Will Be Great in Time

I have been playing this course on and off for 20 years so I have seen it at it's best and worst. Currently it's on it's way back to being great again. The course has just reopened on the 11th November but will two hurricanes in the last month it needs to dry out a bit. The course has always been soft as it has lakes on pretty much every hole so you never get any run, choose your tees wisely as it plays long. The greens were re-laid in the summer so are still new but they roll well and are smooth. They are pretty slow but with time they will be get back to being super quick. I played around 9.30 and the fairway were very wet with zero run. Greens are good and pretty firm so no issues there. I will wait until the course drys out a bit before playing again but will definitely be back. I love the changes they have made especially the 1st and 10th tees. Overall the course is good right now and with a few more months for the new greens will settle down and all the changes they have made will mature. and make it great again. Looking forward to playing it again soon.

Great Course which is getting better

I have been playing this course for nearly 20 years and have seen it at it's best and at it's worst. Right now it's getting better, I can see the new owners are working very hard to get it good. They have added lots of landscaping, new bunkers and over seeded the fairways, tees and greens. I would say the tees are a 5/10, a bit patchy but you can see the new grass is coming through so probably another month and they will be good. The fairways are 8/10, very good just too soft, every tee shots plugs in the fairways and the green are very similar. I would give the greens 6/10 at the moment. I am not a green keeper but to me the whole course is over watered. It would be better to dry it out a little and make the grass roots work harder to survive. I was told many years ago that if you overwater a course the roots get lazy and won't go deep, also you get mould in the root beds. The greens have been overseeded and are getting better, we played the course about 3 weeks ago and they were very rough but have improved a lot since then. As I said I can see in another month the whole course will be much better. I just think they need to stop watering it so much so you actually get some run and your ball doesn't plug after every shot. It's naturally a soft course as there is water on pretty much every hole so really doesn't need watering that much to keep it alive and growing. I love this course and hope in the near future it will be better to it's former glory!

Could be very good! Needs more curb appeal.

We haven't played this course for 10-15 years so couldn't remember it but after reading the reviews we decided to give it a go. Got a Hot Deal so pretty cheap but I don't think I would pay more than $30-$35 right now.

Let me start with the good, the staff were really friendly and girl in the shop was really welcoming and helpful. The course was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday but that was good for us as we got round in 3 ½ hours. The tees are not good, most are very worn out but it's not that big a deal. The fairways are pretty good, lots of grass and you always get good lies. The greens were really nice and are the redeeming factor at the course, they are pretty small but very smooth and a good pace. The biggest issue for me was the approaches and around the greens, these were very overgrown and lots of big patches of grass/weeds which is a big odd. I know there has been a few days of rain this week so maybe that's why they haven't been cut but I feel they ruin the look of the course. If these were all cut short you wouldn't even see the weeds. The course has good fairways and greens so it's very playable but around the greens is a bit hit and miss. Also around the bunkers and lakes it's a little overgrown, again with a little bit more care and attention to details this whole course good look a lot better and they could easily charge more money. It needs more curb appeal!!

I know most courses in the area are struggling but if you go to one of the high end courses like Champions Gate you don't see lots of overgrown grass and they get $50-$100 per round.

One other comment would be that they need more fairway markers to show you where to aim and where the holes go. There are lots of dog legs and it's not that clear which way you should be going when playing it for the first time.

I would definitely go back and play the course again but I feel they could really make the course good with a little more care and attention. In a tough market you need to spend your time on the right things which is making the course look presentable. They already have good greens and fairways so it won't take much!

What a Shame!!!

As a part time resident at Ridgewood Lakes I am so disappointed to see the course like this. We were here in November and it looked like they were working on the course and trying to get it back to it's former glory. But having just arrived back after 5 months away it's worse than before. I know it's difficult for golf clubs to make money but if you don't spend what you have on the course no one will ever come back. You have to spend money to make money, especially in the golf course business. I don't even have any positive comments, actually I do the golf carts were very good. I really hope they can turn the course around as it's a great layout which deserves to be in better shape.

