Seen Better Days

I used to occasionally play this course when it was in better shape and had decent recollections of the overall conditions. It needs a lot of work in terms of fairways, rough and tee boxes. The greens were in pretty good shape. Pace of play was excellent. Midday on a weekday there were very few players out there. My overall impression was that the place had seen better days. Carts were kinda run down looking as was the clubhouse and facilities. Lots of roots, pebbles, etc in the rough areas. Spotty fairways. Staff was cordial and got me situated right away. Practice range was pretty nondescript. Don't foresee a return visit.

This Golf Course Should Be Condemned

This used to be a very nice golf facility with two above average golf courses, the older Maples course and the newer Palmer course. Unfortunately, time has not dealt kindly with either course. The Palmer course is closed to play and the Maples course should be, as well. It's in derelict condition. The greens are totally gone. The fairways are mainly crabgrass. The practice range looks like a neglected cow pasture.
The only creatures enjoying the golf course are the geese that have taken over, There's goose excrement all over the place. If Stephen King were to write a novel about a golf course, Woodlake would be a great setting. It's like a ghost town, where once stood a decent course. By no means should this place be open to public play until ownership is settled and the proper upgrades have been made. Until such time my sole advice is to avoid this place like the plague. They couldn't pay me to play it again.

great greens, no crowds, courteous service.

Played as a twosome in well under four hours. Greens rolled true and smooth. Always love playing here, as well as Talamore's sister course across the road (Mid South Club). In fact, I like this place so much I bought a villa unit here, Never gets old. Different tees represent all the challenge any golfer could ask for. It's a good thing the bunkers are well maintained, because there are a bunch of them, both guarding the fairways and the greens.

best greens around

I live in the Southern Pines / Pinehurst area. so am used to great courses. The Finley greens rank up there with the best I' 've played anywhere. The dormant fairways and rough were also well groomed. The entire facility is first rate. Looking forward to playing there again.
