Windermere Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2019Fun layout with some rough edges
Great track to play if you're a long hitter. Rough is kept short if you roll off the fairway. Greens are fast, true and daunting. Fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. Fairway bunkers are embarrassing... mud and rocks leave them essentially unplayable. Many members just take a free drop out of them... either way it definitely takes away from the experience. Course probably gets more play than any other Clubcorp course in the area, and sometimes pace can suffer as a result (as well as depleted carts). Practice green and range are nice, but chipping area is lacking. Approach on 18 is memorable, into a clubhouse and patio that'll welcome you to stay for a drink or bite. Always busy and fun on Friday nights.
Olde Atlanta Golf Club
Played On 05/01/2019Great traditional Georgia-style layout.
Tree-lined fairways demand more precision than blasting huge drives, though several holes do give you the opportunity to swing away. Greens are in phenomenal shape. Fairways and bunkers play like they should. Rough has been problematic in the past, but crew has responded to criticism and is keeping it short. Doesn't always drain well after heavy rain on some holes. Not the most glamorous, but a great golfer's course.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 09/18/2015Best just off Island
First course on left coming off HHi. Great shape. Was a little more crowded than the others around Bluffton (for good reason) which prevented fast play. Pace was about average though. Plenty of water and marsh to swallow balls.
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 4/23/2013Excellent for a hot deal
I played this for the first time on a Tuesday in late April. It was a little busy for mid-week (1pm) but staff did well to keep up starting times and pace. Greens had been punched 8 days prior but were healing up pretty well. Nice layout, some challenging holes on the back 9. #11 has an impressive island green on a par 5 that forces two carefully places shots before going for the green. #14 is 195 yds from blue, about 180 of which must carry water; tough par 3 but not impossible, as we heard one of the members had aced it earlier that day - David and I each sank a couple balls trying. Deep bunkers on a few holes offer a nice challenge.
Chestatee Golf Club
Played On 1/07/2013Great layout, unhealthy greens
I did enjoy the layout of the course, and most of the grounds an fairways were in good shape for the season, but the greens were in awful shape. Lots of patches with sand and no grass. I was told that they got really bad at the end of last season, probably were too hard and got diseased. Supposedly they have gotten better over the past couple months, but have a long way to go. Hopefully alright by mid-Spring. You don't hit the clubhouse at the turn, do load up on snacks and drinks on your way out. Good luck with hole #8!
Hi "NuttRN" Thanks for the great review. Our very scenic course can eat a ton of golf balls. The course is fun and challenging all at the same time. Thanks for Playing!
