Stone Canyon Club
Played On 10/06/2020Walking accessibility req'd. for best courses
If walk in the park test is an important part of a great course rating, most assuredly it is, then how can golf digest rate this course so high. The course is not walkable, also it is down right dangerous to walk. To be considered a valid chsp. course I believe it must be walkable, otherwise it might be considered a real estate development.
Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
Played On 11/05/2019The PGA Tour Selects Good Courses For Tournaments
I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to play the Catalina and Sonoran courses at Tucson National a few times. Without question the Catalina is a pro's course (or low handicap) with good hole geometry, good greens with nice contours, and the course is well maintained. Also, you can walk the course as opposed to many of the so-called ranked courses in Arizona which are just looking to increase their profit by making you rent carts.
Old Corkscrew Golf Club
Played On 03/02/2016Old Corkscrew Review
I have played this course 4-5 times and fortunately I booked thru Golfnow 3/2/16. The course layout is good and basically for the accomplished golfer. Tees and greens (approx. 9+ on stempmeter) were acceptable, however there was significant difference in speed and condition of the greens, my above est. on stemp is for the average. The fairways were very thin with little bermuda grass and the sand was very prevelant in the fairways. Most of the sand bunkers were acceptable, some were not, by that I mean, bedrock hard sand. Practice facilities were acceptable and the balls were your typical good range balls. Under current turf conditions I would suggest golfnow booking. The course could benefit with an over seeding of rye grass to provide just some form of organic growth beneath the bermuda. The course is not meant to be walked given distances from green to next tee.
Hueston Woods Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2015Good tournament course
I last played this course several years ago, now it is tournament quality. Tees, fairways and greens good condition. I play senior mini-tour events and this course has the layout and quality of greens of most any private golf club. The sand bunkers could use some additional drainage.
Elks Run Golf Club
Played On 09/18/2014Good course for competitive golf
Fairways were tightly mowed and greens were somewhat fast and smooth (est 10 on stemp). Staff was great. Played in less than 4 hrs. They need to have a program for golfers to fix pitch marks and divots. Good course layout.
