Diamond Caverns Resort & Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2014Red red red red redneck
Closest course to my house, super cheap with Golfnow.com, but still will never go back. Tried to play two rounds (one on Sunday then on Tuesday) recently, but didn't finish either. Sunday they let me schedule for 9 am when they had a tournament/group event starting at nine. I got out in front of them, but slow play ahead of me and my partner got everything bogged down so it was a mess from there. Gave up after 7 holes. Came back on Tuesday morning 10 am. My partner and I quickly caught up with a group of 6 (yeah I said 6). By passed them only to get behind a threesome who took 15 minutes to go from tee to green after they all three hit in the woods and of course ventured in to the woods to look for their balls. Besides all that the place is very poorly kept. Field grass fairways not closely mowed. No bunkers just one dirt hole that might have been a bunker at some point. I don't even know you (the reader), but you deserve better.
Barren River Lake State Resort Park Golf Course
Played On 05/08/2014Fun and challenging
The front nine is fun. The back nine is brutal. Extreme elevation changes that help on some shots and hurt on others. I don't care for the amount of blind shots this course presents, but that's really the biggest problem I have. One of the better public courses in the area. Staff was pretty blah, and might as well pack your own drinks and snacks. Nothing special in the clubhouse.
Members only atmosphere (country club rejects)
I was willing to overlook how dumpy this place is because of the convenient location and great prices available on Golfnow.com. There isn't a bunker on the course. I was unaware there was such thing as a golf course without bunkers until I saw this place. Field grass fairways that require "pick and place" play because I'm not going to make my approach shot from a patch of wild onions or a dandelion. Apparently noone who plays there carries a divot tool, nor are they familiar with the concept of repairing ball marks on the greens. Every other course I have ever seen anywhere is better.
I'm not a great golfer, but I love to play the game. This course is less than ten miles from my house so this past spring and summer I played there often. However, I will never go back. Every time I went I was greeted with moans and groans asking, "Did you book with Golfnow.com?" Then I was immediately instructed to stay out of the way of the members who were on the course, and make sure to let them play through. The last time I showed up the first thing said to me was, "We're not going to have Golfnow.com deals next year." Any place that doesn't appreciate my business won't get my business.
Brandywine Bay Golf Club
Played On 2/21/2013I only play here when it's $15 or less.
You have to make up special rules when you play here. I classify several greens as "two putt greens" because they are in such poor condition that I won't count anything past a two putt. Forget the "play it where it lies" rule too. You'll have to move your ball several times because of the amount of debris in playable areas and muddy fairways. I like to grab a snack and a cold beverage at the turn when I play, but they haven't had anyone staffing the snack bar for months. I play here because of Golfnow.com's discounted rates period. Every other course in the area is a better option if you're willing to spend more for a better experience. I skip around a lot and usually just use this course to get in a practice round.
