Verrado Golf Club - Victory Course
Played On 03/31/2018Nice Saturday
First time playing here after previously playing at the Founder's Course. This course is very nice and the views are stunning. Was surprised that the Saturday before Easter was "slow". We had a 1pm tee time and didn't see anyone else the entire afternoon. Nice surprise for such a nice course at the end of March in Phoenix. Only complaint is the greens were quite firm and seemed a little dry for pre-summer in Phoenix. The fairways and tee boxes are in perfect condition and the sand is actually fluffy.
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 03/18/2018Awesome Condition
The Raven didn't disappoint. The course is still in awesome condition and one of the best courses within the downtown Phoenix area.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 03/17/2018Palm Valley Golf Club - North/South
Played On 03/16/2018Good Value
Pace of play was slow on the front 9. The Marshall said we were behind the golf school but they stopped after 9 holes and the pace of play was better on the back 9.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 03/11/20185-Star Course. Horrible Pace of Play
Course is in great condition but the pace of play was horrible. Had a noon tee time and had to wait for nearly every shot on the front nine (we watched the group in front of us tee off on 6/9 holes). We saw the Marshall 3 times on the front nine but the pace of play didn't improve, maybe he was just putting miles on the cart... If you're going to play here then book an early tee time.
Arizona Golf Resort
Played On 03/10/2018Resort?
This might have been a "resort" in the 70s or 80s but today it's not much better than a city course. The tee boxes and greens are nice, but the fairways and rough were in poor condition. One surprise was that the bunkers actually had fluffy sand which is better than most courses in Phoenix.
Aguila Golf Course
Played On 03/09/2018OK City Course
I played here 5 weeks ago and the course is in the same condition. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens would be rated at 4-5 stars but the rough and bunkers would only be rated at 1-2 stars. It was a 4.5 hour round so pace of play was OK although I'm not a fan of allowing people to walk while others pay for a cart and wait behind the walking groups.
Coldwater Golf Club
Played On 02/18/2018Average Course, Decent Rates
Coldwater is a average course with reasonable rates in the winter. Fairways and greens were in good/great shape although the tee boxes needed some work (re-seeding in process on quite a few tee boxes). Holes 1, 9, and 18 are in great shape (rough has winter grass), it's too bad the other holes aren't in that good of shape.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 02/17/2018PHX Golfers: Don't Play Here
I'm not one to write negative reviews, but this course was extremely underwhelming. I'm surprised this course has 4/5 stars overall. Three major issues (also common to other reviews):
1. Starting time: Started 25 min late on a 12:30pm tee time (actually quite lucky based on previous reviews).
2. Pace of Play VERY slow on the front 9 which is much more difficult than the back 9. 2:45 hr on the front, 2:00 hr on the back, 4:45 hr total.
3. Poor course conditions (Quite bad considering other similarly priced courses in PHX)
- Note: There is a distinct difference between "dormant" rough (some PHX courses) and dead rough (i.e. dirt) at Johnson Ranch.
The front 9 has memorable scenery although that doesn't compensate for the unbearably slow play and poor course conditions.
If you have to drive more than 10 min to Johnson Ranch then it's not worth it. A comparably priced course anywhere in Phoenix will likely be better than what you'll find here.
Palm Valley Golf Club - North/South
Played On 02/11/2018Great Condition
Course is in great shape and the pace of play was excellent. Finished the round in under 4 hours. Palm Valley is a great deal in winter/spring if you can get it for under $50.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 02/10/2018Great Course
Las Sendas is one of the best courses in Phoenix. The course is in great condition and is quite challenging.
Aguila Golf Course
Played On 02/02/2018One of the Better PHX City Courses
Aguila is one of the more challenging city courses and the fairways and greens were in decent shape. The bunkers are in disrepair and under renovation based on signage in the carts with a free drop during play. For $30-40 it's one of the better options for winter golf in Phoenix. If it wasn't a city course I'd give is a 3/5.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 01/27/2018Short but Challenging
This is a short(er) course but definitely challenging. Accuracy off the tee is more important than distance at Coyote Lakes. Fairways and greens were in good shape.
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 01/13/2018Great Condition
Course is in great shape. Definitely worth the winter rates.
