Country Club of Newberry
Played On 05/21/2020Fun short layout
First off, the pro shop and snack bar location has a great atmosphere with the cobblestone structure and overlooking a pond and the 18th green. The first tee is pretty much located in the parking lot and you have to hit across the drive way which is pretty cool.
The course itself has rolling hills with some but mild elevation changes, which is mostly on the front 9. The front 9 holes are located very close to one another. The fairways themselves are pretty wide with pines running along side majority of the holes. The back holes are little tighter with the tree lines but has a beautiful little par 3 13th, tee box is lined with rose bushes and uphill 150 yard shot with a big tree on the left. The course is only 6066 yards from white (one up from tips), so they can be a lot of scoring opportunities if your driver and wedge game is on.
We had a lot of rain to the days leading up to play so the course was wet and so were the greens, but the greens rolled good and probably would have been a challenging speed if were dry. The greens had some good undulation to them as well. They looked like the holes haven’t been changed in a while though, but that might have been due to the rain and/or the COVID situation.
The course is an hour drive for me and I got a $25 rate thru golf now. I will definitely be back, and would play the course more if closer.
