Pinewood Country Club
Played On 06/06/2019Pinewood CC Rocks
A very friendly but challenging enough course. The marsh that meanders throughout the course comes into play on several holes (especially if you are NOT a long hitter), either on the sides of right in front of you. The greens seem to roll true and are very fast going downhill and really just average speed going uphill. Breaks are very slight and can fool you at times. Fairways are wide and very nicely maintained. Bunker sand is thick and heavy and will test you.
Woodhaven Country Club
Played On 03/29/2019Woodhaven Rocks
Two friends from San Francisco played with two of us from Sun City Shadow Hills and we had a GREAT time. The course is in excellent shape and this time we played from the White Tees (5,254 yds instead of the Blue Tees at 5,827 yds) and all of us enjoyed it immensely (we are 24-30 hdcps). Fairways are smooth and very green, traps have nice sand, tee boxes are in great shape and the greens are the jewel of this track. They are fast but fair so stay below the pin if you could. Starter was very friendly and helpful, even other players were helpful too. Only one small issue. A few tee boxes are too close the green of the previous hole and players hot our cart twice. But no one got hurt and they did yell "fore" and they did appologize.
Mesquite Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/27/2019Mesqute GC is Storm Damaged
First off, I like Mesquite GC and have played there numerous times. But today, I played it with some friends from San Francisco and did NOT realize how much the recent storm has damaged it. I wish the Pro Shop would have warned us about the playing conditions instead of pointing us to the temp scorecard with numerous hole revisions. We still did not get a feel for the damaged course until we finished 17 and 18. But like I said I have played it before and would have rated it a high 3 star course. But right now (until it is fixed) it should offer discounted golf rates for the tough condition of the course.
Creek/Oaks at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort
Played On 12/20/2017HOT DEAL Temecula Creek Overrated
We were surprised that Temecula Creek was not nearly as good as their rating. We had 3 beginners in front of us who were slow, left their cart all over the place and at times on the cart path, other times drove down the fairway of Par 3s and even parked their cart right next to the green. Worst of all we complained to the marshal (only time we saw him), whose reply was "it's gonna be slow today anyway", not a good answer, he didn't even speak to the 3 beginners at all. Lucky for us on the 10th hole one of their carts broke down and we played through. Tee boxes/greens are just ok, fairways were irregular with lots of brown stuff and some mud, some bunkers were not even raked (I even had to hit out of a footprint), and the starter told us they were a couple minutes behind, then told us there was a 20 minutes delay and finally called us at our original start time. Very confusing and frustrating.
Oakcreek Country Club
Played On 07/14/2017Oakcreek GC Rocks
Played this course with friends who played Sedona Resort the day before. They said Oakcreek was better and I agree. The views are stunning amongst the red rocks, tee boxes perfect, fairways smooth, bunker sand more than adequate, and tough to read medium fast greens (with subtle breaks away from the red rocks). But all Trent Jones courses are nice and mostly very playable with various tees to play from. Will return soon. Oh, staff were very welcoming and nice (not sure about the staff complaints from others)
Escena Golf Club
Played On 03/30/2017Escena Rocks
Played Escena again after 6 years and found it to be even more beautiful than before. Tee boxes were in excellent shape, fairways were terrific, bunkers were very playable with fine sand, and greens rolled medium fast and, more importantly, consistent from hole to hole. It was a windy day and when we reached the15th hole it was blowing pretty hard (15 mph?) and by the time we hit the 18th hole it was really blowing. But we all had an enjoyable round of golf at a very high class "resort" type golf course.
Legend at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/04/2017Tahquitz Creek Legends Course
Haven't played this course in over 10 years but I must say I was very disappointed in the course conditions especially Holes #1, #9, #17 and #18 where you have to carry the wash area. The carry was over dirt, mud, birds, water, and weeds and was about as ugly as it can get in winter conditions. I'm not sure if this was an anomaly or these were the normal playing conditions, but it was embarrassing for an Opening/Closing hole. I realize this used to be a muni course but it's not even close to the Resort Course.
