Morgan's Crossing
Played On 08/19/2015A fun course
My wife and I went out to play 9 holes here and were pleased with the overall experience. Greens rolled true and were in great shape. The fairways had some seeding going on, but it didn't really affect play. Tee boxes could use some work as they were chewed up and mostly uneven. My wife only plays a few times a year and she found the course not overly challenging. Very few bunkers to worry about. Some water to carry at times and doglegs that make shot selection a premium. Pace of play was a bit slower than your average 2 hour 9. (we finished in 2:30) but we weren't pushed by anyone and although we waited a minute or two for the groups ahead, it was a nice enough day to enjoy.
Golf now deal was 15 for 9 each, which is more expensive then their hot deal of $10 for 18 later in the day which is weird, but whatever. We will return.
Duntroon Highlands Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2015Great Course
A fun course to play with many elevated tees and scenic views of the region. There are some blind tee shots that need some playing in order to learn where to hit it. The best reason to play this course is it holds many holes that you really have to think about before you make your shot. The greens are quick and greasy, and approach shots that aren't online roll off the sides easily. The greens putt true and though the course runs three or four holes wide at points, you must be on a fairway in order to make shots. The rough was maintained and longish, eating all of our trio up at one time or another. My only complaint (and it is minor) was that the tee boxes were not close to level and needed some seeding. They were playable, but needed some TLC.
The staff was very friendly, especially in the kitchen. Food was great at lunch.
Highly recommend for all levels. I shot somewhere around 94 and didn't lose a ball. You really have to hit your spots around the greens and on the par 3's.
Highly recommended.
Red at Tunxis Country Club
Played On 08/20/2014A Nice 9
Tunxis Red is a great 9 hole course that has enough challenge for the intermediate player but is open and forgiving enough for the beginner. Fairways are generally wide and well maintained and the greens ran true. There is water in spots (Mostly up the boundaries) but if you are hitting it well, it won't be a problem. There are a few holes that set up beautifully from the tee boxes; 7, 8 and 9 are particularly nice, 7 takes your drive out over the large pond shared with a tee box on the white course. Kind of a shorter version of #18 at Pebble beach. I could have played 18 on the white course for almost the same price on golf now later in the morning. It was a great deal.
Enjoy
Blue Fox Run Golf Club - Red Nine
Played On 08/21/2013Great Place
Went out in August with brother-in-law on a golfnow deal. Was a rainy morning and we had the run of the place to ourselves. Course didn't play long (from the blues) even though it had rained. Greens ran true and there are some really great elevation changes etc. If you are in the Avon area go here.
