Wailea Golf Club - Old Blue Course
Played On 06/25/2019Nice course, but...
Nice course and all but I expected more. The guy that checked out our golf cart and clubs seemed Ike he was having a bad day. We played at 2 pm and the golf cart girl said she was just about of everything. The bar doesn’t allow us to buy beers and play on the course with them.
So the course is nice, but the course amenities and all are just so-so. I must say, KAPALUA is better and that’s where I’ll return later this week.
Glen Ivy Golf Club
Played On 12/23/2018FABULOUS COURSE!
I’ve been playing golf in a 50 mile radius from glen ivy for years and this course always slipped past me. Well what a great course I’ve been missing out on all this time! The layout is awesome. The front 9 is nice and pleasant. The scenery is superb. With all of the trees displaying gorgeous fall colors, I thought I was playing somewhere in New England. The back 9 though is a kicker! It’s challenging but a lot of fun! The fairways I thought though were cut just a tad too short, but that is NOT a complaint I’m making, just a comment. The fairways were just as short and fast like a tight lawn on the putting green. My buddy and I love this course and we’ll be back! It’s 10x’s better than Eagle Glen or Dos Lagos. Those courses are boring compared to Glen Ivy. The bar and grill were great too and the staff was really friendly at the bar. I can’t wait to play again and bring my other two golf buddies with me. The only other course I’ve ever given 5 stars for everything was Kapalua in Maui. Glen Ivy also gets 5 stars from me.
Indian Hills Golf Club
Played On 09/22/2018Great time!
I love this course! The fairways this time though were hard as concrete in some places, but really it’s nothing to seriously complain about. But for the first time playing here all these years, I did really notice it. It’s always a fun fun course and the staff is outstanding.
I will be back again.
Jurupa Hills Country Club
Played On 06/01/2018Horrible time today
I don’t usually write bad reviews. This is one of my favorite golf courses. But in this particular day, my opinion is that the golf experience was terrible. There was a tournament, I get it thst golf sometimes. I love tournaments myself. Tournaments can be a drag IF THERE IS A SERIOUS LACKING OF A MARSHALL on the course. People in the tournament were literally jumping from one hole to another, just to join up with their buddies. For instance, I’m driving up to the tee box at #7. Suddenly another guy shows up and joins the already horribly slow bunch in the group of four ahead of me. He starts playing with them! By the time we get to hole 9, there’s now 6 in the group ahead of me. It took 3 hrs and 15 minutes just to play the front 9! Unacceptable. Where was the Marshall? I scoot around them near the pro shop to jump ahead on hole 10. Who’s in the tee box there, but 8 dudes all waiting to tee off!!!! Needless to say, we left the course. I woulda loved to have gotten a refund. There needs to be better course/play management when they hold a tournament. I guess I’ll be playing more st Los Serranos and Eagle Glen from now on. At least the marshalls there are really on the ball.
Total let down, but I’m willing to give Jurupa another chance. The staff is really nice all the other times I’ve been there. It should be noted that when I was in the pro shop, I witnessed a golfer call and complain to the staff about the same issues I had but it was a group pile up on hole #2.
As for this review, I’d have to say “no,” I can’t tecommend this course to a friend. Maybe I’ll chsnge my mind, but they seriously wasted my day here with such poor game-play mismanagement.
Hidden Valley Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2018Tough course!
Holy cow this is a tough course. If you’re not breaking st least 100, don’t waste your time here. While it’s beautiful as ever, the course is the toughest “mountain” course for 100 Miles! There is not one single level lie at this course. You will lose tons of balls. I like to have fun when golfing and I don’t take it that serious. But this course is really hard, even for good players. Because most jokes here are a gauntlet of punishment, It really makes it “not” fun. It’s not relaxing for a group of intermediate buddies golfing together when nearly every hole kicks your tail end. A challenging course is great fun but a down right difficult course just makes for an afternoon of lots of “bad” words being shouted out. Again, this course is for bogey and scratch golfers in my opinion. If you’re one of those, you might really like the course. But for most me, it’s more of a pain in the neck course. I find Dos Lagos and Eagle Glen to be more enjoyable course. This is just me and my review. Good luck.
