Potential is there - owners need to keep at it

I play this course 3-4 times per year in our local rotation. It is a challenging track, very nice looking design, glimpses of the salt marsh along some holes, and worth playing.

The good: fairways and greens for the most part were as good as I have seen them in the past year. Real progress is being made. Pace of play was excellent, ranger on the course checking in with players.

Room for improvement: bunkers are in serious need of additional sand. I will say they were raked out at the beginning of the day, but there is not much there to rake - best you can do is try to pick the ball cleanly from any of the bunkers - which is fine from the fairway but not so green-side. The tee boxes were hit and miss in terms of condition. It looks like the tee markers had not been moved for a number of days.

This course has so much potential, and with some attention to detail, would be in the front of our rotation for play.

In better shape - and continues to improve

I've always enjoyed the layout at Rose Hill, but had stopped playing there a couple of years ago because it was in such bad shape. Starting playing there again last year as friends were giving it a 'last chance'. I can tell you it has certainly improved and continues to improve.

It is a challenging track, with some narrow hitting areas, plenty of trees and water hazards to deal with.

The greens are in great shape, the tee boxes for the most part are kept mowed and free of bare areas. Traps still need a bit of work but acceptable. The fairways and rough is where the course needs to keep moving forward to turn this course from good to great.

Enjoy playing here and will continue to do so, as long as improvements to the overall experience continue to grow.

Very good track - could be one of the best with a little attention to detail

Always enjoy playing Pinecrest. It is a challenging track requiring shot placement, staying out of trouble (plenty of trees, water and a few forced carries).

Greens are in great shape, fairways have filled out nicely for late summer, and the rough is penalizing - rewarding accurate drives in the short grass. A couple of the tee boxes are pretty chewed up and it is baffling why management doesn't move the tee markers to a better part of the box. Additionally, the traps are only inconsistently raked out, not a tough task to do, but the course needs to take care of this detail to be 'on par' with the other excellent public tracks in the area.

Very good, challenging track

The course is in very good shape at this time. Greens are fast and true, the fairways are in great shape, the Bermuda rough is long enough to want to avoid it, but not devastating if in it. The only inconsistency on the course is the sand traps, but if avoided (tough to do here), then a really great value for the money.

This course always plays long, and the greens are firm, so a lot of roll. Staff is very friendly, but if the course is quiet, as it was when we played, then the only refreshment on the course are 2 comfort stations, one on each nine.

First Time on this track and definitely not the last

In a nutshell, our round at Old South was everything one could ask for. Great course conditions - definitely the best fairways anywhere in the area, greens rolled true and the course presented enough natural challenges to make one really think about each shot. Played from the blue tees (6300 yards / 130 slope).

A nice touch when playing the course the first time - let the clubhouse know and they will comp a yardage book - which you really need. No real blind shots, but a number of forced carries. Playing the correct side of fairways definitely makes the difference in approaches to the greens. #8 and #16 have specific landing zones off the tee that set up a second forced carry into the green.

The course has a bit of the feel of Harbour Town on Hilton Head. Wooded in places, tidal marsh areas, water in play on at least 8 holes and rolling terrain all rolled into one nice track..

Great staff. Definitely will be back.

Very nice, challenging track

Golden Bear is a pretty low-country course that tracks through a residential neighborhood. It features a lot of trees throughout, and water is very prominent - often times hidden.
Greens were rolling very true and fast, the fairways, in spite of a heavy rainfall earlier in the week rolled out very nicely. The only negative is that the tee boxes (we played from the gold - 6100 yards) were rather beat up on many of the holes. Recommended to the pro shop to move the tee markers more frequently to allow the areas to heal.
Overall a very good value and a challenging course. Nicklaus was up to his design tricks with risk / reward considerations on a lot of the holes.

