Red’s Red Course at Wigwam

12:32 tee time, Friday, March 1st. Close to an on time start. Sadly, our 4-some, 2 men, 2 women, waited on every shot for 4hours and 45minutes. The course itself has been greening up nicely after a cold January. Greens rolled smoothly. Sand was good in the bunkers, but what’s up with players not raking them?! There is zero reason not to play this course in less than 4 hours! Wigwam, be a leader. Educate your golfers in proper etiquette and expectations before each round, allow your marshals to enforce said policies. e.g., 3 minute look for a lost ball, exit green from the back side, rake bunkers, play appropriate tees to your skill level, keep up with group in front of your group, perhaps pick up after double or triple bogey, keep moving, chat, answer emails later in the day. ✌🏻

Well kept secret

What a good deal for the money! Enjoyed the course. Greens rolled fast (like we prefer) and held a deserving shot. Definitely we would return !

First time on the Wigwam Gold Course

A decent value with the Golf Now Hot Deal. Not a $200 value. Greens were firm, leaving shallow, small indents which were difficult to repair due to extreme hard packed soil underneath. Bunkers were ok compared to 7 other area golf courses I’ve played this month. Fairways were patchy. Lots of water standing in any low area on the course; I guess water is not an issue here. Hoping that time will improve conditions. Playing the Gold Course again in Feb. BTW, I need to mention pace of play! On the back side we were able to see the group holding up play. WE WAITED ON EVERY SHOT - ALL DAY! The group 2 tee times in front of us was a par 5 and a par 4 behind!! Where was the course Marshall?! And they were all in golf carts! IMHO, “Grow the Game” should mean play with proper golf course etiquette, not “anything goes”! For instance, park golf cart in back of green (don’t casually amble back to cart which you’ve left parked in front of the green), don’t sit in cart waiting for your cart partner to hit and then drive 10-20 yards, slowly get out, take another 1-2 minutes to hit your shot (perhaps a wild miss sideways), slowly get in cart and drive another short distance and repeat the painfully slow preshot routine, putt out for a triple bogey or worse!, rake bunkers, repair even shallow ball marks (repair yours and another), keep up with the group in front of you, etc. Thanks for listening.

Could be nice with some TLC

The range was small and had very little grass. We were a two some following the first group off. We played front nine in 90 minutes. Went to #10 and ran into men’s day with two 4 somes waiting on tee. We waited every shot from then on. Why the course didn’t start them on the front or us on the back, I have no idea. Bad management! Course was muddy, tee boxes had no grass, just dirt, but greens weren’t bad.

Bunkers need work. Course was an interesting layout. Bring a gps to find your landing area. Course knowledge would have been helpful. Beautiful neighborhoods surrounding the course. Better than average. Perhaps some warm weather will promote better grass growth on the course.

It was a nice day

Beautiful day, overseed was ready for 90 degree rule with the gas carts. Loved the design of the golf holes. Periphery of course and bunkers are unfortunately not maintained. If this course charged $10.00 more per player, @200 players per day and let’s say 6 days a week, and then used this money for course maintenance, this track would be a gem. All that said, we enjoyed a 1:55 minute (4-some) front 9; however, something happened on the back 9. 2:35minutes!! Did that 4-some of young guys jump in front of us?! Marshaling would be helpful. We were chill. Made it a great day! 2 birdies on #18!! ⛳️🌴🏌️‍♂️🏌🏼‍♀️🏌️‍♂️🏌🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♂️🥃

Golf @canoaranch

Saw the print ads and the TV ads for this golf course. So we signed in to Golf Now and booked a tee time for four. We decided to take the leisurely 35 minute Saturday morning drive down to Green Valley to play golf at Canoa Ranch for our first time there.

On the positive side: The course layout was interesting and the par 3s were quite long and challenging. Sorry and sad to say, Big Disappointment after that. $67.00 per player was too expensive IMHO. Sand bunkers were rocks, no sand, and a nearly impenetrable surface. Difficult to even dent it with the rake, let alone a sand wedge. No amenities provided such as: a bottle of water, a towel, GPS. The carts are gas; therefore, don’t accelerate when someone is in their pre shot and swing routine. This slows okay.

The dead rough was cut like a military recruit’s buzz cut and was as hard as the cart path which allowed golf balls to run off the convex surface and into the cacti fields. This slowed play as the groups in front of us hunted for golf balls, frequently (every hole).

The greens, even flying high wedges into them, were nearly as firm as the cart path. Did I mention that they were also patchy (I get this. It has been a cold winter with numerous frost delays) But, a small tine punch and proper mowing would help.

The tee boxes had great looking, thick grass on them. Good for them.👍🏻 However, there was hardly a level spot and the grass was so long!!’ Uff-da!

Is this golf resort hurting for money? Or why the terrible course conditions?!

On the positive side, the bar service was excellent. 🥃Skol! 🙋🏼‍♂️

Sorry that I booked this course

A few well designed golf holes, but mostly totally blind shots on way, way too many holes. Fairway grass was long resulting in grass between club face and ball. Rough was so long and dense that pace of play was affected as the two groups in front of us and our group too had to hunt for golf balls a few inches off the fairway. The cups on the greens looked so worn on the edges that we wondered if they were cut the day before. $65/player + extra for range balls. Not a value. On the positive side, the pro shop employee was very polite and cheerful.

Mystic Gem

Every experience here was top shelf; friendly staff in the pro shop and on the course. Sparkling gem from GPS golf carts to lush fairways and greens. Pick one of 5 tee boxes at your own risk - water lurks everywhere. Enjoy a bite and a beverage after golf as you challenge the casino.

Quarry Pines now. The Pines years ago.

Last played here when it was The Pines. Disappointed in course conditions yesterday, Feb. 9, 2022. Greens shaggy, bumpy, slowish. Sand bunkers are awful; not groomed in forever, some wet mud, some a dusting of small pebbles over hard pan, some deep heavy brownish sand. 4 hours and 28 minutes - waiting on nearly every shot; you’re in carts! Course layout is certainly gorgeous and challenging. Return some money to course maintenance.

Sunny, 70F’s, light breezes at Starr Pass

This course is definitely target golf. Second time around the Rattler and Road Runner Courses helps. Only complaint is the greens. First time, 2 weeks ago, they were firm, rough, shaggy, and slow. Today they were softer, but they had been small tine punched, still bumpy and rough. Today, Tuesday, the play was very light. :-)

Golf before the Super Bowl LV

12:06 tee time on Super Bowl Sunday. Walked off 18 at 4:20! That worked. Course conditions included shaggy, blotchy, slow (7?) greens. Traps were unkempt either crusty top or soft loose sand. Sure, no rakes, you can move ball out of foot prints but traps were not groomed daily so they were a mess. Tough layout with some blind shots up hill, and some narrow, crowned fairways. Only one beverage cart in 18 holes!. At least the price was ok. :-).