Great but tough course!

Champions gate is always windy which make this a tough course especially when the greens are as firm as they are right now. I have play both courses twice this week and they are both great courses and in fantastic condition. If I had one comment it would be that the greens are too firm for club golfers. They only hold the most well struck of shots which make them difficult especially the international. I played a mix of blue and black tees so tough even in still conditions but factor in the wind and rock hard greens it becomes very tough and can make you look a bit silly. I am sure both courses are much more friendly off the whites but these courses were designed to be played from near the back tees. Would definitely recommend them both but you need to bring your game!

I think the greens need more water as they are just too firm for an enjoyable game. But if you like a tough challenge this is the place for you. We are hoping to play there again next week and I am hoping for some rain to soften the course.

Ok condition, but need a ranger

Unfortunately it was cart path only when we played which really slowed things down. I don’t mind the walking but groups ahead of us struggled to keep up which made the round slow.

Condition of the course was ok, greens smooth but very slow and fairways very soft from the watering. I am guessing they are getting the courses ready for the busy season in a month or so. There was overseeding and lots of water! Ok for the money.

Great course ruined by the pace of play

I haven't played at Celebration for about 4 years but managed to get a last minute deal on golf now as I was just a single. As usual the course didn't disappoint, it's a great layout with a challenging back 9 not ideal for beginners but unfortunately this is all that seems to play here.

The course is in great condition except for the tees which looked a bit hammered, not a big deal, the fairways are perfect and the greens very fast and undulating.

The biggest problem was the pace of play which was 5 hours and 10 minutes which is terrible. I appreciate it was a Sunday afternoon but at that pace it is no fun waiting 5 minutes or more to hit every shot.

They do have a ranger on the course and he was doing his best to keep things moving but he can't help the standard of golfers that choose to play the course.

There is water on almost every hole of the course and the two ball in front of us must have dumped a couple of dozen in there as they went round, personally i can't see the fun in that.

Anyway I would still recommend the course you just need to get out very early or last thing after the masses have gone.

Maybe they should have bigger gaps between tee times to allow things to get moving and also recommend which tees player should go from based on there handicap.

In great shape just slow pace of play.

The golf course is in great shape and one of the best I have played over the last few weeks. We tee off at 10.45am and it took 5 hrs which is very slow. I wish they wouldn't load the course so much that it's like this as I don't think it was any group in particular that were slow just too many people on the course. I would go back but just book an early tee time.

Very Poor Condition but Not sure why?

I have played Legends many times over the last 10 years but this is the worst condition I have ever seen it in. Granted we only played $25 but it is very poor, most of the course has weeds all over it. The greens have a number of different types of grass growing in them which makes them not great to putt on and generally the whole course is in a bad way. I am not really sure why this is as the weather in Orlando this time of year is very good, not too wet so they are able to control the amount of water the course receives but it looks like the whole place needs a good dose of weed killer to allow the grass to come back. I won't be returning anytime soon!

Good Course but could be excellent.

I have played at Ridgewood Lakes for over 10 years now at all times of the year. The condition has always been generally good which it is at the moment. The greens are a little slower than normal for this time of year but I think the club is protecting them a little due to the amount of play the course is getting.

My only comment would be to book a few less tee times to make the pace of play a little quick as in the long run if the pace of play is very slow people might think twice about coming back but I understand clubs in Florida have to make there money in the winter so they try to get as many people on as they can.

I do have one other thing that I do not agree with which is the cost of range balls, I think a small bucket which is about 30 balls is $7 and a large which is 60 balls is $10 or close to that which I think is disgusting. I would like to hit balls before I play and don't mind paying say $5 for a large bucket but $10 for 60 ball is a bit of a rip.

Apart from that I think the course is a great layout and a good test from the back tees and is pretty good condition.
