Hickory Ridge Public Golf Center
Played On 07/08/2020Best Value and best layout in southern Illinois
If you have never played Hickory Ridge you are really missing out.
Price
For the money this is the absolute best value in southern Illinois and southern Indiana. Hot Deal for 18 holes with a cart at Hickory Ridge was $30 after taxes. Incredible price. Even their normal price at the course is very very good for what your getting. If you were blindfolded and took to the first tee and didn’t know where you were at and was told to play 18 holes and at the end was told to tell what you thought the greens fee would cost for this course it would easily be $70 to $90. If I was on vacation in Panama City Beach I would pay $80 to $100 greens fee for this course.
Conditions
Fairways are nice. Only a few spots in the fairways that are having turf problems. But they are small areas and hardly even noticeable.
Tee boxes are very nice. Giant tee boxes and they are in excellent shape and they are level.
Greens
Good shape have some small areas on the edges that are giving them problems but they are small areas and not really ever affecting any putts. Speed of the greens are about middle of the road, they are not fast and they are not slow. I prefer a touch faster green speed but they were ok. They are soft and approach shots hold very easily.
Layout
This is my favorite aspect of Hickory Ridge. This is a tough golf course and a shot makers golf course. It’s got some very tricky holes and rewards accuracy off the tee but don’t be fooled into thinking you can hit driver all day. It’s tight and the layout forces you into hitting some hybrids and irons off some of the tee boxes but even doing that there is many times there is hardly any room for error. If you have good long iron game and wedge game you will love this course.
My handicap is a 3
Cambridge Golf Club
Played On 09/12/2018Great layout but slowest greens in the Tri state area.
Layout is great and fairways are nice. Overall course is not mowed short enough ever. Greens are the slowest in the tristate area but in good shape. Only two problems, pace of play is always super slow as they just pile people on the first tee. And after talking to a few members today they said it’s always like that. Members said they don’t make people have tee times they just let them show up and take off. Second is the bunkers are unbelievably awful condition. It is a nice course though and it’s a tough test especially from the back.
Baytowne at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
Played On 08/30/2018Absolutely Amazing
The layout is second to none and course is beautiful. Greens are small and you must make precise iron shots but the greens roll like a dream. This was our first time playing Baytowne and will now be one of our yearly courses.
Raven at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
Played On 08/29/2018Robert Trent Jones classic and beautiful design WOW
After playing every course in PCB / Destin we hadn’t played any of the Sandestin courses so The Raven was our first. The layout is amazing and course conditions were second to none even to those that we paid over $130 to play. Great course and now for sure will be on our list every year. Thanks to GolfNow for the amazing Hot Tee Time price we have now found a classic layout we will always play.