Jurupa Hills Country Club
Played On 01/21/2018Another great round at Jurupa!
The course continues to get better and better. I don’t think I’ve seen putting greens in better shape anywhere else locally in a long time! The fairways looked terrific again as well. It wasn’t crowded when I went either. Not bad for a Sunday! Can’t wait to play here again maybe next week. I love this old retro course.
Cresta Verde Golf Club
Played On 01/19/2018Nice course but needs some TLC
Nice course and I’d play here again, but.....
Every single bunker has been totally “abandoned, neglected and forgotten” by the greens keeping staff. You can tell where bunkers used to be but are now barren wastelands of overgrowth. It’s obvious the course owners have given up on maintaining the bunkers and that really takes away from this course. The fairways are really narrow and are all but maybe 10% of them are completely surrounded by houses. I read that this is one of the oldest courses (80+) in the state, where the likes of Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnaz and Burt Lancaster used to play here decades ago. To me, this makes Cresta Verde a “classic” old school course. I can only imagine what it was like to golf here 60-80 years ago when there was nothing else out here but the old Norconian Club further west. This place is pretty nostalgic if you understand some of its rich history. The staff here is excellent and the putting greens were great. Most (not all) of the fairways are in good shape but the tee boxes are pretty much all thrashed, but still playable. I do recommend this course again because it’s not crowded. It is challenging with hills and narrow fairways at times. Saw several coyotes on the fairways which is good. The song-dogs destroy the “VC” (Varmint Cong” as Bill Murray’s character from Caddy Shack Called them) and keep the grass burrow free. The coyotes don’t interfere with play and it’s nice to see the wildlife. So for neglected bunkers and poor tee boxes, I can only give the course 2-stars overall. I’m excited however to play here again in a few weeks or so. I just hope they bring back the bunkers, because every great course has them! (Note to self: what’s a golf course without sand traps??? Come on Cresta Verde!!!! ;-)
Van Buren Golf Center
Played On 01/12/2018Poor executive course
First time playing here. The fairways and tee boxes are trashed. Many tee boxes don’t even have the white markers to play off of. Tons of mud and ruts in the fairways. The layout is horrible. It gets very confusing when you can’t figure out where hole 4 ends and hole 5 begins. They need more signage pointing players in the right direction. This entire course can be played with a 7 iron and a putter. I like executive courses for their really short play, but the conditions here were rock bottom. I know the owners also own Indian Hills and Jurupa Hills as well as Hidden Valley. This little course obviously is the “red headed step child” of the four. Sad. I won’t be back here. For $17.00, it’s totally not worth it. The only good thing was the driving range.
Jurupa Hills Country Club
Played On 01/07/2018Excellent round!
The course conditions were fantastic as the putting greens were in superb condition! I’m loving the course more and more. It’s one of my local top three favorites now!
Dos Lagos Golf Course
Played On 01/01/2018Dos Lagos does it again... piles on too many golfers
What’s with Dos Lagos and them always piling up way too many golfers near the same tee times? This causes me to golf elsewhere next time. 6 foursomes all lining up on hole #1 at the same time!!!! Come on Dos Lagos, get with it! This is poor golf course management!
Jurupa Hills Country Club
Played On 12/18/2017This course gets better and better.
Man I’m liking this course more and more! I rated this course a 4/5 stars and I wish GA would allow us to rate courses on a scale of 0-10. I’d give it a 7.5-8/10 instead. A higher scale would be more accurate. Last time I rated this course I gave it 2/5stars. It just keeps getting better and better. Between this course and Indian Hills, I’m stuck between which one is better. I was told both course are owned by the same people, but I don’t know if that’s verified. Another golfer told me that. I like them both. Indian hills was my favorite but I think Jurupa Hills has now surpassed Indian Hills. I’ve played Indian Hills about a dozen more times than Jurupa.
