La Vista/El Cielo at Desert Princess Country Club
Played On 04/01/2024Great course that needs to join the 21st century
The course is great. Played in 3 hours 35 minutes. The conditions were pristine in March. I liked the variability of the holes on the course and felt like I was using a lot of clubs in my bag.
My biggest frustration is the lack of technology. There's a QR code on the carts for a GPS system that you can use from your phone. It's a clunky interface, slow to load, difficult to read on the phone in bright and sunny conditions, drained my battery, and didn't include any help with green reading. They've got to get the greens mapped so Golf Logix, USGA GHIN, and other apps can share that information with golfers.
The USGA GHIN app worked for GPS on Cielo/Lagos but not for Vista, and there are a number of Desert Princess courses entered in the USGA GHIN app that don't work for GPS nor green reading.
I'm not saying that they need fancy GPS enabled carts, they just need to map the greens and clean up the information they're providing to these pre-existing golf GPS apps.
Corica Park - South Course
Played On 12/15/2023best greens in the Bay Area
Wanna challenge your game? These greens are big, slick, and like a roller coaster. The course is fun, challenging, and an easy walk.
Pasatiempo Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2022Great Course!
Had an amazing day at Pasatiempo. The weather was great, and the recently aerated greens putted better than any aerated course I've ever played, and slowed the greens just enough to be able to make a few putts.
Pace of play was a little slow (4h 30m) for a semi-private golf club. I would've expected to get around a little quicker.
Advice:
- Take an extra club on pretty much every par 3. Even the ones that look flat are either deceivingly uphill or played into the wind.
- The par 4 #11 needs two extra clubs, at least.
Stone Creek at Page Belcher Golf Course
Played On 03/26/2022Good value course
This course had great pace of play (4hrs on the button on the weekend), friendly staff, and it's a great value.
The greens were incredibly bumpy and there are a lot of barren areas near fairways, in fairways and around the green where grass should be.
Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
Played On 01/05/2022Fun course, interesting layout
I like the mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, required me to use every club in my bag. Greens, tee boxes, and fairways were in great shape.
Cathedral Canyon Golf Club
Played On 01/04/2022Eastmoreland Golf Course
Played On 08/11/2021Great course and a great value
The fairways and greens were in great condition at Eastmoreland despite a really hot Portland summer. While the rough was a little patchy in places, it didn't bother me as that made it a little easier to recover from a wayward drive.
It's a real thinking man's golf course. Slopes on the green don't look steep, but good luck keeping it close to the hole if you're above the pin. Some par 4s don't require driver, and the angle of your approach is far more important.
Highly recommend this course!
Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 05/14/2021Great value course, needs a little upkeep.
I only paid $50 for a tee time, which is pretty low for an out-of-towner in Coachella Valley.
Pace of play was anazing. As a single, I was able to play all 27 holes in 4 hrs, 5 minutes.
The course has a good layout, but areas in the rough were burned out, tee boxes were unkempt, the rough was more weeds than grass in some areas, and had to tap down some ant hills on the green to putt.
While chatting with locals at the clubhouse, they shared a Korean investment company owns the course and has been cutting corners with course maintenance to earn bigger profits. That may be why course conditions are down.
Silverado Resort & Spa - South Course
Played On 05/17/2018Great course, needs to improve resources for golfers
You're paying for playing in Napa County, but one would think that for that kind of money, there would be more consistent resources for golfers to play well in the 21st century. You would think a resort course would have updated resources, but here's what I encountered: 1) The course map they hand out shows bunkers on #2, #9, #10, #13, #16, & #18 that don't exist; 2) the green layout on the course map are impossible to read and you have no idea whether you're hitting into a flat green or a three-tier green 3) The online course fly-over videos show the same information in the course map; 4) The android app has removed the bunkers, but the descriptions still mention them, and they really don't provide a lot of info; 5) the golf carts don't provide GPS yardage info.
Club selection off the tee and into the greens was challenging. When I did hit greens I was often above the hole with slippery downhill putts because there are a lot of multi-tiered greens from left to right.
The course was in great condition, which it should be for $149 and for the PGA Tour to stop here. The pace of play was great and the amenities around the course were great. The staff was incredibly friendly and provided helpful advice while I was warming up about several tricky holes.
The Stadium Course at PGA WEST
Played On 06/30/2016Excellent conditions, Challenging test of your game
The TPC Stadium course at PGA West was in excellent condition for a summers day. There were a few browned out spots on the greens, but pin placements were smartly placed away from these areas.
This is a challenging course that doesn't let you get away with poor shots. Prior to playing, it would be helpful to hit some sidehill/uphill practice iron shots wherever you can, since you will most likely have a few of these if you miss a fariway.
Pace of play was great on a weekday morning and we finished in 3hr 45min.
Chardonnay Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2016Excellent conditions, minus the tee boxes
Chardonnay is in really stellar condition. We played double magnums that day. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways look great. Bring your A+ game, as off target shots often find water hazards and vineyards.
The one area of frustration I have with this course are its tee boxes. I understand that there may need to be a subtle slope to allow for easier drainage. However, these are some of the most uneven tee boxes I have played on. It impacts your ability to hit solid tee shots, when you feel like the ball is so far above or below your feet.
Sharp Park Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2015Great greens, fair MacKenzie challenge
For those who are not members at Augusta National or one MacKenzie's private course designs, being able to play a MacKenzie public course is a privilege. His complex greens have withstood the test of time.
The greens were rolling smooth and the course is in good condition.
Hoel 16 & 17 are a mess, mostly dirt fairways. Hopefully they will be renovated soon. Otherwise the course is in good condition
