Typical Pope Golf

This course was just like every other course managed by Pope Golf. Not bad, but could be so much better.
The layout is nice. Some different, interesting holes. The greens ran fast but true. They were a little sparse and had some bad spots which is typical this time if year but overall pretty good. The tee boxes aren’t bad. Level, but beat up. Especially the par 3s. But again, typical this time of year.
This is where my issue comes in, and this is typical of most of the courses run by Pope.
The fairways and greens have lots of weeds. They bunkers are terrible. The edges are destroyed. Some had hardly any sand and it looked like they hadn’t been spun in days.
The course has numerous oaks and the rough and fairways are covered in leaves. Run a blower! It seems as though Pope does just enough to get by, but no more. Almost all of there courses look like this. Trim some trees. Clean some leaves. Spray some weeds. Take care of the traps.
Overall, if you are looking for a cheap round to get out and hit the ball around and practice or are taking beginners who don’t need a upscale course, you will enjoy it. If you are looking for top conditions go elsewhere.
I would play again, just wish they would put more effort into it

Pope took over January 1st, how do you expect them to do all the things that you mentioned during the non-growing time of the year? How could they have sprayed the weeds in the greens and fairways in January and February? As a long time Tatum Ridge member I am thrilled with the improvements they have made since they took over!

People don't understand course maintenance

Course is in a typical june in florida mode. All courses aerify 2 to 3 times between may and august. Greens in good shape for being recently aerified.
They are currently upgrading their irrigation so a hole or 2 has to be closed so the workers can work. No course conditions are ever noted on golf now you have to call first if that is a concern of yours this time of year.
They are also really attacking the weed growth that is common on every course during rainy season, so there are some rough spots on the greens. But they putt really true and accurate. Everybody wants oakmont greens then complain when they burn out from tryimg to achieve this, but these greens are very green.
The fairways are some of the nicest around, tight and plush with very little weed growth. The only bad spots, naturally are where the irrigation work is being done.
Someone also complained about the bunkers being bad after a rain storm. Well, no kidding! These bunkers are always nice and i know they are typically raked everyday day. It was just bad luck/timing on their part.
Pace can be slow at certain times of the day, due in part to the 4 par 3s on the front nine. Usually, the back nine opens up.
