holes, during every shot, even while on the green.
I golf on municipal golf courses and treat myself to "resort" courses while on vacation. I have higher expectations for a Troon course. Nothing about the experience, indicated to me that I was at a "resort" course. This is not the Troon golf experience I have come to know at their other courses. If you are expecting a day at your soggy municipal golf course you will be pleased, but if you are expecting great course condition, mindful and considerate service, and attention to detail, there are plenty of other options in the area.
Trump National Doral Miami - Red Tiger Course
Played On 12/25/2016Great Course, Great Condition
Everything about the experience was fantastic. From the time you drive up, to the facility, to the people, a truly luxurious experience. The greens were tru and were rolling great. The tee boxes were excellent. The red course is shorter than the blue course but has more variety in the course. In the afternoon it gets a little breezy so be ready. Like any resort there are some fees that you will have to pay (valet $20), but if you can afford to play at Coral than you can afford it.
West at Jacaranda Golf Club
Played On 12/24/2016Great to the price paid
First I have to say I paid $22 to play which will definitely play a part in my review. The condition of the course was good and I really liked the layout and greens. The turf however was a bit mushy on two or three holes and some of the tee boxes were a little beat up. That being said, the course was a fun course and I really enjoyed the golf. Unrelated to the actual golf; the course has a resort appearance as you drive up but as you approach the club house it feels more like a municipal golf course. The staff is nice and helpful, I would play there again.
Trump National Doral Miami - Blue Monster Course
Played On 12/23/2016Wow! Fun experience
Everything about the experience was fantastic. From the time you drive up, to the facility, to the people, a truly luxurious experience. The greens were tru and were rolling great. The tee boxes were the best i have ever seen. They were so perfectly flat that it felt like I was walking on a level floor. The day was windy so par 5 holes were extremely challenging. Be sure to pick appropriate tees! I played from the 7000 yd. tees and that was too much for me. Everyone was the PGA experience but avoid playing the tips unless you can drive the ball 300 yds.+. The golf course is among the top 5 I have ever played. I would recommend finding the best deal you can and then forget about the money and enjoy the experience. Get to the course an hour or two early and take advantage of the fantastic practice area. You are treated great at the course, enjoy being treated like someone special for a day.
Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
Played On 11/24/2016Great day of golf
The course is in great shape. The ball sits up nice and fairways are wide. The greens rolled true. It is a great resort course with wide fairways for players who want to hit driver a lot without too much risk. The only downside is that the back nine features 7 par 4s that seemed to have hazards at the same distances. It is a feel good course with plenty of opportunity to score
Thank you for coming out and playing at Talking Stick! We are glad you enjoyed your round and we than you for the 4 Stars!
Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan - Willow Glen
Played On 08/11/2016Paid $33 with coupon...got what I paid for
I fell bad for the course, no rain = no grass. The greens are in great condition but not very challenging. Most fairways are sand covered with dead grass or patchy grass. The tee boxes are fine. After 7 or 8 shots off dirt I was going to only play 9 but hole 9 is not near the clubhouse. I would like to play it when the fairways have better grass but now it is little more than a country course muni after a bad winter. The GPS on the cart would not advance so I had to do it manually. If I would have paid $99 for the round I would have been seriously aggravated. Some of the locals said that it was really great earlier this summer but now is "the worst condition that we have ever seen".
Aviara Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2016Great, Scenic Course
Second time playing Aviara and it was a great round. Many sceneic holes and challenging shots. Your experience depends on choosing the correct tees. The course can play both too easy or too difficult if you select the wrong tees. Ask starter for advice.
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links
Played On 05/15/2016$10 Cart Key Deposit?????
What is going on in the clubhouse? Before you even get started they aggrivate you by charging you a $10 cart key fee. NEVER have i had to pay a key deposit anywhere. They said they had carts stolen so they want to make sure you don't steal the key. So the course was in great shape, we played the "royal" course meaning they closed hole 9 and shortened 11 and made a par 3. No one mentioned that before we played. After we finished, I was driving home and remembered I had forgotten my key deposit. I had to drive back to the course to reclaim my $10. Last time I was there the clubhouse attended was relentlessly trying to exchange my $10 for two premium beers. What a shame, nice course but I first felt like a criminal, then like a salesman was trying to take an extra $10. Ownership needs to focus on service not trying to nickel and dime the patrons. The course is great, the clubhouse has the feel of a par three muni.
Hi "mnglfer" we have started the cart key deposit this year. The reason behind it, we have had some issues with cart key theft. We also offer a special promotion when you get back in the clubhouse. You can get your $10 back or you can get two premium beers (value around $14). If you have any further questions or concerns please email us at mississippidunes@outlook.com
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2015Great Staff, Excellent Greens
The course is in great shape and the greens undulate and role true. The course can be difficult if you dont stay straight off the tee box. From the time I drove up to the course I was greeted and treated to a first class experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Play was a little slow but that can happen when the fairways get a little tight. I visit San Diego each summer and will continue to make Maderas one of my golf stops.
Emerald Greens Golf Club - Gold Course
Played On 03/15/2015Reservation for 7:44 course opens @10
Spring golf is spring golf. We showed up at the course for our morning tee time and no one was in the clubhouse. We had a confirmed reservation so we went ahead and played assuming that someone had overslept and we would pay at the turn. We were met on hole 6 by Tom who after insinuating that we were trespassing, warmed up and was quite friendly. He allowed us to continue even though the course "opens at 10". I received confirmation from the course so we were confused by the initial interaction. Other than the confusion the course played OK. Its awfully early but having played elsewhere already, I would say the course is less ready than other courses. Greens have been painted green and were slow and straight. It is wide open, few hazards, perfect for spraying shots without a problem. That is why we chose the course, wide open, with little danger of blowing up.
The Jewel Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2014Long drive, worth it
Nice course in good fall condition. The greens rolled true and fairways are almost fully recovered from aeration. The staff was friendly and helpful and met me at the car with a cart to load up my clubs. On the front 9 there isn't too much trouble to get into. The back 9 gets a little tighter with tree lined fairways and forced carries. Be prepared to change your thinking and dial in your driver or chose a utility club instead off the box. It is a little too far to play regularly but worth the drive once in a while.
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links
Played On 10/11/2014Still Pristine in October
The course is still in great shape. The staff is friendly and helpful. The course is still in the same shape as it was in August; excellent. Be careful around the greens, the apron is shaved tight so it is easy to roll off the green. No GPS in the cart so bring your own.
Hell's Point Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2014Great Course Design
The course is beautifully designed with a lot of variety and challenge. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Course was in great shape except for the tee boxes which were Level but a little spotty. Overall I would recommend the course and may play it again when I am in the area
Hi, we appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing The Neuse Golf Club.