The staff at Jurupa is better when it come to the snack bar. However the pro staff in the pro shops are equally excellent. The scenery at Jurupa is better. Many more trees and WILD PIGS on the front 9, but they don’t bother me. I love them and wish I could hunt them for pork chops! Hey Jurupa Hills, if the pigs are a problem, all you have to do is get a “depredation permit” from the Ca Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife. They’re free. I’d be glad to take some off your hands with a bow, after the course closes at night!!! ;)
Anyway, this course is just a great course. I took my buddy here for the first time and I think this might be his favorite local course now! The fairways are groomed nicely and the greens are in excellent shape! I’m happy to see that today I didn’t encounter any unattended divots on the greens. It appears that golfers (including me) are policing themselves and repairing the divots on the greens! Jurupa Hills staff, thank you for a fabulous round of golf, even though I’m not that good. I will be back weekly, as I’m playing two rounds per week, in between that dreaded four letter word..... WORK!
El Prado Golf Courses - Chino Creek
Played On 12/12/2017Bait and switch for this course!
I reserved and put a deposit down for the Chino Creek course days in advance, but when I showed up they put me on the (in my opinion) poorly groomed “Butterfield” course. When I disputed it, the guy behind the counter said “Well i called you yesterday and told you that I’m putting you on Butterfield.” I almost lost my cool ...but didn’t. Instead, I told him that I didn’t know who he talked to, but it wasn’t me and I NEVER got a call from him nor anyone else at El Prado. I dislike Butterfield and specifically wanted Chino Creek, because I like Chino Creek! Instead of arguing with the guy at the counter while making a scene and because they apparently booked a lot of people onto Chino Creek during my RESERVED time (a Tuesday no less) I just begrudgingly took Butterfield. I had a friend with me that recently came back into golf after a lengthy medical battle. I didn’t want to argue about the course with the clerk at the counter and in front of my recovering golf buddy. After all, I took him here to have a great time outdoors and was looking forward to Chino Creek, as he’s never played here before. Instead we got Butterfield which was a total let down for both of us. I can see management’s point had I merely been just a “walk-on” customer and there was no other available tee time. But when I reserve and place a deposit for Chino Creek days in advance, I expect to get what I reserved.
I recently formed a weekly golfing group of four of us from work. Needless to say, El Prado is getting scratched off of our weekly list. Los Serranos Golf club, here we come from now on!
Thanks El Prado.
Creek/Oaks at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort
Played On 12/04/2017Nice course
This is a really nice course. It was in great shape and the pace was perfect. I can’t wait to play here again. Although the staff was a bit cranky and the bar staff was horrible. However the bar staff is for another review.
North at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/28/2017Good course, pace of play stunk.
This course was nice as far as scenery goes. It has a ton of potential, however the pace of play allowed by the Marshall was outrageous. The Marshall whom we saw twice came to tell us about a trio of retired guys all over the age of 90. Being 90 and still swinging clubs is awesome, but if they’re that slow, they need to allow others to play through. However the Marshall was weak and wasn’t trying to get any other group going at a faster pace. Then the Marshall told us about another group of guys that were celebrating a birthday, yet would take about 10 strokes each and for each hole. The Marshall said, “I could make them speed up if I wanted to, but those guys are ‘JUST HAVING FUN,”. Well what the heck???? My group and the group immediately ahead of us and two behind us all wanted some fun too. Sadly, the Marshall didn’t do his job and tell those golf jokers to hurry along or step aside for the others. The round of golf for us was 5 hrs and 14 minutes and this was on a Tuesday!!!!!
Come on Los Serrano’s staff! Stop packing in so many people at once and get your management act together please. Have your Marshall’s speed slower people along.
Other than that, the course was nice and I’d play again.... I guess..
Dos Lagos Golf Course
Played On 11/27/2017Excellent course!
First time playing here with friends. What a great golf course! The fairways and greens were in great shape. The greens are super fast though so don’t put too much “horse power” into your putts, or you might easily over do it. I will definately come back to this course soon!
Whispering Lakes Golf Course
Played On 11/19/2017A “fair” course
This course is just “fair.” I’m not bad mouthing it, I’m just stating that I believe it to be an “average” course. The fairways are wide while the greens were the best thing about this course. The putting greens are really taken care of. But there’s nothing really special about this “vanilla” of a course. It is loud at some holes due to the close freeway traffic noise adjacent to the course. This is an old course that could use a better facelift. I was told that the city of Ontario has really cleaned up the course by putting some money into it, namely some mobile home style office and pro shop. But it still needs more work. The old clubhouse was torn out years ago and that has really taken the course’s overall appearance down. The course itself is just too flat like a swap meet converted into a golf course. Even the greens are all pretty much flat. Where’s the challenge?