Elephant Rocks at Williams
Played On 05/20/2016Elephant Rocks GC
Visiting Flagstaff and wanted to play neighboring public courses; unfortunately played in 25 mph winds in 67 degree temps. It was miserable so it's really hard to rate this course properly. Tee boxes are nice (only 3 of them), fairways are average, bunkers are ok, and greens are fairly consistent (medium fast). Cart paths are rocks and bumpy. Pace is slow, but a foursome let us play through. Layout is strange, with back nine a totally different track. Very long and short par 4s and a few long par 3s from the White Tees. Finishing holes 17 and 18 are terrific to play. Will play again for sure in better conditions.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - North Course
Played On 03/28/2016Indian Canyon North Course
Played this course many years ago and decided to bring three friends with handicaps from 16 to 30. We all enjoyed playing the course because of the super wide fairways and relatively flat terrain. Greens were a little slow and the bunker sand was chunky. Tee boxes were in good shape and the fairways were not too bad either. Very little water that comes into play but we still found it. Ugh. A few dogleg holes were difficult not knowing where to hit but overall it was a pleasant experience for a bunch of weekend hackers. It would've been nice to have a drink after our round onsite; we had to go across the street to the South Course.
Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 03/27/2016Marriott Desert Springs Palms Course
Took three friends from SF here to play (handicaps 16-30) and the high handicappers thought the course was too hard for them with forced carries, too many blind fairway shots, elevated greens, slow greens, lots of water coming into play, and slow pace of play. However, it is a very pretty and challenging course and is in excellent condition.
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions Course
Played On 03/31/2014Champions Back Nine Beat Me Up
I'm a 21 handicapper and played the Champions course (first time). The front nine was challenging but not easy and I shot 46. The back nine was a totally different experience; it played extremely tough with touch elevation changes, lots of forced carries beyond my 170-180 yard drives/fairway wood, I had to use a lob wedge to get out of a few 10 foot deep bunkers, the rough was very rough, a few holes were very narrow, the greens were slow going uphill but pretty fast going down on the undulating greens. Overall, the course beat me up, finished the back 10 shots worst than the front.
Delta View Golf Course
Played On 8/10/2013Pittsburg's Delta View GC
Haven't played this course in a few years and I must say it is still in pretty decent shape. Tee boxes are fair, fairways are ok, greens are consistent and medium slow, but sand in bunkers is like concrete. Where there used to be water hazzards are now deep grass bunkers (and there are still red stakes there?). Wind is still fierce and the course is still very hilly with lots of forced carries, doglegs and blind shots. Par 3's are very tough, especially when you have to carry 165 over water into the wind. Plenty of fairways slope left to right so a drive down the middle gets you to the right rough most of the time and sometimes all the way to the boundry fence (be careful, mine went through the chain link fence and onto the street). Some people call it a billy goat course.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - West
Played On 8/6/2013West course is still well maintained, greens are medium fast and very consistent throughout.
Haven't played the West course in a few years, so it was a pleasant surprise that the course was in very good shape, well maintained, and the greens were medium fast and more importantly, were consistent all day. Pace of play was good, not great, and we finished in 4 hours and 20 mins.
Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 7/22/2013Rancho Solano Rocks
I was born in SF and have played nearly all the Bay Area courses (many times). I have been retired in Palm Springs for three years now and have played many courses down there. I'm in the Bay Area for four months this year (2013), playing golf 2-3 times a week, and I must say I am terribly disappointed with a lot of the course conditons except one, and that is Rancho Solano. Tee boxes are very good, fairways are excellent, nice sand in the traps, and most importantly, the greens are huge, fast and very consistent. This is what I remember from 3-4 years ago and I am very pleased that the Rancho Solano maintenance crew and Pro Shop staff are still #1 in my book. A must play for any avid golfer!
Corica Park - The Earl Fry North Course
Played On 6/14/2013Earl Fry Golf Course
Playing from the white tees at 5700 yards and a 116 slope made for a very relaxing and enjoyable day of golf, great for posting a decent score for anyone. Tee boxes are ok, fairways are ok, but golf cart paths are rough and bumpby, greens are good sized and medium fast (but very consistent) and ALL courses should have red, white and blue pin positioning flags like this course. Cafe has good food and rest rooms were clean and well maintained. Staff were very nice and friendly.
Desert Dunes Golf Course
Played On 3/25/2013Course is still one of the best values in the desert!
Desert Dunes, more of a links style course, has always been one of my favorites because it is unlike most desert courses. It has "real" rough which makes it difficult around the elevated greens. Well maintained and very fast greens roll true with grading, tiers and sloping. Fairways are nice and a big plus for straight hitters. Fine sand in bunkers make it easier to get out.
Woodhaven Country Club
Played On 3/24/2013Great Value
This course layout is tight and the homes are at time right next to you. You better hit it straight here! Greens are very nice and are medium fast and pretty consistent throughout. The course is not real long from the whites, but again, if you can't hit it fairly straight you will be in lots of trouble (the homeowners, however, are super friendly folks. One OB shot was greeted with a Welcome to Woodhaven!).
Thank you for playing with us and we hope your next round will be a 5 star experience.
We appreciate the feedback.
