Old South Golf Links
Played On 02/26/2024A Good Track in Decent Condition
We like Old South, have played it many times. We had an early (and a bit chilly) tee time, which helped us make the 18 holes in 3:47. Greens were excellent condition for the season, though a little bit slow. The 2 sort of signature holes, 7 & 16, are a challenge, but fun.

Played On 02/21/2024Nice Course, continues to Improve.
The greens were again excellent. I was impressed with some extensive resodding of areas that have needed it. The people/staff are friendly and efficient. I know from many past visits that the restaurant/bar is pretty good, too. So the only real disappointment on the day was that it was closed so early. We wanted to enjoy a drink & snack with the new friends we met - and really enjoyed - when we were paired up with them. Pace of play has been too slow on some past visits, but today was fine - about 4.5 hours for the 18 holes, including a bit of a long restroom break for the ladies at the turn.

Played On 12/07/2022Refreshing Comeback
It had been a few years since I played Robbers, and only once since the hurricane damage - and it was clear then that Port Royal was facing restoration challenges that didn't seem to be keeping up with other area courses. So I stayed away until deciding to try again this year. I was surprised and so pleased to find the course, especially the greens, back in excellent condition. We played 6 different courses on this trip, and RR was the best shape of the 6. The RR layout has always been terrific - and now the conditions are too!

Played On 12/07/2022Wonderful Comeback
Robbers (and Barony) took a lot of damage from the hurricane a few years ago. Due to insurance arguments or whatever, restoration didn’t begin quickly and courses stayed closed for some time with deteriorating conditions. So I hadn’t played there for quite some time. This first time back was wonderful! The full course and especially the greens were in top condition. Robbers Row is a very good layout (not for walking, though - long distances fro greens to next tee) with a nice variety of good holes, no two the same. Pace for our twosome behind a threesome who seemed to 3 and 4 putt every hole was poor - we could have used a ranger to encourage them since they had 2 or 3 open holes in front of them, but it was a beautiful day on a beautiful course. Loved it!
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 12/06/2022Course is slowly coming back to life
The original design and layout of Rose Hill is interesting and a good test. The course was closed, unmaintained, and overgrown when it fell to financial troubles, and when reopened under a management company, not much acceptable progress was made. Now that the club is again managing the course and it’s maintenance, improvements are underway. But the current state is really just pretty poor. There is so little grass and turf on much of the greens that it’s basically “unputtable” in places. The fairways are getting better, still a long way to go. If the club can afford the needed chemistry and work hours, I’d guess it could reach more acceptable conditions by next year sometime. Today, though, it’s not much fun to play, although it is still a decent $ value with a lower cost than almost any local competitive course.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes.
Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly.
Thank you for visiting Rose Hill Golf Club. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.

Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 04/15/2021Great Course Needs Care
This Arnold Palmer is a great design and routing through the upland and marshes. Tough course from the longer tees. The conditions reflect the poor maintenance budget over the last few years. Now, with Brown Golf management, it may improve back towards its previous glory. We hope so. In the meantime, it's inexpensive - a low price, but you're getting what you pay for vis-a-vis the conditions. Greens were so bumpy!
Nice thanks for review response.... but they didn't need to make notes from my review to know the conditions are really pretty bad. I didn't see much evidence of the beginnings of improved maintenance beginning. I'm hopeful but not confident that they'll get it into better shape.
Hi, stevecurrie46! Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back at Crescent Pointe Golf Club!
Old South Golf Links
Played On 12/06/2021Interesting Variety
We enjoyed the course a lot, and will be back. Holes include parkland holes, links-like holes and marsh holes. Decent conditions, winter rye overseeding well done - greens a bit slow.
We appreciate the 4 star review. We are glad to know you enjoyed Old South and will be back again.

