Omni Bedford Springs Resort - Old Course
Played On 07/11/2022Incredible golf experience on a wonderful summer day
If you like classic golf course design on a marvelously manicured track, with soft yet speedy carpets of luxurious fairways and greens, check this out.
It would be hard to find a more striking 18 holes nestled in a landscape of creeks, streams, woodlands and fescue.
I loved this course……
LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 01/04/2022Very nice Country Club with good golf course
Beautiful country club in Naples.
Wonderful facility and staff. Golf course is good with some challenging holes. There are too many straight away par 4’s.
Conditions were excellent with fast and firm greens.
Pace of play was bad. Nearly 5+ hours.
Dormie Club
Played On 04/01/2021Pure, straightforward golf paradise
I’ve played all the Pinehurst area courses, with many memorable golf experiences.
Love all the Donald Ross courses, Tobacco Road magnificent, but DC is a contender for tops in area.
First of all, it’s never crowded. Everywhere else, at this time of year, is jammed.
The design is fantastic. Every hole a challenge of skill and strategy.
Zero real estate other than some cottages being built for members overnight stays.
Conditions are very good......I imagine in 6 weeks, it will be pristine.
Highly respected golf course lives up to its billing.
TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course
Played On 03/30/2021Bucket list on perfect day
On a scale of 0-100, this was a 98.
Olympic Gold.
I’m so lucky to have the chance to experience this course when it was a sunny 78 degrees with a tiny breeze.
I’ll be dreaming about this for a long time.
Hawk's Landing Golf Club
Played On 03/21/2021Waste of time and money
The best part of the golf course are the greens. Smooth and fast, but not tricked up.
Pace of play was horrible. On the final hole, there were 3 groups on tee, waiting. Conditions were average, design was nothing special, traffic noise all around the golf course.
No way this is a 4 star.
Links at Perry Cabin
Played On 10/20/2020Conditions were poor
Had great expectations that were not met.
After 30 inches of rain in last 60 days, the course was in poor shape. For $195 per player, it was a money grab.
Someone should have explained the conditions or given us a discount.
Course had some nice holes; some were throwaways stuffed into the real estate.
As a villa owner at Casa de Campo, with 108 Pete Dye holes, this was not up to his level of excellence
This is a strong pass.
Leatherstocking Golf Course
Played On 09/25/2020Highly overrated
Not quite sure how this course is so grossly overrated.
There are some beautiful views; I came to be challenged and wasn’t.
Conditions were good not great.
Pace of play not good.
This course is for hobbyists and not low handicaps.
Go play Seven Oaks.
Never again.
Seven Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/31/2020Always a pleasant round of golf
Had a chance to play here recently.
Splendid conditions...greens especially.
Not crazy difficult.
Played 18 in less than 3 hours and 15 minutes.
A nice value and easily walkable.
Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 08/28/2020A nice course for the #3 at TS
The original track(although rerouted) is a very, very good golf course. Always in great condition, generous fairways but treacherous greens.
Many well framed holes with well positioned bunkers.
Only gripe is that it is so close to a highway, some holes on front side are loud.
Kaluhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 08/27/2020My favorite of the 3 at Turning Stone
The three golf courses at Turning Stone are all excellent.
None are easy, but Kaluhyat is the toughest.
Loved Shenandoah and Atunyote is a treat.
But K is King. A beautiful 18 holes, each requiring precise shot making-not many layouts this demanding. Add +5 if wind is blowing.
Not for hobbyists.
Cape Cod National Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2020Exquisite golf experience
Played here 3xs in the last few days.
Exceptional course and conditions on perfect blue sky days. Slow play an issue 2 of 3 days.
Ojai Valley Inn
Played On 06/25/2019Amazing golf in Ojai
My wife and I traveled a great distance to spend time in Ojai; specifically to play golf here.
The course lives up to its pedigree. Conditions were superb. I love old classic courses that test all aspects of your game. This is well worth it.
Pasatiempo Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2019Simply spectacular
Waited 4 decades for my opportunity to play Pasatiempo and just checked it from my bucket list. One of the greatest golf courses that a regular guy can have access to. Just need the game to compete against it. And the golf Gods smiled upon me with a sparkling 72 degree day and my A game.
It is in the same league as Spyglass and Pebble Beach.
