The Jewel is a "10"

18 unique holes meandering alongside and through Mississippi river valley bluffs. Scenery is spectacular. Course design is different from Nicklaus/Palmer/Dye/Fazio courses I have played -- Hale Irwin has his own style. Strategic bunkering throughout. Yet playable to the average golfer with wide fairways and rough. Conditions were pristine. Greens fast, fair, and in perfect condition. I've golfed throughout the U.S., and this course as nice as any Ive played ... it's a "10"

Slowest Round Ever

Great course ... excellent conditions (tees, fairways, greens) ... beautiful canyon layout with lots of elevation change, with some holes adjacent to Wolf Creek ... this course a poor man's Wolf Creek if you will. I have never played a slower round ... had to quit at 11 holes ... would have run out of daylight ... on pace for something like a 6 hour round. Disappointing pace of play ... would have loved to finish playing all 18 holes that I paid for.

Bad Timing

Unbeknownst to us, Mountain Falls GC had aerated greens on both nines. We found this out upon arrival -- was not posted on their site. They had closed the back 9 due to aerating today. We were told to play the front 9 twice -- not what we drove all the way to Pahrump from Vegas for. We finished the front 9, and was too backed up to replay. We asked the pro shop if we could drive the cart around the back 9 to see what we missed, in case we want to come out again. They wouldn't even allow that. Very disappointing visit on several counts.
The course is on flat land, which gives a boring feel compared to others in the Vegas area. It also feels a bit narrow, reminding me of an exec course. It's part of a slow moving housing development. I'd rate it at best a 6.5 of 10. It is not worth the drive from Vegas. My first visit to Pahrump, likely my last. A dusty burg with very little to offer.

sLnr8fzAyT0ab5XGGbJu, I am very sorry to hear that you had such a poor experience with us. Here at Mountain Falls we strive for excellence and that is clearly not what you got. We do struggle with our website updates, something we are currently working on to get more streamlined so that we can keep our customers in the know about things such as aerification. We would really appreciate if you gave us another chance to show you what a great golf experience Mountain Falls can be. Please reach out to me directly at eowens@mountainfallsgolfclub.com, and we will get you setup. We do offer one of the best experiences in Nevada, and I'd feel even worse if you never got to experience it fully. Thank you for your review, yours and others like it help us to be better.

We do offer one of the top tier golf experiences in Southern Nevada and I'd hate for you to miss out on it. Thank you for you're review, we truly take it to heart and will do better.

Fairways are like playing off dirt

Decent layout with nice variation of holes/hazards/greenery. I'd rate this course a 5 on scale of 10. However ... it's winter .... fairways are dormant and is like hitting off of ground (hard pack dirt). It got old fast. I won't play this course again, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone ... for play during dormant season.

Aliante = Nice Desert Course

Pros: nice design and layout with unique holes; Nice desert features including lots of arroyos/dry washes/pines/desert plants; greens/bunkers/tees/ in very good condition; played 18 holes in 3.5 hours on a Sunday; spectacular mountain views including Spring/Sheep/Frenchmen mountain ranges; decent restaurant with great mountain views.
Cons: staff not very friendly; waited 1/2 hour past tee time to get a golf cart -- apparently they're short on carts?!?!?; grass that isn't greens/greenside areas/tees is dormant (yellowish green) and hard packed -- like hitting off dirt.
Highlights are the greens and greenside bunkering -- very nice!
If this course was in pristine condition, I'd rate it 8.5+ on scale of 10. Because of conditions, maybe a 6.5.
I was pleasantly surprised by this course, would play it again, and recommend it.

Las Vegas Muni

Something of a typical big city muni: a large square land area, holes running adjacent to each other, flat, non-descript. This course plays easy compared to most others in the valley -- if you spray your drives, you're not in desert trouble, but rather playing off grass. Some trees and bunkers, but overall not much threat of trouble. The pro-shop seems to have a little trouble getting groups off on time. The pace was ok at 4:15 for 18 holes. Greens, fairways, teeboxes, all in decent shape. Never saw a beverage cart. Could use another porta-jon on the back 9. This course was easy and relaxing to play.

Pleasantly surprised!

After reading reviews, I had low expectations and ended up being pleasantly surprised. Tee boxes, fairways, and especially greens all in decent shape. Wider fairways make this course more playable than others in the desert. Lots of character to this course: variety and numbers of trees, unique holes, well bunkered, water on several holes. The goose poop is no worse than any other course with water. I don't think they overseed for winter but rather let the grass go dormant and spray paint it green, which is not unusal but does create a flatter lie and a little more difficult to hit off of rather than non-dormant thick grass that fluffs the ball some.

