River at Hampton Cove Golf Course
Played On 04/19/2022Good Layout, Conditions Could Be Better
Played twice in mid-April after a week of rain. Layout was nice and the greens were in good condition for the time of year. Plenty of soft sand in the bunkers that guard the elevated greens. High shots short of the green result in semi-buried lies in the bunkers which can be big trouble for mid to high handicappers. Tee boxes and fairways need some help. Maybe it’s better later in the year but the turf in the fairways and tee boxes was not what I would expected after looking at the beautiful pictures in the brochures. This was really the case around the greens, hard to chip off extremely thin turf/dirt. Probably better later in the year but course maintenance could use some improvement.
River at Hampton Cove Golf Course
Played On 04/19/2022Early Season Round
Played in mid-April after a week of rain so I’m guessing that impacted the conditions which were average and could use some improvement. Great layout, peaceful track with no houses. Elevated greens require accurate approach shots. This was especially true when we played as the grass around the greens was very thin. Greens were in very good condition and rolled nicely. Fairways were in decent shape but recent flooding of the river had left some areas very soft and grass was thin. No bunkers on this course which was a relief after being punished by the Highlands bunkers in a morning round.
This review was for the River course.
Rock Hollow Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2021Great Course Despite Wet Conditions
Played early in the morning after heavy overnight rain but the course was in great condition. Beautiful piece of land with a nice mix of trees and water. Comparable to the Bear Slide course in Cicero but a better value in my opinion. Tees, greens and fairways were excellent.
Grand Traverse Resort & Spa - The Bear Course
Played On 06/26/2020Fun Course From the Appropriate Tees
The good: check-in guys friendly; layout is challenging but fun if you play the right tees; course well maintained, fairways and greens excellent; lunch at the clubhouse grill was excellent
The bad: breakfast sandwiches at the snack shack warmed in a microwave are soggy w cold centers; afternoon bag drop crew of young guys who need training, some had resort shirts, some did not, none seemed interested in earning any tips; range and practice area are a little small for a resort of this size, don’t care for paying for warm up balls before $150 round.
Overall great course and facilities, would play again.
Couldn’t believe it was $7 for a bag of range balls after $160.... blew my mind.
