Grand Cypress Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 01/20/2014Great value for a Great Course!
I have played the New Course at Grand Cypress several times now and it is still one of my favorite courses in the Orlando area. It's wide open fairways and shared greens make it perfect for golfers of all skill levels. Make sure to make it through all 18 holes because coming up 18 really makes this St. Andrews replica/influenced design feel like you really are in the home of golf. Just a tip, make sure you know what color flag you're hitting to! Now get out there, trust me, it's worth it.
Celebration Golf Club
Played On 10/24/2013A one and done
I've played Celebration twice now and both times were fun, but both times I couldn't finish because of the slow pace of play. There is nothing that ruins a round for me like slow play and that definitely seems to be an issue at this course. Thus, it is definitely not a first choice for me. Also, there's better options for your money in the area. It's not one of my favorites, but like I said, worth trying once.
Wild Turkey Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2013Great value!
I have played at Crystal Springs twice now. There are multiple courses, all offering their own challenges and views. The Cascades was probably my favorite as far as the layout and variety of holes. The par 3 11th hole is my absolute favorite. Not only is it a spectacular view from the tee box, but the tee shot itself is not like many you'll have played before. You tee it up at the top of a cliff and hit down to the green 180 yds away. It's awesome!
Being up in the mountains, you're always sure to have a beautiful breeze in the summer. The course itself has some difficult undulations, but it's all part of it's charm. It's seclusion in the mountains makes for a peaceful, quiet and scenic round! Just go on Golf Now and you can get some great deals for an afternoon tee time there. We've played for $30 or less a person and it's more than worth it!
Hominy Hill Golf Course
Played On 05/01/2013Overrated, but worth a visit
Hominy Hill is often listed as one of the top 10 courses in NJ. While I haven't nearly scratched the surface of all the courses in Jersey, I've played at Hominy at least 10 times and each time, I wonder how it can get such high reviews. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful course and worth playing, but I wouldn't call it a top ten.
My one problem with the course is how expensive it is for a county course. Even for players with a county card, it is over $40! Without a county card, you're really starting to pay more than a round here should be worth. There are many other courses that are almost just as nice that you can play for half the price! Plus, if you're looking for a club with a nice practice range and 19th hole, this is definitely not the place. The range is small and not in the best shape and the "19th hole" mine as well not exist.
Beyond those few issues I have, it really is pretty, but also challenging. There are some water carries that can be quite the challenge, especially on the par 3 11th. There are also many dog legs that force you to get pretty strategic and there are many multiple level greens. It's definitely a test, but an interesting and fun one. It is always in excellent condition, except for the bunkers, of which most are filled with rocky, dark sand you shouldn't find on a golf course.
If you can play for $50 or under, it is more than worth it! Also, it's not a difficult walk at all so that can cut your cost. Every time I've played, I've walked, and more than once carrying my bag.