$35 is the right price for this course

Fairways, greens, and fringe areas were ok. Par 3s were decent. Course design ok, -- an overall flat course working its way through a housing development..
Bunkers were rock hard. All rough was totally dried out with large dirt areas. Fairways were narrowest I've played . . . like 20 - 25 yards wide. End up in the 'rough' and you'll likely be hitting off dirt. I paid $35 to play -- would not pay any more than that. I wouldn't play this course again -- of the 20 courses I've played in Vegas, this ranks at the very bottom. If you're in Vegas for a golf trip, don't play this course. At one time this course and clubhouse were probably impressive ... but they've really let conditions go.

Enjoyable round of golf!

Course is part of the upscale, gated Siena community in Summerlin. This course has a lot of character, unique hole designs, spread out through the community, good conditions, and very sloped greens (work to get your 2 putt). There are plenty of hazards (water, desert, bunkers, arroyos), but this course is very playable -- making it a relaxing and enjoyable round. The fairways are decently wide, with a good amount of rough, and then plenty of desert buffer between cart path and homes. This course has more desert involved in the course than other home community courses I've played. Also nice views of mountains and strip. Perfect course for visitors and locals alike.

Great Design, Poor Conditions

Great design by Tom Fazio, 10 on a scale of 10.
Conditions = 3.
Fazio design is superb. Each hole a unique treat, full of character (sand/waste/water), elevation change, rolling terrain, elevated tee boxes and greens.
Locals I golfed with said conditions were worst they've ever seen. Like Primm letting the desert course go. Large bare spots in fairways. Some fairways have significant portions of brown grass (dormant?). No pattern to pin placements and no flag colors, so never sure if it's placed in front/mid/back. Some flagsticks missing their flag. Greens with lots of old ballmarks, and hoove prints from local animals. And plenty of dung piles all around from them.
Although the conditions are poor, it still can be played fine and I would recommend due to the excellent design. Would not pay top dollar for those conditions though.

Masterpiece

Best course I've played. Felt like I played one signature hole after the other. A masterpiece by Jack. So much creativity in the design of the holes. Layout, bunkering, design, conditions, greens, tee boxes, fairways .... I rate them all a 10. And the course blends perfectly in its beautiful desert surroundings, plus mountain and strip views.. The course runs through a housing development, but the homes are backed off and at times you forget about them. The homes are spectacular by the way. Add this course to your Vegas must-play short list. I just can't put into words how special this course is.

Sun City Course

This course reminds me of other Sun City courses, also designed by Casper/Nash. Highland Falls feels somewhat like an exec course due to it's compact feel -- tightly wound through a housing development, fairways are typically narrow (40 yds or less) with about 20 yds of rough on each side, some small greens. The par 3's are excellent, with one offering views of the valley from it's elevated tee box. The course has plenty of bunkers, some water, elevation changes, rolling terrain, mountain and valley views. The slowest greens I've played -- like shag carpeting. Good course for locals. This wouldn't be a must play course for golfers coming into town for a golf trip.

A tale of two nines

Front 9 was flat, non descript, and somewhat dried out conditions. The back 9 was built into the hillside and featured rolling terrain, elevation changes, lusher/greener, and conditions better. I would rate this course a 6 on a scale of 10. I don't expect I'll play it again. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to play it, unless you get a cheap price on greens fees. It meanders through a housing development, which included a barking dog, people talking on their deck, and various lawn power equipment sounds. Course conditions were average at best. I didn't go in the clubhouse, but from the outside looked like a one-time temporary setup.

Special Course!

In terms of course design, I've played none better. Tom Fazio has you thinking out each shot. The course features unique holes, elevation changes, rolling terrain, water, plenty of bunkers, elevated tee boxes and greens. The conditions had a few rough patches on greens and fairways, and could use more watering -- I wouldn't call it lush -- but overall very good. The clubhouse and restaurant are excellent. A must play course if in Vegas. I look forward to the next time I play there.

Top shelf experience

Rhodes Ranch has a private, country club feel. Conditions were as lush and pristine as any course I've seen. Nice layout with some elevation changes, lots of bunkers, and some water. It does meander through a housing development, but the homes/yards never come into play. I strongly recommend this course. It is now in my Vegas top 5 to play list.
I deduct 1 star from 'Staff Friendliness' due to the starter. A young lad wearing a bandit style covid mask and sunglasses, covering his entire face, was not approachable/outgoing or all that helpful. Carried something of an attitude. The rest of the staff were very friendly!

Great desert course

Love this course! Excellent desert course -- not a housing development! Great, close by mountain views. This course has a lot of features: bunkering, water hazards, elevation change, rolling terrain. Conditions anywhere near the green were superb. fairways looked like they could use a little more water, but played just fine. Tee boxes were commonly elevated and in good condition. We played Coyote Run and Desert Hawk courses. Great layout with a unique feel to each hole. This course is now in my top 5 for Vegas to-play courses.