La Romana Country Club - 9-hole Course
Played On 12/04/2018Members refer to this as the “New Nine”
This 9 is the toughest by far of the 3. Long and wide open, it features excellent conditions, difficult green complexes and nice views. Due to its degree of difficulty, most members play the original 18. For better golfers, the blues feature 450 yd par 4’s and 200+yd par 3s, usually with some wind.
The Olympic Club - Lake Course
Played On 07/15/2018Bucket list moment
Lost a little sleep the night before this past Sunday.
Was invited back in January to play Olympic but had to cancel my visit to SF. Luckily, my schedule had me return to Northern California this month.
Arrived early in tour the historic clubhouse and grounds. The men’s locker room is its own health club, complete with indoor pool. This is the real deal.
And the course, 5 time US Open venue, is nearly perfect. This is a manicured masterpiece. Every shot is special. Tee shots go uphill and downhill, right to left and left to right to fairly wide fairways. And then, precision and distance control is rewarded if correct and penalized if just slightly off.
Green complexes are extreme. Gaping bunkers surround every putting surface. Two putt pars turn into bogeys or worse if you miss any green.
I thought the speed of greens was a little slow. No more than 9 stimp.
Played well enough to walk away happy and feeling that I had some success.
Thanks Dan B for the invite
Carmel Valley Ranch Resort
Played On 07/11/2018Nice but too easy
Instead of the extreme challenges at Pasatiempo, my wife and I opted for the scenic Carmel Valley.
This turned out to be a beautiful choice for an adventure.
Being so close to the chaos of Carmel yet in the valley and vineyards of this resort made this special.
The golf course is beautiful and well maintained almost like a private club. The afternoon we played was a little crowded and somewhat slow but the scenery is worth the wait.
For me, there were too many 350 yard par 4s and every par 3 is a mountain goat downhill demon.
This course is best for the real beginner and the older golfer who loves being able to hit par 4s in regulation.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 07/10/2018Wonderful public golf for Bay Area
Thanks to Golf Advisor, I discovered this course and all its great reviews.
Turned out to be a fine test of golf on well manicured fairways and fast true greens for $65 per player.
Scenic winding holes on terrain that requires precise shotmaking makes this layout a real test.
I played on five courses in the 8 days in California, 2 on very private country clubs, and Cinnabar had the finest greens.
Wish I lived in San Jose to play this regularly.
My wife, who is a 30 handicap also loved it.
CordeValle Golf Club
Played On 07/09/2018Great but very expensive
My wife and I recently stayed at the Rosewood luxury hotel associated with Cordevalle. First time playing, we were required to have a caddie. This makes for a phenomenal golf experience; however, it cost us an extra $250.
The golf course is splendid. Precise iron play is needed and bunkers are everywhere. Greens were good and for the money should have been smoother and quicker.
Service is excellent.
On the second round, we waited for a late afternoon tee time and avoided the need for a caddie.
At $175 per player it’s still costly but where else can you experience a billionaires country club in the Bay area?
It’s a great test for an advanced player.....not for beginners.
Seaside at Sea Island Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2018A great golf course....
Had the chance to spend sometime at the Lodge at Sea Island and played golf at this special place.
Perfect weather, spectacular course conditions, great caddie and ideal pace of play made for an ideal day on this wonderful course.
In the same league as the Ocean Course at Kiawah; much less crowded.
Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 08/30/2017Best public golf course and experience in upstate NY
Whenever I really want to treat myself, my golf partner and I will drive 90 minutes and spend a day here at Atunyote.
Closest thing to being a member at an exclusive country club, it is well worth the money.
For starters, the minute those huge gates open to let you enter, you know this is a special place.
The grounds are spectacular....no real estate development, no traffic noise and flowers everywhere.
Clubhouse is incredible....built for when the PGA tournament was held here.
Practice facility is beyond exceptional. And they do not mind you spending lots of time even after the round.
Golf course is a 10. It's a Tom Fazio design. Conditions can't be better as they spend lots to maintain it and limit the number of rounds played daily.
Love the layout....not super demanding off the tees but challenging approaches needed. Greens smooth as can be imagined.
Staff are friendly, professional and accommodating.
The sister courses of Shenandoah and Kaluyut are very good but not in the same league/price.
I'm not a casino guy, but I love Turning Stone for golf.
How did you get on?
