Excellent Day

My wife and I were looking for a quick round on our vacation and found the executive length of The Landings to be perfect.

"Rough" doesn't really exist and the fairways were a little bare in some places, but the greens were all in great share. I was surprised by how firm they were. Even a high wedge wouldn't leave a ball mark but they were still receptive and the shots would hold.

Would definitely go back!

Side note: I end up leaving my wallet in one of the carts. Luckily I remembered the cart number and the staff went out to the course and tracked the cart down and my wallet. THANK YOU!

Golf Boards!

When my wife and I were looking for places to play on our trip to Vegas, we were looking for an experience. We came across Las Vegas National which marketed their Golf Boards.

After the first few holes we thought we would only be able to use them for 9 holes. They were murder on your arms... but at around the 4th hole we started to get the hang of it and use our body more.

When we played it was cart path only due to the recent over seeding, with the golf boards we could at least ride in the rough.

Golf course was in great condition and you catch a few glimpses of the strip hotels to remind you where you really are.

Nice course for a Vegas vacation

Had a great time at Angel Park. Over seeding was just done so it was cart path only, so that slowed pace of play, but we expected that.

Greens were a little slow, but I'm sure that's in an effort to keep them from getting burnt out.

If you go after over seeding look out for pigeons!

Beautiful views all around!

Greens on the back recently aerated

All the greens on the back seem to have been recently aerated, so the balls had a bumpy ride on the way to the hole. Also, it doesn't seem like others take care of their ball marks on the greens compared to some other courses.

Other than the greens the course was in good shape. Some of the tee boxes were torn up but I think that was just because the course is over played.

Sand traps were very packed down, so you really need to play the ball like a chip and make ball first contact. Or just avoid them...

Pace of play was what I had expected for a Sunday afternoon.

Finally there are a lot of parallel fairways and greens that come close to one another so you do need to keep an eye out for errant shots.

Used every club in the bag

Decided to play here while visiting family in Metcalfe with my wife.
There are few courses that require me to use every club in my bag, but this one a true test for shot makers.

There are a number of dog leg holes where getting the the corner is crucial to make a par. But other than these holes everything is pretty much right in front of you. There are only 1 or 2 blind shots.

The fairways and greens were all in great shape, but some of the tee boxes have seen better days.

The course didn't seem to drain so well considering the last rain they had was 2 or 3 days ago.

Overall a great time, and will likely play again when I am in the area.

Tough in the wind

The morning we played the wind really picked up and you really had to choose your clubs wisely. Something which I didn't always do...

As most have said the fairways and greens were in great condition. There were a couple spots where they had marked ground under repair but nothing serious.

It didn't seem like there was a lot of sand on the course, but they were all well placed and I found a bunch of them. However, that gave me a chance to test the consistency throughout and they seemed to all be very similar.

A few of the par 3s forced carries over a pond to reach the green.

Great group outing

I went to Saskatoon with a large group of guys and we played all 36 on a Saturday.

With each 9 being different, an 18 hole round doesn't seem consistent as the setup is so different between the 9s.

Overall the fairways and greens were in good shape. The greens were pretty soft so you didn't get much role out of your shots, but you could throw in high shots that would stick.

Gold: Some of the nicest holes on the course. A couple longer par 4s and short par 5s. Other than the island green there aren't any trick holes. It's pretty much all in front of you. Greens were more undulating here.

Red: Again pretty straight forward, everything is right in front of you. A couple holes with elevated greens of tee boxes. A reachable par 4, take the opportunity for birdie here.

Blue: Most holes involve some sort of elevation change. So make sure to take the right club. There are a couple trick holes where you need to be careful with your club selection and without yardages to the landing areas it can be tough. VERY TIGHT fairways. Sometimes a layup to a good yardage is the right play.

White: Unlike the blue which it's paired with, it's much more wide open. But very similar with lots of elevation change. Most of the greens were pretty flat. There were very few putts that broke more than a foot.

Great course for a group

I came to College Fields with a big group of guys, some of which had played it before.

Very pleased with the setup. There were some good challenges but missing the green wasn't too much trouble as most had a generous approach area surrounding the green.

There are a couple holes were there is hidden trouble. For example, #11. The pro tip was to go for the middle tree at the dog leg. Hit it a good shot very slightly left of that and it went into a hidden pond.

Girls at the patio bar were great. Very friendly and handled a large group of drunk guys great.

Great course with great views

Innerkip has been on my list of must plays for a few years now and the main draw was the signature island green on #5. However, this isn't why I will be coming back.

The course was in amazing shape, from tee to green. This was actually one of the only courses that I have played that have a first cut of rough. Which was nice because if you just miss the fairway, the first cut is still short enough to be considered fairway on some courses.

The greens were in excellent shape, although they might have been a little firm. I think I only had 1 or two ball marks from high wedge shots onto the green. All the greens were also very consistent throughout the round, which made putting a treat for once.

I will see you soon Innerkip!

Fairways under repair

All the greens were in excellent shape. They were consistent across the course.

There were a number of fairways where there was ground under repair while they completed some over seeding. And at least half a dozen fairways (blue to white) that haven't been cut in a little while as the grass was slightly shorter than the rough.

Great track in a little town

For a Saturday afternoon that was slightly overcast this course was completely deserted. Save for a few members I saw nobody on the course.

I can tell the grounds crew care about this course. It was in great condition. However, my one gripe was that they might care a little too much. At 1pm on 14th hole a groundskeeper was putting down what I have to assume was a pesticide (they left big white globs - see pic). This seems like something that should be done outside of business hours. It all would have been fine had he not stopped to give me the gears about playing into him.

Overall though I had a great time. I will come back!

Surprisingly dry

My wife and I played mid week so we didn't expect it to be busy, but because the temperature dropped it was basically deserted. We played with a cart and finished in less then 4 hours. However, I have played here on the weekends and it is not uncommon to have a 5 hour round.

The day and night before we played the region was hit with about 30mm of rain. I thought the course was going to be wet, but it drained very well. There was very little water in the course and we didn't feel the fairways squashing beneath our feet as we walked. The only exception was the bunkers. They were either flooded or compacted and unplayable.

Greens were in great condition, rough was cut at a good length. The course was set up for the weekend hacker to have a good time which was nice for a change.

I tend to stick to a cart here. I'm sure I could walk the course but there are many holes that are far apart so there is a lot of walking between holes.

As many have mentioned the naturalization areas across the 401 are everywhere so lost balls are a common occurrence.

Overall Doon is always a great place to come and play and the weekday and weekend after 12 prices are hard to beat.

Very wet, but still played well

My wife an I played Ariss on a Sunday morning 2 days after a big rain fall, but the drainage on the course is poor. There was lots of casual water in many of the fairways, and the bunkers were either filled with water or compacted and unplayable.

Although the fairways and bunkers remained very wet the greens did play very well. They were soft and held approach shots with ease. I almost expected them to be slow but they were almost on the fast side. However, they ran nice and true and we're very well kept.

The course is quite hilly but still very walkable. We completed the front 9 in about 2 hours, but we collided on the Lakes with a few groups from the Pines playing the same back 9 as us. Although we waited a bit to tee off on 10, we still played in 4.5 hours.

I would recommend this course as long as there has not been a heavy rainfall a few days before.

A beautiful challenge

Red Hawk is always on our groups play list when we go down each July. I have played in 3 times now and each time has been a different playing experience. The first time I played real well, and the others so so. However, each time the course delighted.

Fairways and greens have always been in great shape.

Don't expect to walk this course. It is VERY hilly (nice views though) and there are some long stretches between a few holes.

It is off the beaten path but it is well worth the journey!