This is really a “cargo shorts, Tank top and flip-flop” (if it were allowed) kinda of course in my opinion. I could see them making the movie “Tin Cup 2” here with Keven Costner’s character living in a an old Ford Pinto in the parking lot. Would I recommend this course? Maybe. I thought the weekend price was way too high for what this course is. It’s not a course that’s very pleasing to the eye with neat scenery, layout and many trees etc... but in a pinch and when all other courses are packed with people.... sure, I’d say it’s better than nothing in that case.
Eagle Glen Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2017Nice course but slow pace.
This is a very challenging course. From what I understand, the high winds here are generally the norm. The elevation changes here are huge and that’s what makes it so fun. However the pace of play is terribly slow. The two guys ahead of my foursome were playing 2-3 balls each and for every single hole!! Talk about frustration! They were effectively making their 2-person duo game more like a 4-6 player group, depending on the hole they played. Seems like many golfers today have no etiquette and lack basic common courtesy. Where were the course Marshalls to tell players to speed it along? From what my buddies said, the slow pace at this course seems to be the norm. Aside from that, the course is beautiful and pricey at times.
El Prado Golf Courses - Chino Creek
Played On 10/10/2017Course keeps getting nicer
I’m liking this course more and more. The staff here is absolutely A+++. Very friendly and courteous. I played an additional 9-holes after my first round of golf and loved every second of it. The course layout is great and the recent aeration has made the greens better.
Paradise Knolls
Played On 10/09/2017Poorly run course.
This course seems to just stuff as many players as they possibly can into the same tee times and this practice of theirs seems to be getting worse. I reserved a tee time for a morning round on a Tuesday. I show up and there’s a huge pile up on hole #1. There’s also four foursomes lined up on deck. Plus, four people doing simulataneous practice swings together in the tee box. I see that hole #10 is wide open. I ask the guy in the office if I can start on the back-9 instead and he says, yes. So I go out to the back 9 and I’m waiting for a 5-some that just appeared out of nowhere. One person in that very same 5-some is walking, yet his four buddies are in carts! Seriously, what gives? When I get to the green of hole 10, a Marshall drives up and asks me if I just “jumped in” on the hole? I said that I was given permission from the guy at the cash register in the pro shop to start on the back-9. The Marshall starts using a cuss word that starts with the letter F and says he is so “ticked off” (to clean up his language), at how slow another foursome is on hole#12, blah blah blah... The marshal then tells me that I must join the group ahead of me because I’m slowing the pace down for everyone else? Excuse me? I ask him how in the world am I slowing it down when I’m a single player waiting for a foursome and a five some both directly ahead of me, all the while you (Marshall) stop me to have a talk? He then says, “well that’s golf.” He adds, “well, you should have made a tee time reservation.” I said, “I DID!” His meek reply was, “oh.” He just drove away angrily talking to himself, dropping another bad word that starts with the letter F. This is the third time now where I‘ve experienced these large pile-ups of people all teeing off at the same time, from this course. The Marshalls at this course are a joke and so is their online reservation system. It’s no wonder this place is closing to a future housing development in December (so they say). I tell you, INDIAN HILLS and JURUPA HILLS are sooooo much more organized and nicer courses, while located just up the street from this dump. Never again.
Paradise Knolls
Played On 09/26/2017Nice course
I had to play here just to say I did, especially since the course is slated for closure soon. A developer bought the course and it won’t last forever. The course was crowded and the fairways are really narrow. Several times, golfers crossed over into my fairway just to get their ball back within bounds for their hole. The course conditions were pretty well maintained and the staff was outstanding. I will for sure play here again because it’s a fun and easy course.
I have been playing at Prado since 2004 and I have never encountered negative "vibes" from any of the employees. Considering the price one pays to play at Prado compared to other courses, the conditions are very, very good. I'm sorry your negative experience shaded your opinion of El Prado.