Played On 02/24/2020Interesting Course, Too Wet for Play
An interesting course which should have been considered almost unplayable today. Cart rule was 90 degrees today, but it was too wet almost every fairway. Greens were decent, but tee boxes were squishy with very poor footing. Most bunkers were filled with water. It has rained a lot recently, but other courses we played after the rains had already drained better. Today, at least, this course was an almost unplayable mess. Carts damaged the course a lot. I don't think they should have opened for play. Even at the low $39 price, it really wasn't worth the money or the effort
We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your round due to previous rain. Our course does sit on clay so post-rain drainage takes a bit more time. We hope you'll return for a far better experience during drier conditions.

Played On 02/23/2020Decent February Golf
The fairways and tees need work - but not terrible - it’s more just a case of February. Nothing especially good or bad. With reasonable expectations in hand, it’s a good value for price paid.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 12/08/2019Great Course, Fine Conditions
For the date, course conditions are impressive. Fairways are over seeded with winter rye and lies are very good. The new turf used on the greens (some kind of updated tifdwarf?) is spectacular! Greens were so perfect, rolled smoothly. Pace of play was overall OK, though the 3 in front of us were very slow on and around the greens. Lots of waiting and watching from 125 yards out.
Outstanding! Your feedback is important to us. Thank you for sharing your 5-star experience. We look forward to seeing you again at the course soon! Thanks for choosing Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run.
Oyster Reef Golf Course
Played On 04/17/2019Great Design
Really nice course. I’d played it many times in past years, but not since the big storm damage in Nov. ‘16, which was severe. We visited few weeks after that storm, and it was so distressing to see how badly hit. But now, 2.5 years later, the restored course is lovely. If you didn’t know about the ‘16 storm damage, you’d never be able to guess it had happened, the restoration was so well done. The reduction in tree density may have even been beneficial with improved sunlight and air circulation to the greens.
The pace of play was poor on the first nine, with one group holding everyone else up with their 2.5 hour front side. The starter, bless his heart, convinced them that they needed a break and they went in for a free drink and lunch. Pace was good for the back 9.
Conditions were pretty good, but not pristine. The practice green and a couple of greens on course — especially the 9th — were kind of rough and thin turf. Fairways were decent, but could be a bit more lush by mid April. Since the storm, the nines have been reversed, a good decision. The back nine is a far better finishing side now.
But the character of the course shines through with its lovely path through a gorgeous setting and a nice variety of holes and tough but very fair challenges. It’s not a “must play,” but no one should be disappointed. Were conditions at a higher level, the course would easily merit 5 stars.
We really appreciate the kind words. Look forward to seeing you again.

Bear Slide went on hard times, deteriorated, changed ownership, and needed work. And the new owners and management did what was needed. The course is back up to a good standard - not great yet, nut you can see improvement continuing. The greens are already quite good. A decent value now, they are no longer discounting like they did the past few years. They don’t have to.

Played On 03/27/2018Pace Hurt Great Round
Love the course, good condition for season, great greens. Have reviewed before, recently. But pace of play was a negative, and could perhaps have been avoided. We (a twosome) had a mid afternoon tee time, arrived a bit early. Close to tee time, 4 couples - 2 foursomes as a group arrived - nice folks though a bit confused and disorganized - and with the tw.o tee times ahead of us - and no tee times booked after us. I have worked as a starter, and would have sent the twosome out ahead of the 4 foursomes group. But, no. So our round was a glacially paced 5 hours, and less fun than it could and might have been.
I made no suggestion to the starter at the time; I know there are sometimes policy or other issues that reduce flexibility. But we wished a lot that there would have been some flexibility and thoughtful creativity on this occasion. It was fairly clear that the 4 foursome group were pleasant folks who likely would have had no objection. Oh, well.