Great track but needing more care to make it top-notch

Very much enjoy playing Crescent Pointe for the challenges, literally on every hole. Played from the White tees (6050 yards / slope 132). Each hole is gorgeous, there is water on most of them, the greens and fairways are well bunkered. Visually, one is challenged to keep the ball in play, but most fairways open up to provide a landing zone - one just has to hit it there.
We were disappointed with the condition of the tee boxes on most holes, as well as the fairways on the front nine. The back nine is in much better condition.
The greens roll very true and have some deceptive breaks - they are large as well.
It's a good price when getting a Hot Deal - normal rates are a bit high when comparing conditions with other public courses in the area.
Very friendly / helpful staff.

The potential is there

This was my 4th time playing this course in the past 3 months. Highlights - some of the most consistent greens in the area; the course plays long, shot placement is key - even though it looks wide open in many places. Lowlights - course drains slowly, so if there has been a heavy rain in the previous couple of days, expect cart-path only. The restaurant / bar is currently closed (no staff), and as such, there is no 19th hole, much less anything to eat on the property.
Definitely a track worth playing, but just know going in that the rest of the amenities are in a state of flux, with no timetable to get the restaurant / bar back open.

Course is playing really nicely now

3rd visit to Hilton Head Lakes, and the first time that it was not 'cart path only'. The course plays long but with it drying out, the ball is rolling more. Note - keep it in the fairways - in a couple of weeks, the Bermuda rough will gobble up the shots. Greens are rolling as good as any course in the area. Regular bunkers are in good shape - but there are a number of bunkers that have been abandoned from upkeep, but not converted to either waste areas or sodded pot 'bunkers'.
Pace of play was good.

Worth the money to play this track

Haven't played Pinecrest in over 4 years. The track is well laid out, winding through woods, and features water hazards on 14 holes. Greens, fairways were in excellent, early season condition. This course plays tighter than many because of hazards (stands of trees or water) lining both sides of most fairways. Sand traps were in good shape, however some looked to be a bit thin. Most tee boxes in great shape, but a couple could benefit from having the tee markers moved more frequently.
Overall, my playing partner and I considered this an excellent track, worth the money, and the 19th hole was good value as well.
We'll definitely be back and with friends.
Note: not certain why this course comes up as "private". It is a public course, that offers memberships. All players we talked with were general public.

Great layout, but needs to dry out from the winter

Eagle’s Pointe is a great layout, with the front nine being tighter and more demanding than the back which is more open, but with more water hazards. Full range available for a good warmup. Practice green matched the course conditions.

Staff at the club is always friendly and helpful. Normal rates for the course are very good by area standards.

The only downside with the round today were the course conditions, especially on the front . It has been a very wet winter, and the course has not dried out. A number of the greens on the front nine actually looked like they had flooded , and there was no grass (but they were green from being prepped.

Very playable course, with many greens guarded by bunkers , so putting yourself into position for the approach is key.

Definitely playing it again, but checking on how wet it is before going.

Ready to play Riverview again

This was our 2nd round on this track, the first having been an outing earlier this year. The impression made at that time demanded we try the course "for real". The conditions were excellent, with only some issues in the sand traps due to heavy rains over the past several days. Fairways are gorgeous, staying out of the rough is important, and the greens roll true and fast.

Some course knowledge is important off the tes as the landing zones are not always obvious. Cutting the corner here usually ends up costing a stroke by having to chisel out of the rough. A fair number of bunkers to deal with, and some ponds on the course. Sprinkler heads are marked to center and accurate when checked against range finders. Elevation changes, while not drastic, do demand shot placement. Some forced carries into greens.

An all around great experience and our group committed to return again soon!

FYI - they run a special Monday - Wednesday that includes lunch in the green fee if you tee off before noon - a great deal made even better.

Course is in great shape and weather could not be better

The course was in great shape and completely healed from earlier season punch & sanding on the greens and punching of the fairways. Gorse / wild areas still gobble up the golf balls and don't readily give them back ;-), which is expected for a links type course.

Played the round in 4 hours - even with the course packed with players. Greens rolled very fast and fair.

Always love playing High Bridge Hills because conditions are reliable and green fees are competitive. Ask for the senior rate if you are over 60.

