Francis A. Gross Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2023Hot and humid
I had the day off and decided to pick up a hot deal tee time as a single. Paired with a threesome from Kansas (up for the Twins game). Teed off at 11am, 92 degrees and humid. Luckily the deal time included a cart! Course was very dry, just like every other property in the Twin Cites during this heat wave. The fairways, tees, and greens were in pretty good shape. Greens rolled true and fast for a public course. Pace of play was slow. Isn't it always? But I was not at work, so overall enjoyable.
Would recommend this course. It's pretty flat and if you spray your ball it stays in play for the most part.

It was a cold and wet spring day. For the time of year, and Minnesota's unpredictable climate, the course was in decent shape. Considering that most courses in the area are not open for the season yet, I was impressed. The greens were slow, but they rolled true and held approach shots. Would recommend this course for an early season option.

I always enjoy playing at Timber Creek. It is a nice course just a short drive from the city. The staff are always very welcoming and the course is usually in good shape. So I was surprised to find such a good deal on a pre-paid round for me and 3 of my cronies. It wasn't until the 4th hole that I figured out why we got the great deal. The maintenance crew were top-dressing the greens. Normally this isn't an issue for me, but the way they were doing it rubbed me the wrong way. They were spreading the sand on multiple greens before brushing it in! So there were several greens that we played that had a thick layer of sand on the surface! The greens that were brushed were fine, but going back and forth between sand and no sand made it difficult to putt consistently. I would still recommend this course to others as it is a nice course. I guess you get what you pay for.

Played On 02/28/2020Second time around
Our golf group came to the Tampa area from the frozen tundra. We had played the TPC several years ago and at that time was not impressed with the conditions of the course. We thought we'd give it another try. The TPC staff is top-notch and the pace of play was good. The greens were in good condition and the speed was acceptable. The tee boxes, and the tees at the practice range really showed how much play the course gets. I would recommend this course if you can get a discount rate, but at the normal rate there are better options in the area.
Monticello Country Club
Played On 04/20/2019Spring golf
Spring golf is always kind of iffy in Minnesota. Monticello Country Club was open and allowing gas carts on the course. I was pleasantly surprise about the shape of the course. If was fairly dry and the greens were rolling very fast. Pace of play was a little slow, but expected on one of the first "nice" days of the year. I would definitely give this course another try early next year.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 03/03/2018Canyon Course
We played the Canyon Course. Course was in great shape. Greens rolled true but difficult to read - mountain effect. No particularly difficult holes. Sprinkler heads were marked front/center/back but would have appreciated a yardage book or cart GPS.
Some very, very, long distances from green to next tee box. I would consider playing again the next time I visit Tucson!