Played On 03/27/2018Beautiful Disaster
Fuzzy designed a gorgeous, challenging and fair layout. Which has become a disaster due to a lack of maintenence - especially water. Been dry here, needed some watering - didn't get any. Disgusting. Fairways are like furry concrete, darn hard to keep the ball from running into trouble. It will be a long time before the low price lures back to this disappointment.
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2018Restoration Project
Rose Hill has been through numerous financial crisises and bankruptcies and the last one basically destroyed the course, overgrown and unmaintained. The new management is investing and restoring, and have made a lot of progress. But not enough. The course has reopened for play and it really shouldn't be but I suppose they need some cash flow to help fund the ongoing restoration. With many greens still frankly unplayable and tees and fairways terribly sparse, it frankly sucks. But they are trying and are improving. I'll look again in a year or two.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 03/21/2018Nice course, Great par 5’s
This is an excellent golf course. The greens were generally in very good condition for the season - rolled smoothly and no bumps off line. We’d have liked to see a little more on course agronomy care, but it was pretty good. The starter pushed hard for me to play the white tees, at about 5,400 yards vs. the gold tees at 6,200 yards (I am 72 yrs old, but still with a 9 handicap). But as soon as I saw, on the card and on the course, that on many holes, the white and green (most forward) tees were colocated, I rejected that - and had fun shooting a 79 on a windy day from the gold tees. I really don’t care to play the par 3’s from under 100 yards. The wonderful par 5 9th hole was being worked on, had a temporary green at a shotynpar 4 distance, too bed, but that will be temporary. Access to the course within the private plantation isn’t terribly restricted, but the driving routing to get there is a pain in the neck.
Seascape Golf Beach and Tennis
Played On 04/06/2017Improved Greens, Still Needs Work
I've played Seascape several times before, but not for the last 18 months, or so. It's a resort layout, on some holes kind of stuffed into limited available land. The layout on the front nine is a little goofy for some holes, with long trips from 1st green to 2nd tee, and poorly designed doglegs to squeeze into reclaimed land among the wetlands. The back nine is a better, fairer design, and a pretty good none holes. As to conditions, the course still needs work. The greens were in much better condition that I'd seen previously -- healthy and green, but they were quite furry and slow -- badly needed cutting and perhaps rolling. They had clearly not been mowed that morning. The previously interesting 18th hole was a nice finishing hole which has now been converted into a kind of silly 220 yard par 4, straight away, no challenge, as the course lost the original green and the rest of the fairway length to a new commercial development.
The fairways are not lush, but were somewhat better than previously. The tees are still horrible, with almost no flat, level spots, and very little turf growing out of a much too sandy soil. Hard to maintain a good stance when you swing as your feet tend to move in the soft sandy soil you can't really get a firm stance into.
It's not bad, but there are so many courses in so much better condition in the area -- but, Seascape has generally more available tee times, likely because of this. The price at Seascape is generally lower than at the better conditioned courses, so it is a matter of getting what you pay for. The VALUE for money paid at Seascape is good. The owner of Seascape also owns nearby Emerald Bay, which was recently renovated and has resulted in a spectacularly nice course in excellent condition, so many of us are hoping that Seascape might see a needed renovation in the near future.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 02/08/2017A Favorite Course
I love this course. It's beautifully laid out, designed to be challenging for better players while not intimidating for others. It's peaceful and relaxing, with no houses, condos, villas, whatever surrounding you. Just a gorgeous example of natural low country nature. The greens were excellent-- as usual. HHN has done a fine job of cleaning up after Hurricane Matthew -- some still remains to be done but that's only in the woods, we'll out of any intended line of play. Again, I love this course. Clearly in my top 5 within the entire HHI vicinity.
Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 11/18/2016Good Condition for Post Hurricane
We played the Galleon/Clipper 9's for the 18. Not sure if the Brigantine 9 is open after the storm damage yet. The greens were in absolutely spectacular condition. The course still had some storm damage, but it was mostly cleaned up -- still a lot of damage in the woods along next to the fairways. This is one of HHI's older layouts, and it still feels modern and up to date. We like it.
Some of the cart assistants were pretty damned impatient, brusque and rude. But not all of them. The service at the 19th hole bar was excellent.
We appreciate your thoughtful comments and the 4 star review. 7 and 16 can be a challenge but you can't beat the views!
