Turtle Creek Golf
Played On 04/08/2021Nice day, terrible greens and pin placements
Turtle creek is a short course, but they wanted to pad their slope rating so the greens are stupid -- compounded by even dumber staff that put pins on hills in the greens and make it near impossible to sink a putt. Good day with good friends, but every year we remember why we don't come back until the following year - the greens are dumb.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 09/29/2018Meh - For this price, no way.
The conditions were great on the course, but when you don't even have a clubhouse (Sit outside of a trailer to eat) you can't charge $100 a round (and then not even marshal the course!). The pace of play was very slow, a group in front of us held up four foursomes the whole day. Frustrating to pay that money and have them manage their course -- the lack of any indoor facilities to eat is pretty laughable.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 8/24/2013Great pace, needs a lot of work and facilities
Even with the Golfnow discount, the green fee comes in at the high end for other courses in the GTA. We had heard good things about the course so we booked it, expecting higher end facilities.
First off the staff are fantastic here, very friendly and genuinely good people -- a lot of courses could learn from that approach (Crosswinds anyone? Ugh.).
The fairways and greens were in rough shape on some holes with a lot of patches of dead grass etc. They were clearly trying to repair the damage, but the fact remains there's some issues (not significant if the green fee was more on par with the competition around them).
The other annoyance was they only had one credit card machine for the beer carts -- so the front nine wasn't an issue using a credit card, but on the back nine they would only take Visa or MC and made a paper transfer of the credit card. Annoying, slow and really unnecessary. Again when you are charging close to $100 for a round, get another darn credit card terminal.
The last comment is that they don't have a clubhouse, just a trailer that serves some beer and I'm guessing hotdogs or something. Again, this comes back to the green fee vs facilities/conditions.
The course wasn't all that hard, but it was enjoyable and it was a pretty quick pace. I won't be back unless that green fee is halfed however, it just doesn't stand up to the price they charge. I'd rather play Lowville, Carlisle or Indian Wells any day regardless of price before I come back here.
