Lakewood National Golf Club - Piper Course
Played On 03/20/2020A Mixed Review
We played on a very hot afternoon and we were fortunately warned ahead of time to bring our own water. The cups were raised so you didn't have to touch and remove the flagsticks. Other restrictions were in place (no beverage cart) because of COVID- 19. The course has a terrific layout but the greens are hard as a rock and do not hold most approach shots. Most people play the blue tees (6134 yards) or the black tees (6499 yards) and the course is extremely challenging in windy weather. Pace of play was somewhat slow as expected. The practice facility is excellent. The course will be significantly better in a year or 2 after fairway/green maturation and completion of the housing construction.
Lakewood National Golf Club - Commander Course
Played On 03/18/2020A Terrific Layout
The Commander course has a beautiful layout and is very challenging when played from the National (Black) tees of 6375 yards. From the first hole (par 5) until the last (also par 5), it was an enjoyable experience. The greens are firm and fast (11) and often difficult to hold. There are many undulations on the large greens. Carts have very accurate GPS systems which obviate the need for a range finder. The practice facility is outstanding. Holes 10, 11 and 12 are the most difficult holes on the course, especially when played in a headwind.
Sarasota National Golf Club
Played On 03/14/2019SLOW, SLOW PLAY
If you enjoy a 4 hr 50 min round, come play this course. The day was nice but the pace of play was not! The ranger drove around and said hello to the golfers but avoided any discussion about speeding up play. The course layout is average with some interesting holes and many that are not. The conditions were disappointing and the greens were heavily sanded that day making putting very difficult. One and done.
Tatum Ridge Golf Links
Played On 03/07/2019Average Public Golf Course
Played Tatum Ridge on a beautiful sunny day with temp in the low 70's. I enjoyed the layout of the course (especially #9 and #13) but the condition left a lot to be desired. The tee boxes were a little beat up- some more than others. There were many bare spots in the fairways. The water comes into play on only a few holes. The greens were very nice and true and only a few of them had some rough spots. Blue tees played 6747 and white tees 6111. The course would be improved with an additional tee box in between. Didn't sample the food or drink. PLEASE TAKE NOTE and bring a range finder as it will significantly improve your course management.
Keney Park Golf Club
Played On 05/23/2018A Fun Golf Course To Play
I was fortunate to play Keney Park Golf Course twice during the month of May. The city of Hartford reportedly spent $6 million on the restoration. It has a challenging and interesting layout with many dog legs- both left and right. The greens are in excellent condition albeit running on the slow side, as one might expect from a public course. Same goes for the pace of play. Slow. Weekday greens fees were very reasonable at $58 including a cart. My senior friends paid $11 less for theirs. The course has a premium on keeping the ball in play in order to have a clear shot to the green. There is very little water that comes into play. There are many bunkers, however, that do. The greens are undulating and many have a false front. I would have given it another star if the greens were faster. The clubhouse restaurant was nicely renovated as well and the food was very good. Plenty of beer on tap as well. We played from the blue tees (6046 yards). Next time I want to play it from the gold tees (6449 yards).
10 & 19 at University Park Country Club
Played On 02/15/2018A Nice 27 Hole Golf Course
I played the 1-9 and 10-18 course 2 days ago and the 19-27 and 1-9 combo today. Overall the course is in very good shape. The layout is nice with some challenges ahead for any errant shots. The fairways are clean and green. The bunkers are strategically placed but are easy to hit out of. Many holes have large waste bunkers, also in fine condition. The greens are mostly in very fine shape with a few of them having been recently repaired/sodded. The greens, however nice they look, are slow, slow, slow! That takes away a star. There is some water but not much of it comes into play. All 3 nines have a different feel. If you play at 11:00 or later the greens fee is only $69 including the cart and the range balls. I think that’s a great value! I didn’t have time to stay for a drink after the round but I heard that the facilities are great (from a member). Speed up the greens and I’ll be back to play again!
Rosedale Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/08/2018The Course Has Character
The layout is challenging and some of the fairways are narrow. The expected amount of water hazards based on a typical Florida golf course design. It is in a gated community but is semi-private. $69 was a fair price to pay but I was charged extra for a bucket of range balls. The fairways were nice for the most part and greens were true but slow. We were warned about the speed of the greens by the starter but they were NOT as fast as he stated. A couple of the greens were recently sodded to repair damaged areas so the overall condition was a little disappointing. The pace of pay was slow and we constantly waited for the group in front of us to hit. The biggest negative was the absence of a food cart/snack cart. We should have at least been warned so as to buy food at the start or at the turn. I would still recommend the course with the above comments in mind.
Hi, thank you for the three stars. We appreciate your feedback regarding your experience on our course, and we hope that you'll come back again soon.
