Ruth Park Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2018Quite possibly best 9-hole value in St. Louis
Hilly, but very walkable. cart use is just $8.
Zoysia fairways and tee boxes in excellent shape.
Course gets a LOT of play, and not everyone fixes their ball marks on greens (surprise). May have to fix a few ball marks to putt, but greens otherwise give an excellent roll. (2-tiered #5 green is especially challenging.)
Course’s stated pace-of-play standard is 2:15, which can understandably be a tad optimistic for the busiest times, like Sat. and Sun. mornings, but is otherwise easily accommodated.
No sand and little water, so even beginners can score decently, while blue tees’ 3000 yards and rolling terrain provide good challenge for the more experienced player.
the clubhouse is a little small, but has all the necessaries, including a more-than-adequate grill and snack bar, as well as club rentals.
Just over 5 min from Hwy 40 and I-170, destination is very accessible. Parking is plentiful.
Driving range is quite nice, though a bit short for bombers off the tee. $4, $7 and $10 buckets of balls (for 40, 70 or 100 balls, respectively) are best value in the area.
The staff are almost always friendly and generally willing to give some extra effort to be accommodating.
Given the comparatively low greens fees, this course is unquestionably an excellent value.
Stoneybrook Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2013Very nice course, and well worth the greens fees.
re: staff friendliness--I was told I was to be joined by a 2-some, which never showed up at the 1st tee. called the clubhouse and was told the 2-some checked in and started early. I hate playing solo, and believe the clubhouse staff really should have told me.
re: course conditions--a couple of sand-less sandtraps kept me from marking the course as pristine. the fairways and greens were nearly perfect.
first time on the course, so I played the whites. course is VERY fair, with few hidden gotchas to contend with. take advantage of their excellent GPS on the carts, and none of the gotchas need be hidden at all.
I really wanted to play the course again the next day, but they had a tournament going.
I repeatedly had to call golfnow.com when trying to book for this course. the course computer and golfnow.com were unable to communicate. I have no idea which party was "at fault" ... but golfnow.com's staff made every effort to be helpful.
on my next trip down this way, I will visit this course again ... and again ...
