Alta Sierra Country Club

Wonderful day at Alta Sierra. Greeted with a smile in the golf shop. Course was very pure. Greens were slightly slow, but smooth. Great layout. Well worth the drive.

First time playing here in several years. Always been a great layout, and it’s a beautiful place to be.
As far as the course is concerned:
Tee boxes were in rough shape; uneven, splotchy growth and inconsistent mowing. Fairways were overall good, but inconsistent in firmness/softness. Rough was lush and full. Bunkers have been completely refinished since my last visit. Beautiful to look at and the sand is great, but they need some time to settle. I was plugged in every green side bunker I hit. The greens among were the worst I’ve putted this year. Very very very slow and soft. They had fully recovered from a recent aeration so I don’t understand why they were so slow.
The problem I have with this place is not feeling like I got a premium experience after paying a premium price. The round cost $95 with cart and a few warm up balls on the range. The range only had 8 hitting spots open, so we had to wait. They have a huge range, no reason to only have 8 stalls available. The carts are quite old with no windshield or GPS. Very limited food and beverage options. There was a hot dog cart at the turn and the front desk where we checked in was selling beer. The worst was the greens. If you pay nearly $100 to play a golf course on a weekend, you need to justify that with premium condition and amenities. Overall, you can tell they have made improvements and they’re on the right track, but they’ve got a ways to go.

Course is beautiful with outstanding greens. It's pricy and pace of play is always 4.5 hours +. If it's wet at all, the course is almost unplayable from tee-green. It will inevitably be cart path only and the rough will saturated in areas to the point where you could lose your ball. Great course to play on a hot deal in the summer but wouldn't recommend paying more than $35 to play.
