The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 08/11/2023Anniversary round
Our 17th anniversary round of golf. Worth the 2 hour drive. Look forward to playing it again. The 1st time at the Quarry, with so many elevation changes, made it challenging but was also part of its appeal as we played on. Expect to do better the next time around. The course was in great shape though some of our tee boxes were a little rough(seniors and womens).
Staff was very friendly and accomodating from the clubhouse to the starter to our bartender and wait staff.
Oglebay Resort - Par-3 Course
Played On 08/13/2022Anniversary round
Went to Oglebay to celebrate our 16th anniversary.
The staff was very friendly. The single, Marsh, we invited up to play along was a pleasure.
The lies on the Jones course were a real challenge. the only hole I didn't care for was #5. Hit my drive to the very top of the fairway only to have role the whole way down to the other side and into the rough. the slope from left to right is extreme. Makes the fairway obsolete.
will play the course again, though.
Looking forward to playing the Palmer next.
Del-Mar Golf Course
Played On 08/26/2017Worth the drive
Del Mar is 70 minutes away but it is worth the drive for the value. We play it a couple of times a year. Their greens are the highlight of the course. always in great condition and fast. no traps but plenty of trees if you venture away from the fairways.
3 Lakes Golf Course
Played On 7/6/2013The layout and the terrain of the course will challenge every aspect of your game
The course was in great shape from the tee boxes to the greens with the exception of a couple of areas that did not drain well from all of the recent rains. The fairways and greens were country club quality. The rolling hills created some challenging uphill/downhill lies. Beware the green side bunkers. I found so many I actually played well out of the last 3 or 4.
I will definitely play it again.
Pittsburgh National Golf Club
Played On 5/4/2013Course is on its way back to previously near pristine condtion
PN fell into disrepair a couple of years ago but is being given the attention in needs to restore it to its former self. The fairways and greens are very good though there are still some small spots where the grass has not grown back. The rough seems a bit patchy yet. Our problem Sunday was we showed up at 12:30 for a 12:58 tee time and did not tee off until 1:40. All of the carts were out on the course and everyone was waiting for them to come in. It took 40 minutes for the 1st 4some, from the time we arrived, to show up at the 18th green to provide carts for the group in front of us. The next group didn't show up on 18 until 1:30. My group had just gotten our carts off of a 5some(?) that called it a day at the 5th tee due to the slow pace of play(stacked 3 deep at the tee box). Our round was 5 hour. Have played the course several times and this was a first.
Tam O'Shanter of Pennsylvania
Played On 4/28/2013A lot to like about the course
The course was in great condition from tee to green and in the rough, especially for this time of year and after the extended winter we had. The back nine is short even from the tips but some of the hole layouts keep it challenging. It's an hour drive for me but well worth the trip. If only it had a nice bar to hang out in afterwards to discuss the round over a couple of drinks. The cafeteria style dining area needs an upgrade. Nice pro shop though.
Conley Resort
Played On 4/13/2013Nice course but overpriced
The fairways and greens are always in good condition and it has its challenging holes but it's regular rates are overpriced. The GolfNow rates make it more worthwhile.
Thanks so much for the great review, PensRock. We look forward to welcoming you back to our course soon. Thanks for choosing The Quarry Golf Club.
