Top of the World Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2020A fun day
Fairways in OK shape, with a few thin spots. Nothing major. Most of the fairways are sloped, so you have to hit your tee shot to a spot and let it run down to where you want it. Tee boxes a little chewed up, but normal for this time of year. Some of the green fringes were very inconsistent with various varieties of grass in them. Greens themselves seemed to be very slow, but maybe that is by design, since they are also quite sloped. A little frustrating because we could never get used to the speed, and the tiny practice green doesn't give you much of idea of how hard an uphill putt has to be smashed. Overall, we enjoyed our afternoon round.
Stowe Country Club
Played On 07/20/2020A disappointing start, as the pro shop was out of scorecards (they don't have a photocopier?). Luckily, the starter had one for us, but it didn't have a map of the course to help us find our way around our first time here. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Probably the best conditioned course we have ever played, but we're not accustomed to playing $100 courses. A couple of the greens had some thin spots, but nothing major. Irrigated fairways were lush and weed free. Just wish the members were more conscientious about replacing divots. Hardly a flat spot on this mountain course, including the putting surfaces. A difficult course for older folks like us to walk on a hot day, with all the ups and downs, but still quite playable. Not too many water hazards, and the bunkers appeared to all be in good shape. A good choice, if you can afford it.
The Lakes Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2019We played this course three days in a row. Pins were set in the same position each day. With all the traffic this course sees, due to it's proximity to The Villages, this leads to a lot of imperfections around the cups.
Course is OK if you go in with low enough expectations. Fairways are very thin, tight lies everywhere. Rough is no better, just more weeds. Greens are a mix of green and brown, almost impossible to putt.
I wouldn't pay more than $16/round to play here, but it's OK for that price, for us.
Zellwood Station & Country Club

Our foursome got started on our round 15 minutes late, and it took almost 5 hours to complete. This is what happens when the course has tee times 7 minutes apart. We have never played a round here where we didn't get backed up. The course itself is fine, but make sure you budget plenty of time if you go there.

We have played this course 6 times this fall. We enjoy the course for its price and playability. Check-in staff are always friendly and helpful. Tees, fairways, and greens are all over-seeded. The cart ride can be a bit bumpy in places due to too much traffic. Some greens have large bare spots that they are attempting to bring back into shape. You can get some tight lies in the rough, especially around the greens. Greens roll true, and are not terribly fast, but some have some severe slopes, and they seem to like to place at least one pin in a nasty position. Pace of play varies, we almost always caught up to a crowd on the back nine. Three of the four par 3's measure within 10 yards of each other. Some nice elevation changes, and a few blind shots, but little to worry about. Two large oak trees were recently removed, one on 10, another on 18. Overall, one of our favorite courses.