1sr time at Neshanic Valley - and not the last

Played Meadow to Lake 9s under ideal conditions. Fairways had been punched about 10 days prior and were still healing, but conditions were overall outstanding. The course demands a combination of shot placement and occasionally the ability to carry. Thankfully playing in the fall when the gorse had been cut back. Playing the spring / summer would take an extra sleeve or 2 of balls!!

It is understandable why this course is rated so highly. The care and maintenance for a public course is at the top of the list. I did not have my best round, but with some knowledge of the course am now looking forward to playing again.

We used carts but this course is very walkable.

First time good impression - course knowledge is a must

Played Mount Airy for the first time. Chilly, windy day, but an enjoyable round. Course conditions were very good with the lone exception being the condition of the sand traps. It is not so much as to the type of sand being used - that was consistent throughout the course, but rather that the traps do not seem to be raked by the course management staff (easily loosened up by raking), nor by players who were previously in the traps - a lot of footprints, gouges etc.

Course knowledge is a must. Thankfully one of our group played there previously this year and could give us some guidance. Shot-making is a must, and ball placement on a number of holes far outweighs just busting it as far as possible. Several par 5's (including #1) are best played planning a lay-up because the shot is either blind or demands an exact placement and carry.

Will definitely be back as the value is very good, course conditions overall are very good, and the course represents challenges to making good shots regularly.

One last comment - our round finished at 5:15 but we were disappointed to find the pro shop and bar already closed....no 19th hole.

Steadily Improving and definitely on the right track

I typically play Minebrook 6 or so times each year. The improvements made by the new management / ownership team are noticeable. Tee boxes are being taken care of in a way not seen there in previous years. The sand trap conditions are as good as any course in the area, and our group plays a lot of different courses. It's also good to see that management is pricing the golf in line with the course conditions, promoting specials (get on their mailing list!) and really working to make the round an enjoyable experience.

Fairways are in good shape, and the rough has been allowed to grow out a bit - a welcome improvement. Plenty of elevation changes and need for accurate shots to stay out of the trees.

My compliments to the management team, and keep pushing the improvements.

Minebrook continues to get better

After a number of years of "just maintaining" maintaining this course, it is safe to say that Minebrook is showing signs of turning the corner in terms of the quality of the course from tee to green. The care of the staff at the course is really showing!

Greens were in great shape and rolled true. A number of tee boxes have been rebuilt and most tee boxes are now well maintained.

The fairways and rough were lush at the present time. The fairways are not watered, so it depends on the recent weather conditions. Needless to say, New Jersey has had a great season for growing grass! Previous issues with low spots holding water have mostly been addressed, although #6 is the most susceptible to becoming a bog with too much rain. The bunkers have been re-built and filled with sand.

Enjoyable playing there yesterday.

Excellent Value - Classic Course design

Always enjoy playing Water Gap CC. Classic design rewards good shot making. Greens are deceiving because the slopes add speed - stay below the cup!!!

A couple of blind tee shots (#5, #13, #14) lend themselves to playing with someone who knows the course if you are there for the first time. Conditions have always been above average whenever I have played there (Spring, Summer or Fall).

Greens were rolling a bit slow in late May due to the early season / rainy conditions the previous week.

Great value at $60 on the weekend - too bad that plugged and sanded greens were not disclosed at booking

Skyview has always been a beautiful, challenging course. In general, it is well maintained, and good scores depend on making accurate shots. The biggest disappointed on Sunday was finding out that the greens had been punched and sanded the previous week, but not disclosed.

I would definitely play again, because I know how good this course can be.

A secret discovered

I found this course quite by accident the other week - looked intriguing. First chance to play it today - what a gorgeous track! This was formerly a private golf club that was taken over in 2008 by the Township and made public.

The course conditions are outstanding. If you can hit it straight, the driver can be used. Keeping it in play is the key here. Greens rolled true, fairways in great shape, traps are maintained, and there are challenges with forced carries over hazards. This course is a great value.

The one downside is that there is no way to walk this course. From green to the next tee can be upwards of a half mile in some cases, as this beautiful track winds through a large residential development. As the course is not packed, there is a chance that the only people you will see are your playing partners and the beverage cart.

Well worth the visit and I will be back!
